Why people take this game so much seriously?

Hm i noticed some people take this game like real life,
I know someone he said he pee on his pants when he got his r9... Lol
And i really think it's true lol.
I really heard to much strange things.
That really become pathetic.
Do they have real problems?
Or they don't see the sun outside their house?! Lol
Do they transfer their sadness in real life, to happiness in the game for prove something?
If you have opinion/experience about this, put it there.

Its an escape for some and a competition for others. Then for others still it's an alternate reality thats miles better than their real life.

Personally I don't take it too seriously as a whole, but within the game I take my honour and skill as seriously as you can without the game becoming your life :P
I've quit excluding TW for my faction. But I still hang around to help out those who still enjoy the game under PWEs horrific handling and to have fun in the forums. b:cute
#Shame about PWEs absolutely craptastic handling of the goons glitching. Remember kids, there's no punishment for breaking the rules here!#
If you make a valid complaint, your thread will disapear. Don't post it here, post it on other sites where PW can't hide it.

Why do people take boxing Serious , its just 2 random ppl hitting each others face.
Why do people take soccer serious, its just 23 ppl running behind a ball.
    Why ..... ect ect

You say playing a video game is not part of the real life ? Do people stop breathing or eating or sleeping or feeling when they logg into their favorite video game ? I dont think so ! People get excited about their hobbys, i dont see a difference between a hardcore bavaria munich fan or a pwi fan.

People take their hobbys serious, nothing wrong about it. For example i give a damm about soccer really but do i rub this a hardcore fan under his nose ? NO, because everyone can believe in whatever they want and dedicate to whatever they feel like. And if its PWI , there is nothing wrong about.

1=> they have real friends (not friends at 6000miles away from u)

Only time i take it seriously is when I'm refining...
Seriously, i have the worst luck at it, and usually find myself renaming the game and refining system after awhile. I guess i'd spend less money using dorbs all the way, but I keep thinking i'll get it with mirages soon enough! All the while, I probably spend like 500k MORE than using dorbs. b:surrender

You guys also seem to forget that a lot of ppl on here have either health or mental problems wich prevents them from fully participating in real life where everything is so standard... Because they can't manage those things irl they seek it online where they aren't limited by there health/mental problems... I know lot's of ppl these days don't understand that but around 6 years ago most of the ppl constantly online where ppl with these problems aka outcasts... So like many other games and sites online it's just the place to be where you are welcome for who you are and where no one is avoiding you just for your incapebilletie... So yeah eventualy ppl like that might see this as if it is there life and it fills up the emptyness they have irl...

if your using the right refining method (mirage to +3 Tienkang to +5/6 Tisha to +7 and using event gold for the tienkang/tisha) you really have to try to spend more than d orbs 0_o and iv had some insanely bad luck before(over 1k mirages to +7 something) and that still was nothing compared to cost of d orbing.
full 3r9 +11/12 (still using immac shards though) w/o CSing, leveled to 105 spaming pv, yes i have no life =D

I wasted way more than 1k mirages (with "right refining method" with tishas/tienkangs) for getting nothing several times. Get only rarly +5, only +6 once --> i lost the game. @OP But better than lost IN game :P

    Why take it seriously?

Well... Some people want to have fun, so... They do stuff like farm gear and such, only to have their fun ruined by people who pay for it.

Which is the other reason people take this game seriously.

They have put large, large, large sums of money into the game. Thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars.

Now if only the people that run the game would take the playerbase seriously, and the game itself as well.

True, but... this isn't really a game.

It's an MMO. It's more like a hobby. You don't just play for a few minutes when you're bored, you need to sink an appreciable amount of time, effort and/or money to accomplish anything.

PWI is an over-glorified 3d avatar chat program with a bunch of different mini-games inside of it. There is no high score, no excellent ending cut scene nor is there a "game over".

So yeah, people do take it way too seriously, because they spend far too much time logged in than is healthy.

In fact, one of the real requirements of the game is that you spend unhealthy amounts of time playing it, so if you wonder why there are so many mentally disturbed freaks in the game, it's kinda because it's a prerequisite.

Quite seriously I have to agree on with one of the ones on the first page this game is "not just a game". In only the sense football is a game or chess is a game or hell politics is a game, which in quite a few circles it is. People get wound up when you insult what they do even if it doesn't mean so much.

If I was wearing a yellow shirt and yellow was my favorite color and this was my favorite shirt you had better dam well believe you would get an earful. Its just a shirt right? Yes but its my shirt, its my shirt and you disrespecting it means your disrespecting my choice get it? I don't hold any particular obsession or mental illness over my shirt, I simply do not wish to be insulted or denied something because of my choice in shirts.

Friends online are important especially to the people who have them, just because they don't live close to you does not mean that they are any less valuable. There are some online friends I hold in higher regard then some other friends I see every week. To simply state that a relationship without contact is not a relationship at all is pig headed.

Besides just because someone likes a sport rather then an mmo does not a loner not make. I have in fact met several sports fans that do not have any friends, does this make them the exception or the rule? Why? Why because its sports is it any different then computer games? They are both games here people with different mediums, its not like sports fans really do more then those who do computer games.

    I'd actually have to disagree.

Sports fans usually like to go to games, maybe they don't do it often, but they also usually like to drink and go to bars to watch games. At least there are more opportunities for avid sports fans to be part of real life social activities.

And I disagree about comparing an MMO to real life sports. A game has a distinct beginning, middle and end, or if it's ongoing, there are points that are tallied.

PWI does have some in-game elements that resemble games, but in the end you can play Perfect World all day and night and not accomplish anything. In sports, if you participate and do not do a single thing, you lose.

And while sports is definitely an activity people can get too obsessive or compulsive about, participating takes involvement.

I wish I could teleport all my faction mates to real life events that don't involve a computer. Sadly that will never happen.

I'm not saying MMOs are always bad. They're good for some people who can't or won't cope with reality all that well for whatever reasons, and by all means if you have good friends online it's certainly better than having no friends at all.

It's really not all that difficult to make friends though it may take to much effort or stress for some to even try.

    I agree and disagree.

I mean, just because it's a real life "sport" or "hobby" and just the execution if different doesn't make the comparison any less. where that is concerned, your also alittle contradicting yourself. friend in game = better than nothing yet sport/being fan = better for social life than playing games online with the message related to anxiety/stress.

It's all relative, really. everything positive also has a negative and vice versa.

at least from that point of view i am ambiguous about your post.

It's ok to take the game seriously as long as u're 'playing' the game. It's a hobby, something you do for fun. For me it's like a way to get out of a strenuous college life, a chance to chat with people that speak my language and do fun stuff with them.
But nowadays what's happened is people CSing their way to r9 +12 JoSDs, then boasting about it acting like they're boss. CSing is fine, but boasting about it?
The message they send me is that they have a serious problem with that they're too lame irl that people don't pay attention to them, so they get on game, spend their life savings to get OP gear and wait while people gasp and say "OMG R9!!". oooh good attention xD

I didn't mean it that way. I stated that a sports fan has more opportunity to socialize IRL than say an MMO fan. I didn't say that they would, only that there are many sports related events one can choose to participate in if you chose to do so as either a participant or observer. I don't know of any bars, restaurants or stores that have MMO nights, nor do groups of MMO players get together to support their MMO or if you just meet some random stranger who wants to socialize, you'll probably go farther talking about sports than MMOs.
