Ideal water pet build?

I know there's not a lot to do in the water besides Dragon Temple, but let's talk theory here. If you raised a turtle up from level 5 to make the ultimate water pet, what kind of skills would you use?

I'm assuming Sandblow is better than Bash because you're facing all water enemies. What else would you use?

I tamed a plumpfish way back when I actually had quests to do under water. Currently, he's stuck at level 84 because I can't be bothered to level him.

If I had to though...I would probably just use Bash, for a couple reasons. One: monsters typically have less physical defense than magic defense, so the damage between the two wouldn't be terribly different. Two: increased defense monsters have 2x their normal physical defense, while increased magic resistance monsters have 10x their normal magic defense. Three: Venos have a physical defense debuff in ironwood scarab.

It would make sense to use an elemental "bash"-rather than bash itself-against physical immune monsters, but you won't find many (if any) of those under water.

I'd go for Bash (same reasons as stated above), Sandblow (like you stated), Howl (magic debuff) and then either something like Tough (for water bosses, though very few), Flesh Ream or Roar.

Well, basically the usual set up.

With the Bone Dragon pet; people still think of raising a water pet? -lol Learn from those of us that have been screwed for investing in the more usable land pets.

I honestly doubt that PWE will add a super water pet to the game any time in the future. Having to go underwater to do anything these days is so rare that water pets are pretty much a non-factor. I never even bothered leveling mine past 84.

I try to avoid using water pets as possible. Instead I send a semi tanky plumfish to the boss and swim straight back up and quickly summon my herc or nix; depending on location. But if you want a tanky water pet i'ld suggest getting the buffs similar to the herc (if thats possible) because when i tried to tank using the strongest water pet and a turtle, it kept dying.

You can try using both skills if you want and include def buffs and reflect, if you can go through all that trouble...

TreasureX boss is a PITA to tank with a plumpfish. The dragon templar is also pretty much out of range of a plump.

So there are a couple of reasons to go for a water tank - pretty sure a turtle could do them. (An overlevel plumpfish probably can)

I wasn't able to pet-tank Dragon Templar at level with a near-level turtle (forget what the level difference was, wouldn't have been huge.) I also couldn't pet tank TreasureX boss the one time I tried, but then I was underlevel. Might be able to do it now the turtle is 98 and I'm 99.

I don't have stats for plumpfish and turtles at the same level on the wiki yet, so it's hard to compare them.
