Not getting quests

Sometimes when i do quests that requir drops from monsters, the monsters never drop anything. This seems to happen when i am in a party with someone who already completed the quest.

Now i just tried to do the quest where you put a carrot on a treestump and then kill a rabbit. First i did it 2 times with a big party. One of the other guys also needed the quest. Neither of us got it. Then we made a party with just the 2 of us and did it two times again. (we both went to get a new carrot) The first time neither of us go the quest, the second time only he did.

Can anyone explain to me why this is happening? Is there any logic in it, or is it just random ?

    For some quests, rather than everyone getting the quest drop, only one person does (usually the one who hits first.)

    there are also some quests that must be done solo, without party. in that case take healer with you just to heal you while you kill some elite. there are also certain bosses that requires you to hit first and some that requires you to do more than 50% damage. b:pleased
