LoMA and HoTK Get "the Axe"

PWE made an announcement on Thursday, September 29, 2011 that they intend to close down two games, Legend of Martial Arts and Heroes of Three Kingdoms. This is after a long period of time in which those games have had little maintenance and no patched updates. HoTK and LoMA will officially be closed down on October 28th, 2011, at 3pm PST.

Here is a copy/paste of the form letter used to announce the closures:

"To our dear players,

It is with great heartbreak that we are announcing the game service closure of HoTK and LoMA. For all of us who have worked on these titles, it has been an amazing journey watching this title grow and interact with such a spirited community. Together, we tried our best to build a fantastic game experience, and for that, we thank you. You guys are truly the best!

Sadly though, all good things must come to an end and all servers will be permanently closed on October 28th at 3pm PST. Until then, we will continue to operate until the official server closures and to go out with a bang will have double exp permanently activated.

We will also offer special prize bundles for all current players who wish to try out other Perfect World Entertainment games. In addition, those who have made ZEN deposits to HOTK or LOMA, will receive a 1-time, 25% percentage of your total deposit refunded by visiting the page below. No additional ZEN deposits may be made to either of these games at this time.

    Owch.. I got to feel sorry for the people who pumped a whole load of Zen into those games. I was actually almsot drawn to HOT3K at one point.
    Just a suggestion, surely there should be a bit of Zen given back to players from those games? b:surrender just my few pennys..

    I have played HOTK for a while. It was quite fun, but I already saw it spiralling downwards when packs came out. So I quit when they did that. Gues I'm more glad then ever that I stopped playing it. b:surrender

    I played LoMA and HOTK both for like 5 minutes, then I was like... 'nope' and uninstalled again.

    On one side I'm happy PWE is pulling their act together and getting rid of their failed games, but on the other side... it's not like they've stopped releasing games. I guess BoI is next...

    They're refunding 25% of each person's total Zen put into the game.

    I noticed this "new" game as well, and at first thought they had just renamed it. However, upon further review, it seems to be either a new game or a re-tooled version of the older one.

    Makes me curious...

    Also, the fact that it hasn't been hyped up like any of the other games that are coming up (Rusty Hearts, Blacklight: Retribution, RaiderZ)

    Indeed. I only noticed this game by visiting http://www.pwrd.com a short while ago (which has a few other weird games listed there as well).

    At first I though it was just how the Chinese company refers to BoI (it is the site of the Chinese branch after all) but BoI was listed there too...

    From my sources, I ascertained that "War of Immortals" is supposed to be something like a sequel to "Battle of Immortals". Interesting...

    Seems like they could have added this as an expansion to BoI if you ask me...


    Though, they advertise the game to be using the Cube engine? (nice free game by the way, try it b:chuckle )

    They focus on quantity not quality. I think they have found that they can make tons more cash by copy and pasting a game, then changing just enough to call it a new game. Instead of players spending a little more on an expanded game they have to buy everything all over again on "new" game.

    Well, Heroes of the Three Kingdoms wasn't as advertised or taken care of as much as PWE's other games. As for LoMA, I entirely forgot it was there in the first place b:chuckle. At least PWE is compensating with a Zen refund, wasn't expecting that.

    BoI could very well be next, although it's more popular than these other 2 titles that are being closed down. No point in having 2 games at the same time if one is a sequel of the other. Maybe it was easier to make a new game instead of creating such a large expansion for the previously existing one.

    In reference to WoI:
    Since there's been a lot of concern regarding the new War of the Immortals game, I had a talk with the Product Manager and asked him to provide everyone with some information. Here is a letter directly from the PM of BoI that addresses some of the issues that you may be wondering about. And now... A letter from the PM...


    Dear Champions of Atlantis,

    The recent announcement of War of the Immortals has brought up some player concerns regarding the continued existence of Battle of the Immortals. I have come to you to let you know that Battle of the Immortals will continue and grow alongside War of the Immortals. You may be asking yourself, How is that possible? I will be outlining a few points on what to expect and why you should be excited in the coming months.

    First of all, Battle of the Immortals will be having a massive content update that is being officially announced in this letter. It is an expansion pack that will not disappoint the dedicated fans of BoI. Not only that, the game will continue to be supported, meaning new quests, mechanics, items, patches, GMs, and everything else that keeps the game running, including myself. There will also be a new program that will reward the dedicated players of BoI with special and exclusive items in War of the Immortals if they wish to play. So if a player reaches a certain level or milestone in BoI, they can opt to receive something for their character on WoI. We consider this an incentive program to continue playing AND to try out WoI. Additional details about this program will be posted in the near future.

    But why continue playing BoI if WoI is coming out and whats the difference? The War of the Immortals storyline will branch away from the current storyline in Battle of the Immortals. This will give each player a different experience between the two games. BoI will have a more single player based experience while WoI will have more of an emphasis on the guild experience.

    Finally, with all that said. Character transfers will not be possible between Battle of the Immortals to War of the Immortals. This is due to the fact that the two games are completely different. This is where the new program will come into play to tie the two games together. Doing it this way will allow Battle of the Immortals to continue to exist and allow War of the Immortals to grow a player community with a fresh start.

    i was playing HOTK and LOMA and playing BOI uninstalling now and getting another's company legal licenced LOMA HOTK and WOI and getting PW fro another company too since this company ssems to be shuttted down according to aal the things hapening XD i hope my friends follow me of not then i am a an addict and try a terapy b:laughb:surrender didnt named any other competitor so i didnt went against SOT or rules of forum b:laugh
