OMG I am SOOOO ready to quite Cleric

Why? Well, people treat us like **** FRANKLY! I've noticed it more and more the higher my level gets. Maybe I'm just the unluckiest Cleric in PWI but I gotta say...I don't see any other class putting up with the kind of **** I do.
-My first time in Wraithgate I was with a squad of "pros" who were level 90+ who needed a Cleric and didn't speak English. Before I even knew what was going on they had pulled everything from the entrance to the first room and started shouting at me, "BB! BB!" By the time I got there it was too late and we all died. All I could understand in the chat was
"CLERIC ****!" b:angry
-Or how bout "HEAL ME," "RES ME," "BUFF ME!" Jeez would it kill you to say please and yea I know you're dead...I'M THE CLERIC!"
-How about this one: When you tell people you're more of a battle cleric then a full support and even though no body has died they get nervous that you're killing things and tell you "ONLY HEAL! DON'T KILL!" I suppose I'm to follow you around with a wipey in case you mess yourself?
-Maybe the latest one sounds familiar to you: No one EVER waits for you! Get Holy Path? YEA, I got it! I also have cloud eruption to fill my chi to BB for everyone who won't wait for me because it takes all my genie energy and I CAN'T HOLY PATH! I could duel people for chi but that would take them WAITING to pull the boss like 2 seconds and we just can't have that!
On top of all this; and I hope I don't offend anybody, WHAT THE HELL IS IT WITH EVERY MAJOR JERK I COME ACROSS BEING A SIN?!?!?
-There was the sin that went through FC and then kicked everyone before we got to the heads to steal the exp.
-Or the sin who unleashed a tirade of verbal abuse at me my first time in FC because I shared some of my concerns about my limitations with the group.
-How about the very well known 100+ sin that spent all day in SP (Raging tide SP has PKing right now) bullying the newbs just because he could.
-Or the sin that went with us into BH79 and went NUTS running trough all the mobs and laughing as everybody died as if she was on crack!b:shocked
-The sin that said, "BH79 FREE WINE!" And then charged us when we got there.
-My latest run in with a jerk sin was in TT 2-1. A level 101 sin came to "help" us and started running through it so fast I (banker) could not keep the mats straight but NOBODY could keep up. Of course no matter what we said or how we asked she would NOT SLOW DOWN and I had to kick her.
I could go on and on.
Yes, there ARE a small handful of sins that I know are good, considerate, kind people. The Marshal of my faction b:flower is a sin and she's one of the players I respect most in the game. The irony is the more I squad with her the more I see just how FAIL or JERK-ISH other sins are.
I have another sin friend I squad with that stays by me in case I get attacked when everyone ELSE I was talking about won't wait.
Or my friend; a sin, who played a cleric all the way till level 101 and I think it made him a better sin because he knows what we go through.
I have an alt I'm thinking of focusing on (wizard) but of every character I've played from the very beginning I have felt best and most like a cleric. b:sad I think if I have to give it up just because people treat us like **** I don't know if this game is worth it. The only other reason I can see to stay is for my faction who I am now the Director of...But that's a very VERY good reason.
I think even if I had to reserve my Cleric for just helping them I would still keep her. They are like a little family for me and sometimes they are the only thing that keeps me here.

Everyone you will ever meet has a different opinion on how clerics can/should be played and what they should be doing at each moment of the entire instance. The thing is, if you dont like what they are doing, let their ***** die, or at least threaten it, without a healer in the party they are likely looking at a squad wipe with no ressurects. Don't be afraid to flex your cleric muscles, if they need you they will listen to what you have to say, if they dont listen let them die, maybe a nice walk back to the dungeon will cool them off.
As for when you are just being carried through by a high level, you don't have much room for flexing since you are more or less just along for the ride.
And on the topic of jerks, there will always be some, and the reason they all seem to be sins is that people who are looking for an overpowered class tend to be the same people who will abuse that power or think that they dont have to listen to other people because they are more powerful. That and the fact that there are seemingly more people playing sin than the other classes means that if you do encounter someone and they are a jerk, it's more likely that they are a sin just because of sheer numbers. Don't let them break your stride and try when possible to play with people you know are decent human beings like that sin you mentioned.
Basically people need clerics but tend to walk all over them, stand up for yourself when you know you are a vital part of the team's success and party more with friends/guildmates and when you find a decent human being, friend them for future runs if possible. Hang in there, PW needs all the clerics it can get0 -
The sin class tends to draw jerks and idiots...
tl;dr, but a quick glace and I see this as more of a sins-are-butthoes-QQ thread than a I'm-not-respected-as-a-cleric thread. Sins are gonna be sins and jerkfaces are gonna be jerkfaces no matter where you go or who/what you are; irl or in cyberspace.Demon_Troll: "takes on the appearance of an innocent archer but turns into a mindless idiot once you hear him speak"

I second what Typhyse Said :P Most Sin you meet Act like their God just because they have Gears that maybe you could never hope to get. More or Less Sins can turn out to be a Hopeless Nerd just thinking that if he's on a game that HE can be the one pulling the strings and be the jerk. BTW im a Wiz in Stealth modeIts ok... IM AN ARTIST!0

*cleric stealth* Nope, still can't do it.
I actually had no online backbone until I started leveling a cleric. Good god do I have one now b:surrender
Just don't let them get to you and, like said before, squad with friends and factionmates for a while. (I did all my BH59s with friends after dying so much in random squads).b:cute The world may be small, but it is far from known.
Why the rage? It's a draining emotion.
Me: DaValentine (veno), Jaceraie (mystic), etc etc etc b:chuckle0 -
god i love clerics awww buffs thanks ........ how hard was that but are you that lucky??
well there are some of us left who will tell you how i liked the way u dropped a BB in FF big room on the boss then u say well im in BB you want me to do hands for u 2 (earthquake)
or that time my hp fell low and you lifted me up
or that time i didnt see that magic mob behind the pillar in 79 and u drop wing of protection on me and took the mob out
i could go on all day i love u clerics every one of you dont be disheartened we normal ppl are still here just harder to find lol0 -
Ok. For the squad where you could not understand in bh69, that was unavoidable. Communication is important...even moreso for a clerics first time in a dungeon.
Regarding the people who cry out rez, purify, heal, buff, etc... I have found that the best way to deal with that is to talk to them. Saying things like "I am healing. Trust me. I see all of your lifebars, I know what to do. I'm aware that you are dead. I will rez you as soon as I can...etc." tend to go a long ways and keep people from just trying to say just anything to you.
Admittingly, I can understand why people would feel apprehensive about a DD'ing cleric. Due to experiences with a lot of other clerics, they have adapted to it, and understood that often when a cleric is DD'ing, it means that they are not focused on their lifebars, and that worries them. Now for them to complain over any attack launched by you is absurd.
Now the one that I love...The people that don't wait. Well, if my holy path is on cooldown they are screwed and simply stuck with my 4.8 m/s speed to hope that I can heal them in time. If you can't wait for a cleric...then you can't wait for heals. Obviously, you must plan on healing yourself through genie or apoth. If you can't do that, then wait patiently on the ground until I get there. There isn't anything more that I can do at that point besides revive you. If they complain, then I tell them my running speed and then tell them theirs...then tell them that my holy path was on coolddown and that I can't heal if they don't wait. Normally people like to get the run done fast, but explaining that to them has helped me at least.
In regards to the sin jerkiness...I did find that to be true a lot more at lower levels. I've met jerks of most classes, but sins as jerks tend to be more in abundance than others. I agree with the above posters who stated that sins are more common than other characters so that is part of the reason. Plus, an aggressive type person is more likely to play an aggressive type character, so you will run into more jerky sins than other character types. Conversely, I've seen some really nice sins. In the end...its all about the individual behind the screen.
Ultimately, you HAVE to stand up for yourself. Add humor, add whatever to make it so that they respect both you and your abilities. I rarely encounter jerks as much nowadays, and I always squad with randoms. If you can talk to me polite, we'll get through it...if not...I'll lecture you to death if need be, then rez you from it afterwards. If it gets too bad, tell the squad that you're not going to put with this, good luck on your run, and that you're going to drop. Tends to wake people up. Lol.
Ultimately, play cleric if you still feel comfortable. If not switch. This is a game, so have fun with it."Male Player using female toon. Please don't flirt with me."

my sugestion is to find a nice faction to join and only squad with ur faction/friends. there wont be any problems if you avoid squading with randoms. when you join a squad you might wanna start talking to them idk make sure communication is there so there wont be any confusing between squad members. this can lead to failure. something like "i will buff when everyone is here" ect. but yeah best to jsut squad with faction members/friends. after 90 tho ff will become easier for you. maybe you are just unlucky with sins hence you only rant about them.
as for the dd ing even if you dont see their health goes down it could be that their charm is ticking. like i was in a fc on my bm today, my charm was ticking like crazy and the cleric was just dding and did aoe heal when i was the only one with agro.
but yeah hang in there, if you enjoy playing a cleric then just play it. it will get better0 -

I was in BH59 the other day on my Seeker and we had 2 Sins, one was pretty much the kind you describe. He was kamikazing everything and then Shadow Escaping when it got too hot for him, while the rest of the squad had to deal with his mess. He could barely type proper English.
He decided to 'Rush' Gluttonnix without explaining to the rest of us what he was planning. (Pulling all the mob to the center, then Shadow Escaping so the rest of us could run through quickly).
Instead of running through, we thought he was in trouble and tried to help, when the 20 or so mob came trundling back we had a virtual squad wipe.
After he did it one more time, even after we all told him not to, the other Sin Pmd me and said please kick that Sin out. Of course the Cleric had it worst because he had to run all the way back in and lost the most XP.
Anyways, I did kick that Sin out of the squad and everyone was much happier.
But back to the topic at hand, just be tough, if you are truly being unfairly mistreated, just kick out the offenders or leave the squad. Unfortunately, mixed in with the great players are a few awful ones. Avoid them and the game can be fun no matter what class you play.
And, yes if they don't wait for you, tell them at least a couple of times, then let them die if you aren't close enough to heal. It isn't your fault if the squad isn't playing as a team.0 -
I hear ya. My enjoyment of playing a cleric has slowly diminished as well. Part of the problem is that we live in an FCC world now where the odds of running into players that dont know how to play their characters has increased substantially....and where DD no longer seem to know (or care to learn) how to DD within the unique, and changing dynamics of each squad.
I am the type of person that will generally always see a tough situation through to the end, but I have no tolerance for abusive, disrespectful people. When I run into such people, I have no hesitation about leaving the squad. I dont like to use my role as a cleric to exert power over others but sometimes its nice knowing that they need YOU more than you need THEM. If they want to act like jerks, just remind them of this fact as you wave good bye b:pleased0 -

I agree with this post twice as hard, it's truthful and it's blue, two of the best qualities in a forum post0 -
I'm on your server and was lmao off reading your post, and not because I dont feel your pain, but because I can easily relate.
For those that shout orders at you, "I think I have a clue, thx" usually keeps them quiet for a bit.
For those that take a smidgen of damage and start complaining incessantly about dying...almost dying...etc..."You feeling dead or something?" also has the same effect.
The most effective approach Ive taken so far with verbally abusive players is at some point to say..."Fine - cyas" or better yet, saying nothing at all, and immediately quiting the squad. If YOU wined or anything dont dare do this, lol.
They will either call in a lvl 100 cleric that they know (cause that's what they expect any level with them to heal like) or you will immediately see that exclamation point inviting you back, with more than one PM asking why you left. How do I know? Because I am a Mystic on your server, and that's what I do, and the reactions I usually get.
And just incase you had the notion cross your mind - NO, I dont want to heal only!!!!b:angry
I to DD mostly, and be there to assist the cleric in the squad if needed.
There have been two essential squad components that have been hard to find on our server lately...
hardest to find is a barb.
second hardest to find is a CLERIC. Hey that's you! b:pleased
There is nothing at all wrong with listening to solid advice, but once its starts getting into the realm of emo-stupid, simply tell them to, "Cut the ****! Play your char & I'll play mine!"
Any tank that is worth his tiger stripes is going to concerned with where his healer is, and some will even act as more of an escort than something that your pokey self has to attempt to keep up with.
I usually find my pokey self coming in neck and neck for last place with the cleric, lol.
If they rush in without knowing whether a healer is with them or not - who is the fail there? b:chuckle
Stick with it if you love it. You have a lot of power in any squad, and especially now on our server.
Best wishes! b:victory
EDIT: I wouldn't suggest threatening anyone with death. What goes around comes around, and its not nice to hear - but mostly it gives anyone the right to say you are fail cleric, and rightly so.
Just leave the squad - they are already punished enough right there!
I dont understand the concept of a fighting cleric, although there are those that would tell me I am one.
My primary function is to DD always & heal when needed. Your primary function is to make sure the squad stays healthy always. If you do that one thing (healing) to the best of your ability, you are already a superstar.0 -
Thanks everyone for such great responses and understanding. I really do love being a cleric. I guess I am at the point where I just need to be more picky about who I squad with. I do try and communicate myself but honestly...we all know they never listen. For what it's worth, I have been sick lately and that day was particularly hard on me.
stress + sick = "I'M QUITTING CLERIC!" lol I hope to meet more kind, fun players on the server. Maybe you're one of them.0 -
It gets better. Well, until you start NV with 3.33 squads.
Welcome to the world of 5k hp sins who die in 2 hits, yet **** when their charm ticks. Sometimes you can't even heal them, since the boss ticks their charm in 1 hit so their hp doesn't move on the roster, then 2 hit KOs them before heal can even channel.
But of course, it's your fault. Has nothing to do with the fact that they have a +10 wep and +2 unsharded gear. b:chuckle0 -
The stuff they do is kinda funny but i agree with the first reply just let them die if they are being dicks that way you get the last laugh haha i just made a cleric its my first character cuz im new to the game but ive played clerics in almost every rpg ive played XD if what u say is true im gonna have fun pissin off people back lol XD0

im sad to say i have been a bad barb in my time killin the squad by accedent & on purpose & always apologised, but i always treated my cleric with respect.
with a nudge for a good friend i decided to play a cleric & got a feel of the rages because you cant res & bb at the same time.with common respect dwindling i keep to my guild i dont run with anyone else with my cleric. too many jerks around thinking that the cleric should constantly be healing, buffing them or resing them if they proove how idiotic they are by not watching thier own hp when the cleric is focused on the tanker.Antcy - inactive - HT

Honestly, Ive been tempted myself. But in the end its only a cleric cutting off their nose to spite their face - even if without a doubt they deserved it repeatedly.
And the last thing any cleric that loves playing their char wants is to be known as a cleric that will & has let their squads die. It's an EPIC fail move for any member of a healing class.
Everyone seems to know everyone else on Raging Tide. If you play your cleric well, everyone will know. And, if you let your squad spitefully die everyone will know.
Leaving the squad will also make them not think much of you - but they will eat it later on and invite you back.
I actually had one guy I had experienced a bad run with before say in the squad chat, "I wont say shat", lol. Which noone commented back on, and we had a good run.
The best revenge yet, imho. And like Karma - it came about naturally. b:laugh0 -

Yeah, even without sick in the mix, its easy to let the jerks bring you down. For me, its the jerks that think Im a substitute cleric.
There are honestly a lot of good people on the server, even some of the ones that dish out **** to you are doing so with good intentions in mind. Problem is, like with anything else in your life, the jerks are the one's that stand out in the forefront of anyone's mind. Kind of like goodness is easily forgotten or overshadowed.
If we run into each other great! I'd love to find a cleric I could run with regularly. b:pleased0 -
Personally, I wouldn't quit cleric, just because theyre a fun class... I power leveled one on another account because I wanna use it more than my higher level one on the same >.<
And even on my psychic, there were power leveled noobs that thought I could heal more than every 30 seconds, and res because all squshies can res right?.... -.-
People make me irk, just shows me how stupid the world is b:chuckle0 -

b:shocked Wow. That's just sad. Its bad enough that they can't tell the physical difference between an a cleric and a psychic. (Elf ears, and elf wings on hair plus magic weapon for clerics...and tideborn ears plus spheres for psychics. Then there are the little symbols that are on the side of each persons name indicating their respective class. Plus the obvious types of attacks, skills, and heals. I guess thats too much to ask and too much to hope for in realizing the difference between the two.
I guess I'm being to hard on them. Afterall, I didn't know that clerics could rez either...when I was level 13...and I also thought that Ironheart was a crappy heal...when I was level 15. Then again, I was low leveled back then, so that gives me an excuse. So what excuse do they hope to have at the levels that they are at now.
Honestly, I've never really cared how a person chooses to level, why they level, when they level, etc. However, I do ask that a person at least learn their class, and learn their craft if they do choose to level. They owe it to their team to at least do that much...and if they don't know it...then they owe it to their team to at least try to learn it, and to listen to GOOD advise...not ANY advise, but GOOD advise from others, so that they can do better and improve. No reason for a players at that level to not know the difference between a cleric and a psychic.
I'm guessing that they were probably whispering to each other wondering why you didn't put up BB after pulls, purify during the Bubble boss, Use wings of protection while pulling, and use RB on hands. Probably called you a FAIL CLERIC too...even though you're really a PSYCHIC. LMAO. That's just sad. b:shockedb:surrenderb:shocked"Male Player using female toon. Please don't flirt with me."

Two comments to the OP You're a "Battle Cleric"? You really should let people know that before they need you to heal them. Communication is important in any squad. If you don't speak the same language as the rest of the squad it will be more of a challenge, YA THINK?[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I've always said the player quality in this game would be a whole lot better if you had to play a cleric for a while first in order to "unlock" the other classes, course that'll never happen. My cleric was my second character, but is truly my favorite now. And yes, there is little appreciation, especially from the sins who think their BP makes a cleric useless. I've saved many with a well-timed wellspring and not heard I word. I think many times other classes are so focused on attacking that they don't even know how much healing the cleric is doing. Though I guess that is a sign of a good cleric.
Now my BH59 story: I was in a traditional squad, with a barb tanking, had my skills leveled up and decent gear, but the barb's health kept dropping, even when I spammed IH. We made it though Zimo and were at Ofo, but the barb wouldn't Fleshream so aggro kept switching. I managed to keep everyone alive. Then someone told the barb to use FR and he said, "I don't want aggro, the cleric can't keep me healed" So at that point I did BB and guess what... the barb's health still dropped lower and lower. I dropped BB and started spamming IH again and we just barely killed Ofo. At that point the barb was badmouthing me as a fail cleric. That's when I checked his gear and what armor he did have (yes, some pieces were MISSING) all were about 20 levels below his level and mostly 1 star white and blue. I pm'd a couple of the squad members to check his gear and they were like O.O so we all decided that we'd had enough for one run.
And one final thing for you to think about before you quit clericing... The main difference between a Cleric and a Veno is that a Cleric gets to take FIVE pets into a dungeon. There are 10 kinds of people in the world... those that understand binary and those that don't.b:chuckle0 -
