Frankie - Male or Female?

Hai,
I have come across debates like the one in the last few posts several times before over the years. Basically some people have this mental model in their head where they treat their in-game character (or even forum avatar) as a separate and almost real person from the person who is irl controlling that character (or posting to the forum).
I think the majority of people I meet do not think like that. When they see a character in-game or an avatar in a forum they think of it as just some pixels that somehow represents the real life person.
I have seen extreems of both cases. I know folks who talk about their in-game characters in the 3rd person. E.g. you ask "do you wanna come rebirth?" they might reply "I don't but xXMyMysticXx sure does!". They treat their characters as separate from themselves.
So some people don't mind being called female if they are a guy playing a female character. Because they believe you are speaking to the in-game character who is a girl...not them.
BTW im kinda in-between myself, sometimes I talk about my characters as if they are someone different from me (mostly for the lolz) and other times I act like the character actually is me. Jeez maybe I should see a therapist about that.

This whole gender confusion began because, when I first started at PWE to help localize the game, I was assigned a female blademaster for testing purposes. A few months later, the game went live, and the blademaster became a GM, and since players always knew my character as female, I continued the tradition with the female forum avatar.
The name FrankieRaye comes from the Marvel character known as Nova, herald to Galactus.
Your quite handsome frankie :O i thought you'd be old b:surrenderlalalala Pokemon

Cya in a perfect world...
I do not "believe" that characters are completely separate minds of their own. I just acknowledge facts here. Let's review them.
-Characters have their own sets of attributes. Race, class, and yes, sex (even if they're just pixels)
-Players control these characters, and as such;
-The mind of a player is shared with the character
-The character is further represented in PWE games by an avatar mode in the forum, sort of like a "reverse avatar", where we as players are carrying the identity of the character, rather than our own
The only thing shared by the player and the character is the mind. Gender is completely separate, and as long as we're only interacting with each other in the game and on the character-avatar forum, it don't matter what the player is in the end. Though that does not mean we are limited to getting to know each other beyond the character... it just means that, well, we're all also in a game when we're playing.
Here's a comparison. If you are a male IRL, and for some reason, your soul (if you believe in such things. And if you don't, just humor me for sake of this analogy) suddenly possesses a female body... would you be physically male, or physically female? Of course you would be physically female. Your "soul" would be talking through the female body, but the only sex that would matter would be the body's. This analogy is referring to the fact that your "mind"(as in you controlling the character through your computer's interface) is "possessing" the character's body. You're talking "through" the character using in-game chat. You as the player is compared to the soul of the analogy.
As I've pointed out before, properly addressing "Frankieraye" is addressing the female Blademaster GM character who takes the role of Community Manager. Properly addressing Steven is addressing the PWE employee who uses Frankieraye, the female Blademaster GM character to assume the Community Manager role. "Steven" and "Frankieraye" are completely separate except in mind. They share the same brain, and thus share the same role and responsibilities to the PWE company. But they are "physically" completely separate.
To clarify further, there is no such thing as a "male Venomancer", as the players themselves can't be Venomancers, only the game characters, and the Venomancers in-game can only be female. The proper statement is "male Venomancer player", or "male playing as a Venomancer". The term "male Venomancer" is a statement saying that you are indeed falsely acknowledging that the player and the character are physically one in the same.
There is nothing in the acknowledgement of these facts that state that characters have a different mind, as you're assuming, Elstraya(not trying to seem hostile there, it's just something that needs to be highlighted). They just different(if just pixel/virtual) bodies. Anything beyond these facts, such as playing as if the characters have a different mind than their players is strict roleplaying. But acknowledging yourself "as" the character you're playing as is completely within the proper context of game immersion.
You can call that roeplaying if you want. And I guess it is a form of roleplaying to an extent... but I see it also as the acknowledgement of facts. Though I agree with you, Elstraya, that it does seem that most players do not do this. I just wish it wasn't so confusing for myself. I tend to think logically and analytically about these things too much. xD
Though really, this is all a topic of semantics. I strongly believe that if you know what the other person is talking about, it don't matter how one says it. letting one know what you're trying to convey is the sole purpose of communication, after all. b:victory b:bye[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Recently some girl questioned my sexuality because I play a female. She couldn't understand my reasoning for doing so. It's the same reason I like games with female leads more than ones with male leads.Tatuaje - Lost City wrote: »Everyone needs to click on Pandas link at the end of his Signatuure.

My heart was pounding like crazy, and my feet were aching in my hiking boots, which had long been torn to shreds due to the underbrush I'd been trekking through. I braced myself up against a tree-trunk as strands of sunlight danced through the dense treeline, illuminating the canopy.
Tiny silvery wings streaked across my field of vision, and I became mesmerized by their dance of pales as I caught my breath. I felt light-headed and exhausted. The chorus of bluejays, sparrows and warblers echoed throughout the canopy above. It was entrancing. I felt myself losing grip of the world; I wanted to simply sit down and be swept up in the cacophony of nature's vibrant aria.
My heavy equipment nagged incessantly on my back, weighed down by the knowledge that I needed to sample 8 more sites for dusky-footed woodrats before calling it a day. Each site would warrant a full suite of gadgets, rulers, stakes, soil samples... the list was endless. Then each site would demand I cram it all back in the pack before moving on to the next. I sighed in weariness as my mind replayed the day's field sampling, and depicted the remaining sites' activities.
"Just another half mile to site 32", I said out loud in a feigned attempt to rouse my own spirits. My knees groaned in reply.
"To hell with this" I resolved. "I'm just going to donate to conservation groups. Those woodrats are just going to have to make do with that. I want a desk job."[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] "Life is short...Bury! Steady Sword!"0 -
