Sage with -channeling is the way to go! Once they nerf APS you will be unstoppable, you will be one of the few casting SIN's and it will put you in high demand.

Just restat about 100 points from dex to magic and get as much -channelling gear as you can find.

There is no one right answer. My personal experience amounts to being a Sage sin with about 2/3 of all Sage skills so far. I'm currently 2.5 aps and the skill books and learning the skills has cost me enough to cover a Barrier Thorn: Nirvana dagger.

A Demon sin is good to go with little to no skill books, so they're cheaper. Also, with the APS craze being what it is, you'd have an easier time farming Nirvana for profits as a Demon.

My personal opinion is that you shouldn't choose a cultivation based on costs, but what you want to do with your character. The best way to decide a cultivation would be to compare the sparks and the Sage and Demon skills. Here is a handy spreadsheet with the lvl 10 skills, Demon skills and Sage skills in an easy-to-compare layout.

Majority of sins are Demon for one simple reason: It's easier. As a Demon, all you need is to get 5 aps. After that, you'll have an easy time farming Nirvana squads for good coins. A Sage won't get that option. As a Sage, you'll end up depending on faction mates and friends. And of course, as a Sage you'll want to have Sage Subsea, Sage Power Dash and Sage Bloodpaint to make yourself more appealing.

Of course, the argument that you should choose Demon because it's cheaper to get popular is faulty. If you wanted cheap 5 aps, you'd go with a fist BM instead of an Assassin.

As for PvP, I'd say it's a pretty pointless argument. Not only are sins already excessively powerful in PvP, but Demons get better control skills and spike damage, whereas Sage gets more consistent, higher hit damage. But you'd have to ask, does that 2 seconds more of stun matter if your opponent dies three seconds before the stun runs out anyway?

Olbaze pretty much covered it : both culties got their good points.

Just to add to it, the genie argument is typical of an aps-freak. Ofc, if you are an aps freak yourself, demon is the better option. If "5 aps sin" is your aim, don't go sage cause it won't be worth it.

Demon is obviously the easier choice, since most ppl base judgement on aps, which is higher by default on demon. But there are also good skill besides the red spark to choose demon for. Myself, I find sage more versatile in play, and think demon is to much orientated for 1 target damage.
