Here is another side of the coin, as well...
Powerlevelers, quit outleveling your gear and skills, or figuring you will only get gear once you reach 100. Showing up to 9x squads in 3x-4x gears non-refined (come on, +2 or +3 is basically free, at least have that) is a large part of why people feel the need to "require" weapon links in the first place. I'm not directing this to anybody in particular, but we all know who they are, or have seen it at least once.
If you're gonna be a plevel noob, figure out a way to do it for yourself, a way that doesn't disrespect other players by making them carry you and babysit you.
Also, good players and long-timers: stop condoning and coddling the type of players who are ruining the game. I understand making money off them, really I do. But to be fair, that is what "selling out" means. It means abandoning one's principles by directly or indirectly supporting activities which are a conflict of your original interests, just to turn a profit.0 -

You're probably right for some part, but that is not the main reason imo. Like you say, it's free to get to +3 (especially with bh 100 giving mirages from time to time), but most wc now is 5 aps and +10 weap. That's not just to filter the undergeared idiots... Most do it to get the fastest possible squad, because they don't want to waste 1~2min extra in for instance nirvana or bh. Most players are really affraid to "waste time playing a game".
A wc recently on sanc : lf more 5.0 for bh seat ! let's break the world record !!!
I wonder if he even understands that, if he really wanted to break the record, he should wc for charger orbs and not some aps.SolomonSmash - Heavens Tear wrote: »If you're gonna be a plevel noob, figure out a way to do it for yourself, a way that doesn't disrespect other players by making them carry you and babysit you.
b:laugh Yesterday in bh59, there was a lvl100 (sin) helping us (his gf/wife/friend was in squad) cause we couldn't find a healer. He actually managed to die on drake... which was ofc my fault cause I didn't wait till he was ready and pulled to soon.SolomonSmash - Heavens Tear wrote: »Also, good players and long-timers: stop condoning and coddling the type of players who are ruining the game. And meh, I gotta agree with Escorian here. Imo you either have the time, or you just don't level. But that's coming from someone who started playing this game early. I go by the mentality of working for your stuff. Not just flat out charging zen and buying everything you want. But that's whole another topic...
I meant having 14 hours to play the game IN GENERAL. I've been in squads that could clear an FC in 20 minutes if they wanted to, but everyone always has something going on, whether it's a DC to a DD or an afk to the main tank. Being as I, as do most people these days, run with friends, you don't normally find someone to replace them unless they've been gone for a long, long time.
You can't expect everything to be perfect when you go onto an FC run, which is why if I don't have the time to sit through all that, FC rooms are perfectly fine for me, as are some other people. Also, I started either right before or right after (can't remember cus I was like WTF are these things?) genies came in. Don't hate on people who just move with the time, there's no shame in leveling alts if you've already leveled the "old fashioned" way.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I personally giggle whenever I notice that the same person has been asking for a 5 aps +10 person in the WC for the past 30 minutes. In fact, the fastest Nirvana that I recall being in consisted of mostly 4-5 aps folk with random refines plus a crappy tigerform barb. The barb was there only because he was the one making the squad. He did end up on my BL for that, though.b:laugh Yesterday in bh59, there was a lvl100 (sin) helping us (his gf/wife/friend was in squad) cause we couldn't find a healer. Drake? That's not even funny. If it was, say, Ofotis and he died during the pull from the pit, that might have been understandable.
Personally, I prefer to respond to WCs with a plain "sin here". The only exception is delta, where I've found that it's really hard getting a squad unless I point out that I'm sage. In fact I've been told a few times that the only reason I got in was because I was sage. I haven't been asked for a weapon link more than a few times and those instances were rather understandable: One was a WC looking for DDs for a BH or so and the other was a Nirvana looking for a sin.
As far as I'm concerned, there's a pretty big difference between screening 10+ volunteers via weapon link and specifically denying anyone below a certain gear point.
And of course, the whole thing has created a situation where there's plenty of sins with 5k HP and 5aps +10 running around.I am Olba. Not Ol, not Baze nor Blaze. And even less would I go by Olblaze. Please, take a second to read a person's username.

Meh I'm too lazy to really reply to that. Just thought that's funny.
I'm just sad for people who powerlevel to 100+ without playing the actual game. None of all the 'pros' I know pushed towards high levels. They all had their fair share of fails, crazy squads and random squads.
I think PWI just geared the wrong way. Making everything fast and easy to achieve. Sadly the majority goes by it. The real fun in playing in game used to be squading up and achieving things. But meh... I won't rant now.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Originally, the game would have been a massive grind fest, just like most Asian MMORPGs.
However, the customer base on the west is different: We don't like the part where we're expected to play 10 hours a day for the next 3 years. That's where the F2P scheme comes in: it allows you to speed up the process a bit. However, with PWI, that thing went to hell: They quickly noticed that the game had a playerbase which was more than willing to spend more than the casual 20$. So, instead of keeping it as it was, which would've extended the lifespan of the game well beyond the game engine, they added more and more things to the Boutique to test just how far they could take it: the packs is pretty much the peak of this.
But then again, it's a bit tough for me to care either way. I don't PvP nor TW so R9 doesn't affect me in the least. I'm also an F2P merchant so the more ridiculous the sales get, the more profit I make. I'm just around to see the end of the game now that I've gone beyond the point of being self-sufficient.I am Olba. Not Ol, not Baze nor Blaze. And even less would I go by Olblaze. I know what you're saying. But crying over the old times won't bring them back, and if some people aren't able to see that, they should find another game to play.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

People assume because they ask for weapon link that they screen you for not being +10 or whatever. There are many reasons they may not invite; such as prior knowledge of your failness, position already filled, etc. I like the weapon link idea because there are many that let others do the work for them in this game. IDC what people think of me for it; someone with a weapon for Lv60 just shouldn't be in a L100+ squad. -Let the mooch bags rage.Be kind: Help the GMs to depopulate the servers.0

Asking for a weapon link is to me a sign of a lack of confident that you suck at running an FF as individual within a squad.
If you think an FF squad requires uber gear at level 95+, something is very wrong with you and your skills.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

1) dont pay for ff squads
2) FF with your faction/friends. it is safe and efficient because everyone already know each other and know how to play with one another.
3) if you dont have friends or factions. make ur own squad and do whatever you want. honestly if you are 90+ you can get a good ff squad in 2 world chats or 1 from my experience anyways.
but then again i already have my faction/friends filled in my squad first before i world chat so... for any squads not just ff only for my alts. but finding low lvl(74 and below) pheonix valley squad i gota say it is the hardest thing. can take up to 1 hour and squad isnt filled =.='0 -
I don't buy FC at all. If you don't have the time to run FC, then you don't have time to play.
I do ask for weapon links on certain classes, depending on the character I'm playing. This is so I know how the tank is/highest DDer. If they're asking for a link for uberness for any other reason it's a fail squad.
Why are ppl calling FC: FFC/FCC/FF? It's Frostcovered City...FC!! Might as well call it FDIC for the banking membership of those who pay for FC. b:laughlvl101 Legit archer...not 1 hyper used or multi-FC0 -
Im not looking forward to level 100 since I'll get trolled for not knowing all the instances since I've never reached 100 before,it's exciting but scary0

FC=Frostcovered City
FF=Forgotten Frostlands
FCC= Frost Covered City because they are thinking of it with a space in the name.

Seeing world chats asking people to pay for FC at lvl 80+ took me aback when I made a toon on LC server to check it out. Had never seen this on HT, and I couldn't understand if it was due to a) laziness, b) greed, or c) little of this, little of that.
Guess the saving time aspect makes sense. A twisted "why do you even bother logging on" kind of sense, and "what the hell happened to even the smallest sense of community" kind of sense.

Wow this game has gotten so money grubbing its pathdic. I remember when ppl went on fcc runs for the fun of it. Its so sad how you cant even go into a free instance anymore without paying for it. And anyone who pays for an fcc run is completely stupid in my book. I think it should be bannable to charge for a free instance. Its not right anyway you look at it. This game has turned into s*it now that everyone seems to be following pwi's money grubbing ways. That will be pwi's downfall, and I am going to laugh my *** off when pwi shuts down. The world is in a depression and once the worlds economy crashes so will this game. And trust me this will happen and it will happen soon.0

why is it that the person normally asking others to link their weapon for nirvana/casters w/e is normally the the one with the worst weapon out of the group0

Have met people like that. One of the fastest Nirvana squads I was in consisted of 4-5 aps BMs and Sins with a crappy tigerform axe barb for a squad leader. There are still ppl that prefer me to come on crappy tigerform hammer barb, or even fail cleric (b:surrender I fail as cleric, I always forget I need mp to anything), rather then looking for some other "high aps DD".0
