glacial vs eldergoth - confused :P

another noobish question from me :P
im reading that many ppl using eldergoth for soloing bosses... for me its obviously best choice to use pet with best def and HP, which is glacial...
what is the reason of using range pets for bosses insted of tanks...

    Often the range attack is less powerful than the melee attack of a boss, and it is always less frequent, giving you more time to heal between attacks.

    The down side is that when range tanking, pets don't use skills, so generate less aggro.

    Ranged pets are also good for pulling.
