game wont install

im going to keep this short, sweet, and to the point

got a new comp decided to install pwi onto it

the game downloads fine but when it gets to the point where the game needs to install

the downloader closes and notepad opens and here is exactly what it says word for word

open=Install.exe
icon=icon.ico


nothing happens after this i have no idea what is going on suggestions are very welcomed i would like to get back to playing if possible

my comp has all the latest drives, software, etc and this comp is way more than able to play this game

    I figure you downloaded manually? If so, you have a hidden install launcher link in one of those files. Same thing happened to me, I was only getting note pads of meaningless words. So being a not so computer-smart person, I just started clicking files that didn't look like notes and found the install launcher. I really

    i am getting the same problem

    i have my main rig updated but my one labtop is not working
    i tryed manuly patching and no dice so i when to uninstall and clean booted with dx 11 keep getting it to run the intinal install then it launches a notpad

    and stops there anyone else getting this problme or ideas past this... i can play on my other comp but i would like to u have this computer up and working when i am on the go

    <_< Sounds like a scripting error in the new download, it's trying to run that "notepad" file to auto install, but something's opening the file in read mode instead. Odd.

    This happened to me during my download. Exit out of it, go to your PWI installer destination folder and find the "install" file. Selecting this will begin the installation.

    the file that works is the "install" file it gets moved to your C drive and dosen't end up where it should be when it downloads. the file size is 1183k and considered a application file.

    I now have it at least patching but the game dowlond is version 515 and we are now at 615 so good job pwi .... i will keep you all posted and if you have more trubble please let me know i will try to solve it for you

    Check this directory for the install application: C:\Users\(YOUR USER NAME)\Desktop\PWI_Descent_Installer

    thanks everyone for helping me to figure it out


    i had to manually go into the c: drive and find the install application and run after that the game installed nicely



    if any gm sees this ( i doubt it) but check the downloader code it seems to me that this is a bug and once the download is finished the game wont auto run the install program and like jeremied said its turning the auto run file into read only


    which is strange to anyone that runs into this issue look at the above post that is the exact steps needed to rectify this problem

    it didnt get moved to my C drive. im looking in it and not even the installer file is found....

    I started installing the new update to Perfect world , and it is taking forever to install
    the little yellow line has barely moved and it seems like it is still working away at transfering files etc.. what can I do? signed frustrated and desperate.b:cry

    I downloaded the game installed it my os is a windows 7 but my problem is that i need a DirectX 9.0c to play the game is there a way to make it compatiable?

    ok i did alll this stuff u guys said and i still get Failed to to create C:\Perfect World Entertainment\Perfect World International\element\Shaders\Textures\some chinese letters. What am i doing wrong T.Tb:sadb:cryb:surrender

    i am havein trouble, 5 days ago i was logged on playin. my internet went out from the solar flar. i went to log on and my chars where invisable, so i uninstalled and reinstalled. just befor the end of verify files, i got and error that read cant install. it gave me the patcher Descent installer but it wont launch. iv tryed manuel patching and it still wont work. Now it wont uninstall or reinstall. i cant get it to do anything. . . . please someone help.

    Thanks for taking the time to answer OP's question, this helped me out alot! I though i had done something wrong in the settings xD If only if i had read this sooner... I must have deleted pw 3 times and reinstalled it by leaving my comp on all night/allday :/

    this is a highly common mistake but very to fix, one the first download and finished and the not pad opens this is what you do.
    first of you should have a folder named 'PWI_v61_Installer' if not it should be very similar. click onto that folder and find and select the file which says 'Install.exe' the first time you press this it may come up with the download which has just finished, but click the 'cancel' button and they press the 'Install.exe' again, this should now bring up a new window which has the percentage of the download and a bar which says installing and should also have a variety of pictures behind changing.

    I personally did this solution less than a hour ago and it worked great... When the notepad screen comes up with [auto run] and the other letters, close that screen out.
    1. Click the Start button
    2.Type in the search box "install" without the parenthesis of course.
    3. On Windows 7 wait for it to load the results and it will show a elf head next to the word install, click this to start the install process.
    4 Your done install will now complete and update and your free to play!

    Do yourself a favor and download a different game, this one is not worth investing time in, as its on its way out and the customer service is horrible.

    The game says that I have it installed but wont work, all I get is the same notice about player security

    that's just a notice, close it and select your character, or create one.
