Gearing and Refining

Hai, lvl 53 *wizard in training* here.
Just wondering when is a logical time to start socketing and refining my gear in general. At lower levels I was levelling enough to not commit to any weapon or armour piece for too long as something better was only another level away. Levelling speed is slowing down atm, so just wondering what level range should I bother refining and seeking out nice gear, when it would be most worthwhile.
Id rather not waste too much money ya know.

Depends on how fast you are levelling atm but its pretty common to start doing so at 60/70 when the TT (twilight temple) gear starts being available to you. normaly you would be using that gear for about 10 levels. the same applies if you rather than TT gear decide to get Legendary gear or random awesome 3* (personaly i prefer the TT gear in almost all cases)0

arcane tt armor is **** till 90
keep an eye on AH for 2/3* with good stats and some nice molds.
if you get lucky you will find some pieces already refined for reasonable prices
for weapons, tt is good, you might find some good molds too.
socketing... i guess/hope you mean sharding: adding shards to sockets and not adding sockets to equipment. again, check AH for gear that's already sharded, usually it's cheaper that sharding by yourself. I think that flawless are ok for 80s, since you will start doing fc, till then maybe average would do. depends on your build, budget and in the end, how squishy you are in instances.
o'malleys blessing could help to boost your defenses and you can always switch to jones.you only purge once #yopo0 -
I would + 1 your tt60 magic sword and do no more than +2 your tt70 wand lvl 70 mold sword. As for gear, people have a bad habit of socketing and refining gear at that level and then selling it for cheap. take 5 extra minutes every time you play and check AH for gear a few levels ahead of you. using this method, i hardly ever socketed or refined any of my gear because of a few extra minutes.0

Yeah PotatoHead, I meant sharding when I said socketing, *facepalm*.
I have my current gear of my level sharded with common or greater hp stones on my pure int build just so I dont get ***** AOE farming. I'll wait for tt and into the 70's gear so and check AH for some decent bargains. For weapons I've just been manufacturing whatever equip of my level and getting a 2** or better instead of hunting down molds. I'm levelling at roughly a level a day so I'll just keep at it.
Thanks for your help guys, informative responses!0 -
Some of the TT70 arcane is good.
The only time I ever looked for 3* purple armor is if I wanted more PDef, then I'd try and find something with 5 MDef resistances and 1, 2, or even 3 + Pdef addons on the armor. 3 Is rare, but you can at least fine one or two from time to time.
TT80 was useless, but T90 green is good armor according to my faction mates.101 Sage Sin*/Archer
100 Demon BM*/Barb
96 Demon Cleric/Sage Seeker
95 Demon Wiz/
94 Sage Veno
85 Psy/80 Mystic
And a handful of other alts, all 79 and under.

Also would consider your financial budget and your aims in game.
To be honest, my first toon was a cleric, and she got to 75 on NPC gears, quest rewards and drops from monsters. Her ring was attendance ring and yeah.... She had no problem healing or handling instances and keeping squads alive.
If you are going to FF, then I say that you should start saving and getting TT80 for your wizard for FF. Wizards are nasty DDs in FF, sooooo may the force be with you!
Otherwise, if you're playing this for your own fun, the other posters have brought up good points for your consideration.Whether you think you can or you can't, either way you're right. -Henry Ford0 -
Shards - I'd say use up the shards you get from quests. I saved mine up, and found them to be basically worthless. Far better to use them and get what advantage you can.0
