Aesthetics vs Practicality

I have a mold for the "wind and the clouds" legendary slingshot, which with the minus interval seems to be the most practical weapon for around its level. But i cant help but feel i would sacrifice the obviously superior stats and -interval, just to use a cool looking bow. Am i the only archer that feels this way? Because personally i prefer bows over crossbows, and dislike slingshots a lot due to the way they look. So basically, do you think that it is worth the loss of stats, just for the look of a awesome glowing bow b:surrender

Just use what you like... That's what I always do... It's not like you'll see THAT much difference being an archer of that lvl... By the time your weapon will start to matter more there will already be a large selection of each type to choose from... b:victory

    ... Is this a troll?

This "dilemma" has been around for... forever? It was already old when I got my Archer to 69 and that was ages ago.

Use Wind and the Clouds, it has vastly superior DPS.

The -int stat on the slingshot makes little difference, the fact it does alot less dmg than the equvalent tt crossbow makes a lot of difference. So if u want to do more dmg use the crossbow.

Me, i used the wind and clouds on my archer, it was a fun weapon.

    practical =/= optimal

One could argue that any weapon you can use at least most of your skills with around your level is practical. Use what you want. If you take the game seriously and only want to use the optimal weapon, this question wouldn't even come up. It seems some posters fail to realize this...

Well... ignoring the other two posts because I can, and they are trolling, I'll answer this.

I had a TT70 Crossbow, don't remember which. I had a Wind and the Clouds. I also had a Unicorn. Wind and Clouds hit really fast, it did more damage over time than the other two. Unicorn had good accuracy buff, and the crossbow could oneshot some mobs for grinding or whatever.

Basically, I preferred Unicorn. I looked cool, I could use it on my Sin, mine came out 2 sockets, and all around, it was a pretty darn good bow. It refined to +4 for me pretty easily (back then), so even compared to my xbow, it did more damage with a single shot than the xbow. Damage over time, it was about even or slightly ahead of the Wind and Clouds, but only from the refine.

If you can get either at the same refine, and don't want both, then I don't know what to tell you. I see archers in that level range with either, and don't think they're fail. I just had all three weapon types so I could use up massive heaps of old ammo I had accumulated (never sell ammo), and cause I wanted to make more of the later on Xbox.

Currently using heaven shatterer, which I'm debating on changing for R8 bow when I hit 100. I may go for a Nirvana bow, they look just fantastic, can get advanced purge, +range, and -interval, and I'd take one with any combination of those stats. R9 is too expensive, R8 doesn't have purge.

If you're actually going to quest/grind or want the best DPS for your level, W&C is the best. I thought this was hashed out in '08. At level, if you're statted correctly, mobs shouldn't even hit you.

If you have a -int tome, Wraithgate TM cape, and blood moon wrists, yeah W&C makes a bit more of a dent than Unicorn.

But the difference... Isn't that big.

Even without interval W&C is far better than Unicorn if you're grinding. Solarslayer is even better than Unicorn.

If all you're going to do is buy heads, it doesn't matter.

I skipped W&Cs because the idea of slingshots reminds me more of Dennis the Menace than an archer. There's nothing wrong with prioritizing the enjoyment of your character above numerical stats. Don't worry too much about it though, the good end game weapons are all bows.

    Unicorn: 4,346 damage/second
Wind and the Clouds: 4,819 damage/second

So W&C here does 473 more damage/second, or ~11% more.

Unicorn does have a bit more DPH, but not enough to make a real difference: even if you land maximum damage and crit, it won't even count for half a hit.

Nah I felt the same way when I sharded my TT90. The chest had 2 Perfect Garnets, but all the other pieces were flawless citrines or aroundabouts that tier. So i resharded all the gear for immac garnets to get the full red glow and take advantage of pdef. Partially for the pdef, but mostly so my gear didnt have different auras....

Big mistake, didn't realise how long it would take to get money for the tt99 gold and now im stuck with really low hp for a 101 barb.

    13.5k fully buffed :\

Saddens me, I see barbs around my level and just under, with gear similar to mine but sharded for hp.. and what do they get? around 16k? dafuq, i made a big mistake b:sweat

My barb broke into the 20k range around level 90. Then at level 92, I restated for a pure Str axe -int build. At 95, I've got 460 or so Str, and 16k HP. Being demon, I can zerk crit up to 80k on mobs in BH79/89, my MDef is higher than my Sin's, and I can switch to a different axe for extra Pdef (at the cost of losing Zerk axe damage, oh well). Since I share my gear between Barb and BM, my Barb will be getting the G15 Nirvana axes I'm planning on making soon, aiming for SS or GoF.

I like Slingshots. I still have my W&C, resharded it for metal damage. Hardly use it anymore though. D:

I personally dislike dual blades/swords. So I prefer using a single blade/sword over duals, even if it means less damage ^^

I went with Unicorn in the 70s because I love bows. I even went so far as to craft the TT80 gold bow just so that I could keep using a bow.

I've seen Archers who have 1st cast Nirvana bow (TT version) at like +3~4 even though they could have spent the money on higher refined r8 instead to be more useful. I can get where they were going with it.
