Guide: Whys and Hows of Managing Genie Gear

For many of us, our Genies are our right hands and just like we want to be able to rely on our hands, so should we be able to depend on our Genies. A well equipped, properly built genie with high level skills can double the damage to a foe. Well-might be a little bit of an exageration but you get the idea..
This thread will not go into genie builds or what skills are the best-everybody has their own ideas about that or will the longer they play the game. This is a very general guide on how to use gears to increase the attributes you need to help your Genie perform at it's best.
As your Genie learns skills, you will notice that each skill has a specific attribute that helps it perform it's function longer, stronger or more efficiently (move your cursor over the genie's skill to see what I mean)-these attributes are dexterity, strength, vitality and magic. The function of genie gears is to increase one or all of these attributes depending on your personal preferences.
Click on Summon Genie and Gear at the Watcher.
Gear production works exactly like gem or tome production-you start with a low gear and build up to a higher level of gear by creating enough of the lower gears so that you can create the next level, and so on...
Probably the biggest right out in the open secret regarding genies-you don't have to pay a million dollars for a level one gear. Not even for a level 3 gear. We have all seen Warsong Emblems for sale. They usually sell for 100-150K. You can buy 6 Warsong emblems and create one level 3 gear (mirror, orb, charm or jade): 1 Warsong Emblem gives you one orb (could be mirror, jade or charm but I will use orbs for my example).
Here's how it goes:
Use 1 Warsong Emblem to make a Level 1 Orb.
Repeat this process.
You now have 2 level one orbs.
Combine those 2 level one orbs and you will have one Level 2 orb
Total number of Warsong Emblems thus far: 2
Total cost approximately 200-300K for a Level 2 Orb (or jade, mirror...)
Now, repeat the above process twice more-you should now have 3 level 2 Orbs.
Use those 3 level 2 Orbs and combine into one Level 3 Orb
Total Warsong Emblems used: 6 Warsong Emblems, approx 600K-900K for a Level 3 Genie Gear
**ADDED 10/13/2012-Warsong Emblems can be bought in Catshops these days for as little as 25k**
OK. So now that we know how to make them, we of course arm our genies with our creations. One problem-once added to genie, it is bound. What if I want to upgrade it's gear, what do I do?
For a long time I wondered about that and about the meaning of the option in the Watcher's list called "Manage Genie Gear". Even posted a question but received no answers. With a little experimentation, I figured it out and thought I would share my findings with others with the same question.
The manage genie gear option at The Watcher of the Earth is a way to let you upgrade the gears that are already bound to your genie. Since once a gear is applied to your genie it cannot be removed or leveled up , this function lets you replace that bonded gear with higher ranked gear or gear that helps increase different attributes. Up side? Your genie is better armed whiich means you are too. Down side? The gear that was already bound to your genie is destroyed in the process.
Here's how it goes:
1. Option One-Following the instructions above, make higher leveled gear than the gear bound to your genie or
Option 2: Select the same class of gear as the one you want to replace (orb, mirror charm, jade) and select the attribute you want ( have a jade gear for dex but need strength?-replace the jade for dex with the jade for strength)
2. Select Manage Gear at the Watcher
3. Place your genie in box upper left hand corner
4. Select the gear you want to change
5. Put the new gear in the box across from the gear you want changed (note- because there are only 4 gear slots and each slot has a designated type of gear (i.e. charm, orb, jade, mirror) the new gear must be of same type but with either a higher grade/level or one that increases a different property of your genie, i.e. exchange mirror for dex for mirror for strength
5. Hit confirm and you're done. Welcome your new gear and wave bye-bye to the old.
Hope this was helpful and a little clearer than mud.[/SIZE][/SIZE][/SIZE][/FONT]b:pleased

Interesting guide. I honestly did not find out about those Warsong Embelms till I did my BH 100. I was never really into the genie gear I suppose.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Thank you so much ForsakenX for the sig b:cute0 -
Nice guide, Syn. Never really thought about genie gear myself. Sounds interesting from your description though.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

Nice write up Syn. I found it most useful, and now have lots more things to learn and play around with.0

Update:
As I level as a player I have found that. for me at least, gears are best used to add attribute points without actually allotting them as your genie levels -okay- I know-clear as mud.
Maybe best way is to use example-
Say that you want your genie to have really high dex because of the skills that you want but still need strength for power and, again, for some skills (You also have to decide what you want to put into vitality and magic).
Because I wanted more dex points than strength for my skills I stopped putting points into strength and put them into dex, vitality and magic then added strength gears to supplement the one/two skills that work better w/ more strength points. (This works for however you build your genie).
Remember that there are 4 gear slots. If you wanted, you could fill all 4 with gears for strength or vitality or magic or...you get the idea. So now, I have strength without having to sacrifice the other attributes
I ended up with a level 99 zeal genie with
strength 16
vitality 46
dex 50
mag 59
Have added 2 gears-jade +4 strength and mirror +4 strength
I will be filling the other gear slots but am still deciding what I need most
I know this is not for everyone but has worked well for me and is worth considering
One thing more-DO NOT buy gears from AH-way way overpriced when Warsong Emblems are so cheap- gears are built the same way you build shards and orbs at Watcher of the Earth (see above)
Good luck and have fun!0 -
It's a good guide - but can anyone explain WHY I would pay anything at all for genie gear? (Yes, I know it's less millions with warsong emblems, but it's still a lot)
It adds a tiny amount of stat to a genie; which doesn't seem to make very much difference at all.0 -

It adds a tiny amount of stat to a genie; which doesn't seem to make very much difference at all.
I put new gears on last night for another genie-put level 4s in each slot-looked at genie stats after-each attribute had increased by 4 points. For a skill that says each each dex/strength point doubles/increases effect, that's a nice bonus. Again-depends on how much you depend on your genie. Guide is just here for those who wonder what/how and now why of genie gears.
BTW-if you buy Warsong Emblems near the Watcher of the Earth, you will also pay too much-last night they were charging 150,000 to 500,000 for each. By the illusion stone in west Arch., bought emblems for 35k-45k per.0 -
Nice, just saved a lot on two level 4's. Shop right across from the watcher sold the emblems for 100k
Thanks![SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

You're welcome! Glad it helped
Oh-and meant to add-f you are willing to pay the price for 3 warsong medals-think going rate is roughly 1-3mil-you can get gears (under the tab badge in the manage genie gear window) that will let you add 2 types of attributes with one gear (+4dex and +4mag etc) Pretty pricey so not one I would recommend but is there if you desperately need0 -
Very belated but tyvm .
Also-if others know little tips/ideas regarding this topic, I am always up for learning something new.
Happy holidays everyone0 -

Looks pretty good to me. Good information. You have a couple bits of code to clean up towards the end. Possibly add in some colored headers for different sections and maybe do one last format clean up and you should be good to go. Feel free to use formatting ideas from my guide for ideas if you wish (links to in-game screenshots, stat tables, orb cost per gear, etc).
Great to see some activity from DW here on the forums. Happy Holidays b:victoryRing Engraving/Amulet Carving Guide - pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1174451
