I'm sure that most will agree, West Archosaur is difficult to navigate.
The amount of Catshops cause FPS Jitter on any machine that was built before 2010 and several more built beyond. The amount of scrambled text above Catshops is headache inducing and you cannot easily find what you need. People who run Catshops in Archosaur are leaving there computer running which is far-from eco-friendly and probably driving peoples electricity bills up unnecessarily.
My suggestion is to stop people catshop'ing in Archosaur and instead find a better less laggy and less electricity intense solution.
A better solution for example would be organized stools dotted around Archosaur in the places relevant to what is being sold. Players can then see the listed items easily without having to swim through headache inducing lag.
We could make exceptions to keep the people who have paid for there special Vendor shops happy and they will feel like buying the vendor shop was worth it because they can now be a catshop in Archosaur where everyone shops.
There are ofcourse many drawbacks I'm sure you guys will think of, but that is for you to discuss. Do the benefits outweigh the costs?

if it were a majority having the same problems as you, then sure... i could see wanting to make a change- but since it is nowhere near a majority, things will not change. i suggest you upgrade your equipment you use to run the game if it bothers you that much.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

Even more than the lag I hat the clutter of catshops in Arch. I would suggest an open instance like secret passage, without mobs of course, that can be accessed either through a door in west arch or an npc so people who want to shop around can and others can move through the city unhindered. Also all other city zones would have to be catshop disabled, which they should be able to do since we have 'unable to sit down' areas already.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

And call it underground shopping destrict... Maybe with even a variation of locations for diffirent kinds of items (and afcourse also one for mixed shops) spreaded over that map... Would greatly decrease the lags for those not shopping and doing their stuff around Archosaur (currently Lagosaur)... Great idea... b:victory Too bad this will probably never happen though... b:surrender[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I built my pc in 2001 and i have no problems..... btw the lag is all the people, with diff looks that the server has to keep sending all the info to u and it's not coming fast enough. CAT SHOPS all look the same.
Hide people you should be fine. Hell i barely "lag burp" even not hiding people but i still hide em.
RT and Tellus it's the flashy stuff and maybe your vid card cant' handle... turn down distance in the first tab, not the second (second tab Distance all the way down enable u to toggle the hide people button over your HP bar) and you should be fine there too only seeing one or two huge flashy balls and **** at a time.A better solution for example would be organized stools dotted around Archosaur in the places relevant to what is being sold. Players can then see the listed items easily without having to swim through headache inducing lag.
what? npc's or something peopel can go to and put one specific thing up at each one to sell? isnt' that kinda like... the AUCTION HOUSE? lol and just no that'd take too long runnin to this spot then that spot etc etc...0 -
Or simply making npc-shops for all for some $ like in AH where you can rent a npc-shop for 2-5-8-12-15-18-24 hrs then another npc that filters the items youre looking for poiting their location in the map (auto path like) then you can find them faster, and people would not have their computers on all day every day.
This has cons and pros.
Pros:- Less load in the servers from unnecessary shops online 24/7
- Timed selling of items, so you need to be active in order to keep selling things and not afk for a month then come back and check your shop.
- Less lag
- Faster item finding
- Some-what of a coin sink due to "taxes" and "time fees".
Cons:- Will need a new map (a shopping map)
- Will need to script the system, which may take long - deppending on the developer's skills to solve problems.
- Some people may QQ of taxes, AH works the same way so...
- Less population count in-game from afk shops (no real population).
Anyway I don't see this happening even though it is easy to make...
A mmorpg i could name if allowed uses this system and is pretty nice and friendly.WTB> -12% channeling BELT or RING pm me with link or mail me ingame HT server, ty.0 -

Or pwi could just let people sell pack rewards in Auction house and just get rid of Catshops altogether. I'm not convinced the shops are why your lagging.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

Also I can confirm that the shops are indeed why I am lagging. Put simply, with my normal graphics (pretty much all sliders midway) I get about 5 fps in Archosaur. Hiding players alone gets me up to about 30.0 -
hiding people doesnt' hide catshops.... >.< LOL
and ya i'd take a look at your equipment.... I have TWO ACCOUTNS on in arch atm, NORTH arch, and i just looked. at that second one's at 3 frames and yellow (OK) ping. And did i mention i dont' lag? And if u dont' know where the hell you're going jsut cause there's cat shops u got bigger problems then lag.
how bout posting on your main, so we can see what server you're on. DO u live in europe by chance? and connecting to a US server? Cause it's usually those people that whine about lag and forget the miles and miles and miles of wire and hubs and **** between them and PW.0 -
i totally agree about the problems in West Archo and the problems of trying to read the text above each shop. with so many crowded together, its almost impossible to read. i have a few ideas that might be of help:
* set it up so that the shops can only be spaced out evenly, and not so random or squished together. perhaps one per every two flagstones?
* have shops be permitted to be set up in certain areas, depending on what they are selling, for instance, shops selling dyes and fashion could only be set up near tailors and seamstresses, shops for materials for weapons around blacksmiths, and so on. the sellers of herbs already have the idea, grouping around the Apothecary in West Archo
* set up these 'shopping disctrics' in all the major cities, so that things arent too crowded, and things can be made available to the various levels of players the seller is targeting. in the present clutter, its very hard to find anything, especially for a new player. perhaps PWE could give some kind of incentive to sellers who set up in the starter cities?
i hope these ideas can be of some help.I'm sure that most will agree, West Archosaur is difficult to navigate.

Personally, I like the grid Idea. Shops snap to spots on a grid, and can't be x distance from NPC's. It would allow all the nice shops for me to shop at, but clean the clutter.Take the time to look for your answer before you post like an idiot.

Whoopsy, I fail. I tested this just now not realising that hiding players doesn't hide catshops.. My camera was not facing any Catshops so I was none the wiser b:chuckle
If Catshops are not the issue, then it's the players swarming around them like bee's to honey. Removing the honey removes the Bee's.. But also leaves an angry swarm of Bee's flying around on the forum lol.
There must be a better way, no?
Edit: I like the Grid Idea.
Here's another thought; What if there was a small fee for Catshop'ing but you don't have to be signed into pwi? Atleast that way you can turn the computer off whilst you're afk.0 -
i have no problems reading catshop names either.... hide the NAMES, u know, the OTHER little button over your HP bar? hides players names and guilds etc...0
-
If you are having lag-issues, I would suggest using the handy-dandy button up by your health and such that turns the graphics to the lowest settings. This makes navigating West Arch a lot easier and a lot more lag-friendly. If this doesn't work for you, well...my condolences then.0
-
hey, thats a good idea-taking off the players name and guild. its not necessary information for selling. if someone really needs to know, its there when you click on the shop, isnt it?
ok, two good ideas- grid the shops, and take off names/guilds from text over the shopAlasen - Heavens Tear wrote: »i have no problems reading catshop names either.... hide the NAMES, u know, the OTHER little button over your HP bar? hides players names and guilds etc...[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

On our server CatShops are grouped together by what you are buying. Some DO put CatShops near the South AH, an some DO put CatShops by the South Banker/Teleporter. We also have a nice amount near the TT Pots.
The only thing I can recommend is the known Vendors work out a strategy to move their shops to another area, less laggy and hope the others follow.
I prefer to set my CatShop selling TT mats closer to the South AH, but off the sidewalk. People walking by view as well as people visiting AH there.
I browse/buy the Shops that use the same stall location, because I do visit the same ones frequently.0 -

cept that turns EVERYTHING down and makes the game look ****ty lol..... doing what i said does the EXACT same thing w/o turning down graphics. hide people in arch (or anywhere else u run into 5000 people), turn distance down in RT and Tellus.0 -

Ya hide names (with that button [the first small one] over your HP bar), and all you'll see is the shop title. U wanan see their name and guild it shows it in the normal .... avatar icon window thingie that pops up in the top middle when u click on someone lol.0 -
I think... there should be specific places for catshopping laid out.
like.
catshop d orbs in tellus next to teleporter<-example0 -
holy cow, cat shops aren't the problem, it's the 500 people in one place...... said it on page one....
If they made another zone for cat shops you'd STILL lag like hell if you dont' know how to stop it...... cause everyone would be THERE. granted maybe not as many, some people just hang out in west for some reason... but still...0 -

As soon as you get PWI to revise their minimum hardware requirements for this game, I will accept that explanation.
Otherwise, it's just the merchandising version of "reroll, n00b".
Start a poll, since you don't speak to anyone who ever has FPS problems in this game. Ask how many peopl have trouble navigating thru west arch and the umpteen catshops.A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

Oooooooooooooooooooh hohohoho old on! You guys seriously don't want this, we have this police in the PWBR, we was having lag, getting DC and even the error "returning state" (dunno how this error was translated here), so instead of the Level Up upgrade their hardware, they created a rule for only open shops in the soulth district because they are very cheap, they only moved the lag from another place, It's more laggy to use the shops now and we can have the "returning state" error more often.
See for yourselves, pay attention on the green dots on the map:

PS: our case is the server hardware, not people computers.0 -
I doubt that the "marketplace" idea would work very well. There will be too many people still complaining about lag and what not. Just do what other's suggested and turn down your settings and/or upgrade your system.
For the most part, the majority of the player base already sets their shops in locations relevant to what they are buying or selling, or where they believe they will get the most business. The shops are already limited on the character spaces in the shop names to try to help limit the clutter, but there isn't much that can be done with the amount of people that play this game.
Personally, I wouldn't like being told where I could, and could not, put up my shop. Not motivated enough to make another PWI siggy0 -

I've had FPS problems in this game, they all went away when I got a new modem and a new computer...
So, it could be something else; but most likely it's a computer issue. Not motivated enough to make another PWI siggy0 -

You ever pay attention when/if u log in the game in West? The cat shops load in SECONDS (more like a split second). Now go UN-hide everyone.... peopel pop up one. by one... by one.... by one.... by one.... by one....... get it?
Christ i was in south arch doing the quiz and i had to hide people cause i was lagging BAD there..... i dont 'even lag in WEST cept a hiccup here and there, even NOT hiding people.0 -

How about there is a small fee to the person who clicks the catshop b:pleased. Portion of that fees goes to the catshop, another portion to pwi b:chuckle. That would stop people swarming around catshops b:victory.
There are issues with grids, first being a spot, all the charm shops are by west tele, mats by west blacksmith, dorbs by jewelcraftsman, tokens by banker. What happens if the tt people decide to move shops, and people can't find spots. They set up shop where they find space and start spamming chat to get attention. There will be major QQ about that, because if gold spammers were bad(a few accounts), imagine all those shops doing it (hundreds).
The idea of an instance, sure it removes lag in west arch, but imagine when you go shopping there b:shocked. Face it, there will be some items that you need that will be cheaper in catshops than boutique that is gear related.
If people have issues with lag, there are 2 easy fixes, one is turn down your settings to minimum. I had no lag issues with a single core processor using outdated graphics card. My new six core does the same job as the single core. Turning down settings helps. Removing names, players, stuff like that helps. 2nd option, check how far you are from the physical connection coming to your house. The further away you are, worse the quality. Improving speed might help, but if the line can not support it, higher speed won't do any good.0 -
3 years ago this was a huge problem bc it where thousands of catshop in arch . Even with a brand new computer and 100mbps fiber it was a pain going there.0
-
no, few years ago it was bigger problem cause there were ALOT more people actualyl playing. static cat shops with the same skin dont' lag people out, said this twice now. That's like saying u go stand around outside etherblade adn all the grass is lagging you out. lol or something..0
-
^ lol love how so many people complain about lag or w/e and dont' even know what cause it. I wonder if they even know what part of the computer is the motherboard.0
