Return of the Wizard?

Is it just me, or does it seem like there are a lot more wizards around lately? My main is a wizzy, which I've been playing going on three years and for a good part of it I've been somewhat of a rarity. Sure, I have a cleric, barb, seeker, etc. but my wizzy was my first and is my favorite. Now I'm starting to see wizzies everywhere. It actually seems odd to see someone else with the three orbiting shields. Now I'm getting into random squads where there are not only two, but even three mages instead of me being the only one. I guess maybe all those wizards that re-rolled sins are tired of easy-mode (yes, I have a sage sin too, so I know it's easy-mode) and have farmed enough high-end gear to return to the forgotten DDing class.

It could due to the fact that since the new expansion is coming out soon, and the wizzies are getting some VERY NICE skills, that people are starting to see more value in having them, and so are trying to roll one.

Just took me a long time to get to playing the class I originally planned to.

Plus with people selling FC any nab can level a Wizard now, with enough cash. Oh, and R9 too, cheap R9 = Powerful Wizards again.

I'm levelling without paying tho, cos I don't suck b:cool
I've quit excluding TW for my faction. But I still hang around to help out those who still enjoy the game under PWEs horrific handling and to have fun in the forums. b:cute

Maybe it's because I play one that I notice them more. Kinda like when you get a new car, then it seems like every other car you pass is the same model.

Since it cost less than R8 used to cost.

900 or so Gold isn't even slightly out of the leauge of a working person, especially if they recently quit smoking or drinking or something, theyll have that cash stacking up like no tomorrow.

Um... before the rep sales, Rank 8 cost 640m.

Rank 9 ring, starting from Rank 8, costs:
    36 Gold for reputation
    60 Gold for the MoGs
    160 Gold for the GSTs

Let's be fair and at least get the weapon as well:
    100 Gold for the MoGs
    425 Gold for the GSTs

    Total 781 Gold

    781 Gold = 640,000,000
    1 Gold = 640,000,000/781
    1 Gold = 819,462

... I'm pretty sure Gold was over 1m before the first reputation sale.

So tell me, which drugs are you on?

And please don't tell me getting just the ring counts as having Rank 9. It's just the beginning.

I was talking about back when gold was 400k, but w/e. You can do all the maths you like, Rank IX is cheap, C$wise at least. Way back when it was rediculous to aim for R8, It was annoying to obtain and expensive for the small increase in power over Nirvana, people would call you silly unless you were a Wizard or an Archer. Now R9 is excellent and available for everyone at the click of a few buttons and some spare cash.

Ok as you cansee temporatily I am lv 99, and I have never done a quest outside of getting myself to master of harmony. That is to say so far I have only lived in fc. I have more then a handfull of lv 100+ characters spread on multiple accounts. I can say for certainty that on my server wizards are become way more popular.

The reason for my existence is that my rank 9 sin sucks in tw and even crappy wizards seem to excel. I managed to farm enough with my sin to buy my wizard a complete set of rank 9 once she get to lv 101.

So it may be the rumor of new skills...or it may be more an more sins have finally reached the point where they are ready for make a tw alt. Some might settle for account stashing thier stuff to an archer, but some realize to really kick butt- we need a psy or wizzy.

Yes more people do seem to be rolling Wizzy's now (can only speak of DW server). Perhaps alot of the old players have tried every other class so their now trying to illusive and nigh on extinct Wizard.

You don't see too many new to game Wizzy's though (which can be a good thing) whilst many of the new wizzy's are learning to play their wizzy - if I see one more FC baby wiz that doesn't know what a shield is or what it's used for & attacks in the element the mob is I may start asking them to please do the wizzy community a favour & delete their wizzy's & uninstall the game.

I think you may be missing the bigger picture..

Sins before during 2x joined smaller squads to farm.. no competition. .just do your own thing.

Now that there are a flood of them and they are being rejected for normal ingame events. .they are going back to their old toons to do events and harvest BH rewards..

Nothin to do with enjoyin them.... just more profitable if you can do your BH in a timely manner then waiting for a free spot..

Nope.. greed is the factor Wizzy's are back.. not the enjoyment of playing them, even if you do.

    Cheers

I'm in favor the of Tw-character theory.

I'm a 105 sin, top-of-the-line dd, can solo anything, make a lot farming or merchanting. The assassin class is really great at just about everything, except TW. Some people are OK with that, but a lot of people aren't. Some sins are useful in TW, but not a lot. While its OK in pve to have squads made up of mostly sins, in TW, an abundance of assassins is a liability not an asset; they are not designed to weather great amounts of physical and magic damage, and bramble is a big obstacle in killing other well-geared people.

So for these people like myself who have the ability to make huge volumes of coin to outfit a character for TW, they are choosing non-assassin classes to pimp out. For some, that is wizard; others, psychics, and for myself, its a cleric. My guess is that all of the arcane classes should see increased #s in TW factions relative to other classes. R9 is a no-brainer for arcane classes, they get a much greater power increase in it than do assassins, and are better at TW by default due to the ranged nature of their attacks.

Think of how many people that play this game whose biggest goal is to do well in TW, and you'll see that this theory holds some truth at least.

Agreed. Use your shields, know your elements, or don't work a wizzie. I know enough good wizzies on DW that the bad ones stick out like a sore thumb.

So, if I understand you correctly, players rolled the easy-mode class, FC'd it up to Nirvana level, farmed like mad to make boatloads of coin. Now are rolling an arcane, FC'ing it up to 101, buying it full R9 +12 (aka easy-mode gear) and are powning in TW.

Guess staying loyal to my wizzy class was a boneheaded move - and leveling to 101 with only two trips into FC (for the quests) wasn't too efficient either. Maybe not efficient, but a whole lot of fun along the way. Gonna miss the Tiger event rewards though. With so few wizzies, R8 ensured a top-ten place every week, but I've been seeing more and more new names at the top of the list, with double my scores.

That's still the most fun I've had in ages b:victory b:cute

But anyway, I still don't see many wizzies around, and I almost always get a reaction along the lines of 'wow a wiz o.o' when I join a squad, even more so when there is another wiz in the same squad. But I will say when I 1st started playing wiz (and kinda still now) I noticed wizzies more than I had when I wasn't one simply cause I was playing one. But I kinda hope that wizzies are making a comeback (not too much tho >.>) cause the world always needs more wizzies b:cute b:chuckle

Edit: not that it's that important but I'm 88 now not 75, idk what's up with the wrong lvl being showed >.>

I've seen a lot more wizzies since people started doing regular caster nirvana runs. It was more profitable to run those during 2x to farm coin/cannies for my sin, than it was to just do it on the sin directly.

May see a decrease of this now, since caster squads have started asking for only TT99+ weps.

Plus, with power leveling, a lot of wizards that would have given up during those first painfully squishy levels, can just pass go and pay $200+ dollars to get a decently geared arcane toon.

Love my squishy but offensively powerful wizzie. Decided on a wizard when I started playing despite all the forum notes on how wizards were useless, obsolete etc etc.. Have not regretted it once. Climbing the hard way so 90 percent of the way to level 89 (can't wait for 90-built some awesome gear).
I have not seen any more wizards playing either. As far as running in an instance, I have only been in one squad where I wasn't the only wizard. Kinda like the uniqueness of being in a minority so I, selfishly, hope people don't decide to roll a bunch of wizards just because of the new expansion (have to admit that I haven't read up as much as I should so not really sure how it will affect my class-should be interesting) For those that do decide to roll a wizard, good choice-it's a great class . :)

Agreed, on most, if not all, of these.

I've quested my wizzie up, and love grinding away at mobs. Now that she can use herb and level five apoth, she'll grind away even more. DB all the things, as I scream many times in squad chat with friends in squad. (It'd just be awkward to yell it at strangers.)
