It depends on your state. I live in PA and they charge tax on all prepaid cards, including PWi cards. GameStop itself doesn't tax them, so if there's no prepaid card tax in your state, it won't have tax when you go to buy it.

I live in tennessee and I got a few cards at walmart and target, they didn't charge me. I was wondering if GS would.

Game stop charges its own tax and blames it on state and federal tax laws... I then went to target and left with only paying a $20 bill... no tax.... But that was a year ago now I just charge it b:laugh

Well considering I go to target/walmart to buy prepaid cards for my phone (but I assume they are under different laws? I'm not really sure) and they charge tax on them, I still assume it's up to the state.

Anyway, in early 2010, Gamestop didn't charge tax until about mid-late 2010 when it seemed to have changed.
Also, I have never been informed on Gamestop charging its "own" tax, like I said, I was a former GameStop employee.

From what I have seen, NY State Gamestops charge taxes. I stopped paying there and took my money to Target.

Walmart and Target seem to charge tax for things like Amex gift cards. I haven't seen them charge taxes for game prepaid cards, though. Then again, that's likely just for NY state.

    Try Target or Walmart, first.

The best thing to do is a quick google search on your state's law, instead of asking forum, I guess. there doesn't seem to be a clear answer here.

It all depends on the current regulations of your state. Michigan seems to change theirs on a monthly basis, so you never know from one day to the next whether you will be taxed or not.

i live in omaha, neb. and here they charge like 1.50 in tax for a 20 dollar prepaid card. that's why i go to target or walmart because they don't charge tax. thank god.
Do you hate me? Good, that makes for an adequate conversation starter.
