Attitude of the player base

Hi,

Anyone else fed up with the general greedy, selfish, power-leveling attitude of folks in this game lately?

When I first started playing Perfect World (about a month after it was released) the one thing (apart from the amazing graphics and great music) that really got me hooked was the attitude of the playing community.

The emphasis in the gameplay seemed to be on "helping others". People were happily helping others quest for DQ items, running their FBs, teaching them how to play their class. It felt like the game rewarded those who were helpful. There was a feeling that everyone was having fun, chatting making friends etc.

Over the years the atmosphere has shifted to one where people who are "playing" Perfect World are just doing it for their own gain. To get the best gear, the most coins, to get the highest level, to p0wn everyone else at PvP.

For example, I have given up doing my BHs because when I do its just a bunch of sins and high APS BMs who run off into the distance with a goal of getting to the end of the BH as quick as possible. No chatting, no friendship or fun or even any challenge to the quest...just rush, rush, rush. For a cleric especially it's really frustrating and frankly not fun at all for me.

If you want anyone to help you with anything in this game now you have to pay them lol.

I wonder why attitudes changed like this, is it due to the type of content added to the game or is this just the natural progression for any mature MMO? I think probs a mixture of both...game is more fun when everyone starts out at same level...you discover stuff together. But the content has an effect on peoples attitudes too, for example instead of adding a new feature to allow people to measure their damage they could have added a new feature to allow people to measure how often they help others or how many friends they have etc.

Its not just the hyper babies and folks who glitched FC, just generally seems this game is becomming less about the quests and the chat and the friends and more about PvP.

Sigh, anyways, I didn't mean that to be a rant. Actually I am feeling pretty positive about the latest patch, glad they fixed SP (finally) and I will check out the new CS and Justice Orders.

there are some oldies out there that are still playing from that time of the good old days.

some of them use to be nice, now they dont really care about **** others over in a game. (TW is a good example >.< the backstage is ugly)

When the GM of the game makes a statement like he did about the "secret passage being pk enabled and you don't really need to do quests in there anyways" that should be a good general idea of where the attitude is coming from. When the developers of the game don't think that the things they built within the game are important, and they just want everyone to buy hypers, charge zen, and level up so they can charge more and get r9 then it should become apparent to you where the problem is. I remember those days, this isn't my first toon. I've been here since Dec of 2008. Back then when you asked for help, ppl did it to be kind. I'm sure that people like you speak of existed, but not in mass. I also think that the age range has grown to include so many 15-21 year olds that its stifling in maturity.

Far as rushing in BH's..... mostly cause we have more then one toon to do dailys on and dont' wanan be on the pc all day lol or something.....

Meh...I've been around for three years myself to see this drastic change. My friendlist is dead, people don't talk to me anymore, None of these newbies know how to use their toons. It's just sickening.

I used to spam world chat just because people responded back and we'd have a nice convo or simple show some love. Standing at fb 19 caves used to be fun because people were always there. I don't even see questers anymore and that bothers me. Dunno if I should keep playing or just disappear.

Biggest thing that pissed me off is the prices....100k/gold to what...1.6mil now >.>? ****in bull**** greedy.(Sorry...)

The day I came back to see my BH51 squad(Mystic, 2 clerics, assassin and a barb) wipe on the first three mobs, before I even teleported in, was the day I realised just how ****ty this community has become.

Not really the players but the attitude of the game in general is pretty bad now. Its all rank this nirvana that frost blah blah. This game used to be so calming and fun to me, now its really stressful.

The people back then were nice... It's slightly depressing to see how the community has fallen to these depths. But its what you make of it really, If you let it irritate you so much just walk way for the game and take a break.

It's because being a total internet nerd suddenly became cool a few years ago... There are idiots all over the net now... I miss the time when the internet was still a hideout for outcast ppl trying to get their minds of the idiots they'd have to face on a daily base... Everything online was much friendlier back then... b:surrender

How long ago are you talking, because there's always been a holes on the net lol. Anywhere where there's people you're likely to run into some idiots sooner or later lol

Yeah i agree. I find it funny on how people can complain about prices of things when its the players whom originally set the prices for things. We have alot of bullies in this game that take pride in bullying smaller people than themselves to boost their ego's. Im talking about fish mainly. Im anti-fishb:surrender

Players are upset because most of the long term players know they are in a dying game and there is probably nothing PWE will do that will change that. Player-base is at an all time low and will probably only get worse.

I miss long talks with buddies about books, good old movies and music =3 Longest conversations I've had lately is( basically all ingame discussion if there is any ) is either centered around game mechanics, complaints, or lecturing a lv 90 on how to heal without geting aggro...

And zhen conversations were fun, Cleric's job used to be a "BB-up Comedian"

Also my favorite cupcake recipe was told to me in this game

I kin dof log on just to hear a song now. Stare at the 100% offline friendlist and log. There's no other grinder with these graphics and custom possibilities. I did play fw for a bit but that got old quick...

I just can't play any of those "chibi" toon grinders either..

I just can't play any of those "chibi" toon grinders either..

I tried fw also, its ok but its basically just a game of daily quests lol.sedYea other free mmorpgs still don't really measure up to this there's ~removed~. There good but none really have quite the charm of this game.

I do similar things that some have already stated. Log in, see the inactive Friends List and fly around watching world chat spam and madness. Considering my join date I should be higher leveled, but I was always interested in PWI for the adventure aspects I gained from it--especially when I did it with friends--never have I been overly concerned with leveling or having the best gear leveling.

I just want to find a decent higher level PVE faction to do things with like back when I started. I've done TW factions, and PVP isn't where my interests are at all.

Ah well, at least I can still log in and look at all of the cool scenery when I'm stressed, right? xD

+1 Yeah I agree. I've been playing just under 3 years, and I love this game, but I loved it more back then. Back then yes people were more helpful, cuz they had to be, there were no crazy aps and stuff like that back then. Now people just wanna solo everything, you don't need friends and factions anymore to help you with stuff. It's really sad that plvl exists, I hate it, people just rush to 100+ not knowing what it's like to earn your levels. Just yesterday I chatted to my brother (who also plays) and told him that a high level doesn't show much anymore, it doesn't show you worked really hard to earn that, by doing quests and grinding (did loads of that back then on cleavehands at 1k and those riders at wraith swamps) and omg zhening (did it with a bunch of buddies, was really cool). And then I also told him back then (let's see who remembers this) there was no quest log...you had to repeatedly press a button (was it Q?) which gave you just an npc name coordiantes...yes coordinates...you had to punch in the coordinates on the cooridnate assitant and track to you location - there was no autopath back then....*sigh* this game has gotten way toooo easy....back then it was nice to play and every success was a major victory cuz you worked your butt off for it and struggled (not in current PW didctionary)..... *sigh* b:surrender (and there was no autopathing to items you had to dig or find...you had to search for them or google the coordinates)

+1 Fully agree, the whole SP thing was like a STOP sign for old players that used to quest....really sad....b:sad I miss the old PW, that was super fun and relaxing (not a rush to get this and get that) to play

Agree. Now this game is already dead. It sad, but it's true. Developers have killed this game and there is nothing we can do about it. We can't change this situation. Except that. I wish we can, but... we can't.

I don't live in the United States and I don't watch TV. But gaming as a life style ?. There is your death of modern gaming "concept" as you know it. Turned to culture and burn into nothing. Felt it during 2006. I used to go to a lot of LAN Events/Parties. Crowd wasn't the same but then again I'm just getting on with my years. Gaming from hobby into culture. That is your death, right there. Oh like gardening its' a "lifestyle". Like going to night clubs -- its' a "lifestyle".

People still have their whinge about PWI and life goes on. I've had it with PW, I'm getting certain monetary share assets in 'your' lifestyle. Thought character was an investment, but it isn't a "real investment" its a cash drop. In some ways shares are but at least they pay up and pay back. Social chatter is what I could get from the pub or the bar and even LAN Parties have social chatter. Why do I need an MMORPG to tell me I have a life with style ?

Every guild I've been in has fine guild chats.

There are MUCH WORSE GAMING COMMUNITIES out there.

Anyone ever played League of Legends/DotA/Heroes of Newerth?

Any community will have it's rotten side, you can't help that, it happens regardless. You guys are exaggerating that side when you talk about PWI's community. The majority of PWI is fine.

PWI is legit the best gaming community I've seen, ever. I used to play ********* when I was like 9 (7 years ago) and scores of others since.

There's like a handful of world chatters on each server who can have bad attitudes, but just because it's world chat doesn't mean it seems like the entire server is like that which can sometimes seem like it.

I've been playing since 12-12-2008 and yeah, it was better back then but ONLY because there was at least 3x as many players as there is now. The quality of the people hasn't changed.

But yeah seriously, you can't say anything has a bad community till you've played LoL or DotA.

PWI's community is fine.
It's the game itself that's wrong.
