Ok, I am a nearly comlete wizard noob, however I made one cause my main is not necesarily the best in tw or even the third best. So far im lv 86 and I have 300k rep and all the rank 9 stuff to get everything except the weapon, so I will have to make do with the rank 8 one for awhile.
I have a hand me down lunar channel cape an warsoul helm (which I think will be ok even if not "the best") and a 2nd grade cube neck.
I have enough set aside to sage out all the skills also.

Unfortunately it takes alot fo time to farm an so I still need refines and gems and the rank 9 weapon to be farmed at a later date.

*the main question is this* In a tw setting is it beneficial from a really noticable standpoint of play (rather then stats) to use anything besides the rank 8 and 9 ring. It is a nice idea for me to save money on refines an also rings by using both the rank ones, however has anyone noticed that being a sucky alternative in actual play?

I am using both rank rings but only because I was kinda too lazy/cheap to get a cv ring so far. I would take the 250 pdef over the hp anytime. Some mages also use a highly refined (+10-+12) sky cover ring for the extra pdef, but sacrificing the extra damage feels kinda wrong, especially for TW. For open world PvP that might be different.

Yeah, using a sky cover for def at the cost of attack seems really dumb for a tw only wizard. On the other hand I have no experience fighting as a wizard in tw yet, so I don't know what im going to have to worry about killing me. My geuss is sins an archers or other magic classes.

Well if you play smart, you will mostly have to worry about archers and other wiz or psy in TW. Sins if you are a priority target, or sneaking around alone - But they will mostly jump your clerics. It always depends on how many sins teh enemy faction got tho.

Personally I try to play very defensively in TW. Tab target to get chi and drop ults from max range into groups of people. Or use sutra on a cata barb passing by. Just don't get carried away with nuking and pursuing a tough target and find yourself surrounded by enemies. If the target retreats, get a new one that's more convenient to reach. If you got an archer targeting you from max range try to shrink back to your people. It's often not worth it to use up apo/genie/other ressources to win that one on one. Always hit people unexpected. :3 You should also get a genie with cloud eruption and some chi pots/dew stars/anti stun pots/channeling pots/immune pots depending on personal preference.

Doesn't anyone just play wizard anymore? Or is everyone making these chia pet - like wizards ---> just add water [rank 9] and voila! A tw wizard!

This is why I see rank 9 archers defending their base with BoA on cata barbs hitting their crystal b:beatup

    Ch-ch-ch-chia! lolol.

Depends on what your preferences are. I'd say definitely use the r9 ring because of the high magic attack (210), 5 def levels, and crit. I'd also use the r8 ring because I like the +4% crit and the +mag attack (125) isn't too shabby. If you were going to get anything different, depending on your play style, I'd say go for one that has tons of +mag/+mag. atk (watch 3* rings of heavenly piety and 3* dream of reality). I'm a pure nuker and the +250 p. def really doesn't thrill me coz I'm cit sharded. If I was garn sharded I would consider it, but with my def it's really not going to make a big difference. I wouldn't worry about getting hp from a ring because refines can take care of that easily. If you're worried about p. def, honestly, shard with garnets or get the nirvana or the lunar helm that gives +p. def (lunar also gives def level). You don't have a lot of sources to get +magic attack aside from your weapon and it's shards.

I wouldn't go for cloud stir or sky clover or w/e the heck the magic ring is because it's only 3% crit, -6 chan, and 2 def levels or attack levels or something goofy. R8 is better than that. For the m. def you lose on refining rings (since rank isn't refineable qq / they need a phys version of Seal of Eternal Solitude) just spam elemental shell when you're gettin tagged by another magic user.

Thanks again- I did opt to use both rank rings. It saves me alot of coinage and hassle of refining something else. I think that outfits the little bit of def with using other rings, although I sorta liked the ring of zealousness.

You see casters like me with rank 9 as soon as the hit 101 because we are pretty much what is effective in tw. Obviously that makes it attractive for cash shoppers, merchant, an aps farmers to make. Not very likely will you see anyother then those three able to make a rank 9 wizard within a year or so..if ever. Yes, I know some of the older players got thier rnak 9 a bit easier with the old dq thing that is nolnger available.
