Names with spaces?

I've seen this person before and I want to know two things:

One- How did the person get the space into their name and

Two- Is it illegal?

I have screenshots of this person's name and it just boggles my mind every time. Maybe they won some sort of event or something... Or it's some sort of glitch? Would be nice to find out, IMO b:surrender

    Naming rules have changed quite a bit in the 3.5 years or so the game's been up. I believe that spaces were, in fact, acceptable at one point. Then again, "special" characters like /, _, and \ weren't. So yeah. Probably not hacks. b:chuckle

    If you have an old enough account and character, it's easily possible to have been from when we could add spaces to names.

    And, oh yeah, doing everyday things like whispering to someone with a space in their name sucks. That's probably why they're disallowed now. b:chuckle

    Yeah. It's like the thing with our auto-censorship making bosses unable to be eaten... or defeated!

    My archer originally had a number in her name. I made that character during a 1 week period in 2008 when numbers were allowed in character names. It broke my drop rate on certain quests, I think. Quest drop items would not drop for me, ever, even some that were supposed to be 100% (inventory was empty, quest log had space in it).

    I've been whispered by people with spaces in their names. So yes, it's possible to have a space in your name, but you had to make the character in 2008, most likely the second week of December (when I made my Archer).

    And a handful of other alts, all 79 and under.
