I've been thinking on starting this thread a while ago...I just dunno why this whole community lost it's personal side. Remember back when this community was so close and doing something with other players was better then "doing it alone, cuz alone means all for myself", when this game was meant to be fun.

Ok, so I'm starting here, my name is Joe, as you can see I named my BM just like that and I'm from Germany. I joined Perfect World International on February 2009 when that version was nearly similiar to PW-MS and stuffs and it was my first online game. And to be honest I'd tried out nearly all possible F2P and P2P games, but I always returned here and even in this screwed up time it's still better playing PWI then anything else.

I played any possible class to 100+ or at least 90+, farmed loads of money inb this game and spent quite a bit on it, too. Tried anything out, did any instance you can do and I did solo anything you possibly can and thats the main reason why I miss the older time. Did we just all got greedy just liek the devs. I find it hard to help someone even thought I do it mostly, just because I cant get the thought out of my head that I could farm so much money instead of helping and I feel bad that it is like it is.

I rly think that the community has to change and it could despite all those r9 HardCore Csers and the "Just-For-Fun-QQers" aso. and all the other problems PWI has to face everyday.

So what about you guys, do you miss those times too, did you just evolve like me being an greedy as.s sometimes =? You might as well introduce yourself as I think that we had no player-introduction thread since well...PWI started.

Feel free to post anything thats on your heart here =) (Mods and GM's are welcomed too b:cute)

I miss the hard-core questing with friends, where the skilled mentors the unskilled... Where it was a team effort to take down a full-instance and where the drops were enough to give everyone a decent share.

I miss traveling across the map and seeing small ones farming or grinding and stopping to buff them, assist them and chat a bit. Now, you have to fly almost 1/4th of the map to find one person actually questing or farming.

Much of the PWI map no longer has any real purpose... and if so, it is merely a stop over while you complete your cultis or a bit of land to fly over on your way to FC, Nirvana or TT.

The focus of the game has changed, but the essence of the game has not.

I most of all miss being in a guild with so many low-levels, and each of us helping to farm, grind and quest our days out. But now, with the quick leveling, this is so short lived.

I remember the team work of killing the bigger culti bosses and sitting by the BM taking a breather, talking about wow that boss hit hard but we did it... and basically shooting the breeze before we moved on to the next culti boss - for our small fellow guildie, and ticking off the mental list of how many more we had to assit, run fbs for and such.

Our days were filled up, and it was fun. I also miss how fashion used to be a thing you wore on the streets, and during pvp or instances and even TW - you very proudly displayed your armor as you battled.

The game is amazing, but I think it's focus has changed..

I've actually made small ones and are questing/grinding them up because I miss it so much. And here and there you see others doing the same. I do not use my main to help them and I find that people that hated me, this sin - oddly when I bumped into them on my baby alt, they were kind, helpful and ... well... I saw them in a new light.

I think that is the one thing that has remained the same, that many DO stop to help small ones in the game, even w/o me asking I get buffed, squaded, assisted.

I don't know what the answer is, maybe that rests on us.

Edited In: But I am on my tiny alts, leveling old school, not CSing on them and not using my main to help them unless I cannot find help for what ever reason. And ... I am actually having real fun again.

Yeah I agreed with you, it was so much fun helping others out back then, doing fbs and stuffs for them and the best thing was when they were so extremely happy that their fb was finally done. Maybe you find helpful ppl here and there but I think being that much grateful when being helped is very uncommen these days, guess most ppl see it as "given" or something but yeah, I miss it so much xD Now it's just all about farming farming farming...no one rly cared if you got goo dgears then but if you actually had then you could be proud of and many ppl that saw you were like "WOW, OMG look at this epic gear, this guy must be unbeatable" and that wasn't r8 or r9 gear =P

I agree Joe, the community is losing the battle of integrity. It has fallen prey to the greed that is systemic in the game. It should be a simple matter for people to ignore the 'insert game breaking pet peeve here' and play the game the way we did when the servers were new. But when some of the server population takes advantage of the 'insert game breaking pet peeve here' there are sure to be people that see how advantageous the 'insert game breaking pet peeve here' was for the players who make use of it and to follow suit.

It doesn't help when the game 'authorities' are throwing so many 'insert game breaking pet peeve here' at people that it feels like you're standing in a locust swarm.

Integrity... when you have it and very few others seem to it can be tough on you.

Just remember though, when this game is over and the servers are shut down (it will come one day, eventually) the people who maintained their integrity will be able to look back on this game with nostalgic fondness equal to or exceeding the nostalgic sadness they are currently experiencing.

While those who didn't maintain their integrity may find themselves looking back on this game with a significantly diminished sense of getting the most for their time/effort/money.

When I started the game I never found a good squad with decent players. When I rember back, not many people had the player skill to do everything perfect but somehow we still made it lol. (Once we had a squad x.x - Took ages sometimes)
First Rebirths Gamma <3. I made a Level 85 Barb just to remind "Old Times" and tank Gamma lol.
I had alot of fun when I leveld with Rebirth Gamma and Delta. Now 95% of people (level 100+ !!!) didn't even finish a delta so far.

I feel the same way Joe. Although I joined in October 2008, I only really started going on the forums as a regular poster in summer 2010 so I didn't get to see much of the community here.

However, in-game, I remember the community being wonderful. People were nicer, had more patience, would accept your help and constructive critism. People didn't try to show off as much as to actually enjoy the game with what they have.

I remember doing full Venomancer squads to run TT1-1. All (or half) would be healing one's pet and complete the run. In the meantime we would chat, role play, joke and have fun. In the end it didn't matter how many shiny things we had, it matter who we were at heart and what things we did together.

Sadly, back in autumn 2010 I fell into the same trap. It was after I had taken a 6 month break (irl issues) and my irl friends had left (irl issues again) while other online friends had left as well for other issues. I found myself alone and that's when I started become greedy, charging more zen that I should, trying to get on the top and compete with the rest. However, I'm glad that I eventually "woke up" and especially thanks to my new guild I've gone back to actually enjoying playing the game. I'm working for my goals at a slow pace, besides if you run out of goals...you run out of reasons to play!

The company is at fault for setting up all these sales that caught the eye of the greedy people or those full of ego which resulted in more people becoming greedy and in the end the community was driven into what it is now. However, the player base is to be blamed as well. Those with weak will fell into this big trap. I'm not ashamed I, too, fell in it but I have escaped from it. I wish people could realise this as well.

I also GMs running around, chilling at west arch, random world chatting, parading the new boutique items (when it was just mounts, flyers, or fash)
Oh how I miss that. I still remember (and probably even have screenshots) of their daily "A new day rises upon us...." or something like that. You could feel the presence of the GMs.

Also anybody remembers when a GM said in red letters "LF GM for TT900" b:chuckle it was for April Fools. Then some player said something in worldchat and the GM actually responded!

I miss actually having to work for what you wanted to have, as in, the entire guild going on squads to help farm the HH gear for its members.

That was easier when leveling was hard, because you knew you were going for gear that was going to last at least a month, and also, nobody had alts, so, one gear set per person, and every gear set lasts ages.

Also, I miss grinding, like, seriously mass grinding, like I did yesterday, farmed 666 DQ items (Stopped because I got summoned to an instance where my know-how was needed)

And I miss my grinding buddies, it was awesome to be able to say, "Hey, lets grind" and the other person going "YAY!", watching eachother's back and owning for a while, and then, "Any cleric near xxxxxx city? We need a res".

I don't know where I stand with anyone in this game. The game was different when I started in May 2010. I was just a blademaster, wanting to join up with a friend from another forum, who eventually stopped playing anyway. I quit BM at 17, and then I made a psychic. I was in the wrong faction for a bit and because of this, I made a venomancer, got a herc and solo'd everything for myself. I met a cleric along the way and we were good friends til I was 86.

I was mostly by myself and then I dropped my veno at 98. Made a seeker when genesis came out and stuck with it ever since.

I don't know about trolly or unpersonal..lonely yeah. *shrugs*

EDIT: I love playing the game because it offers things past MMO's I've played do not offer. I have many characters and I play on all of them. I play this game and I like playing it. I don't like the general attitude of the players, but that doesn't stop me from playing the game and liking it.

    hi there,

    im from germany too,

and i play like you since february 2009 and played all characters about lvl 60+

    ^^

    yey sanctuary ftw!!!

but i like the idea to being more and more capable of doing everything by myself!
i dont think i will ever find true friends online and dont search for some, although it would be fun to do everything with someone together and noone else *dreams*

but there would be allways the question about trust (see my sig, i dont do it b:chuckle)

if i need help or am too tired to do things all by myself, i can just ask my factions, those are ALL awsome, so many ppl still offering help without paying them for every little thing,

i see those times comming where you have to pay for getting help to get a boss killed, since you have already pay for wine, barb repairs, TT heads and so on and so on...

the gameplay sucks for real, so everyone do everything by themselves now,
and it will never get better,

the real fun now is actually not to play but to get EVERYTHING you can,
    sad but true

so then maybe see ya around in our server

*walks away and chase after fashion and mounts lol*
Some Rules each PWI Gamer should know
    1. Dont break this rules & no matter what: DONT TRUST ANYONE!
    2. Dont pay wine or heads fee (like to get kicked after that?) b:chuckle
    3. Dont borrow items (since when return gms scammed stuff?) b:embarrass
    4. Dont use your password in faction-forums (like hacks?) b:fatb
    5. Dont give your mats to the tt-banker (obvious, not?) b:beg

I believe PWI suffers from an invasion of "fast-food" players.

Everything must be fast, bh must be fast, levelling must be fast, R9 must be handed to you on a silver plate at your CC order.

Noone cares about questing, or Zhen parties anymore. Hell, even in bh, you either can't find a squad, or if you do and there's no lvl 100+ to solo all the stuff people don't want to do it.

I was in a squad recently on and alt ( 79 cleric ) and during BH 59 on every single boss people wanted me to BB. And that was the only time they even said anything, really.

If you don't like to interact, to cooperate with others, why do you play a MMO?

I agree with Kral... get coin is your major target on this game. But you do need coin in any game :)

I started in earlyish 2009, Joined all servers at once, made a bunch of chars on each, and just tried out things till I found what I liked. I have switched servers a few times but ended up here on Sanc, mostly because of the cool people I met after spending some time here in the weeks right after the TB expansion(most of which have quit).
Yes, I also started out very help-oriented. Basically what I mean by this is I was the person always volunteering in fac chat when people wanted help, made a lot of friends, gathered a very good reputation in many of my factions(for always helping people and being friendly).

But you know these days I do not go out of my way like I used to. I mostly just turn off fac chat and farm with a close friend, trying to make some money in this game. And you know what, I'm not exactly sorry about it either. The whole time I was doing TT's for people, letting them keep mats to make their gear, helping randomly whenever I can, putting off my own things to help..if I ever needed something, no one would return the damn favor. I helped many people get their TT gears, and you know what? I ended up having to solo grind to make the money to buy my own TT90. Luckily for the gear I'm working on now, I'm having help from a few really awesome people, but I wouldn't expect any more than this few to readily help me. And these days I find that if I help noobs too much they tend to either try to beg from me or spam me whenever they need a bh done. So I'm over it I suppose b:shocked

other than trying random servers, I'm pretty much in the same boat. Except, I'm in a faction where people help me farm gear, which I need right now.

I've always been around people willing to help, and always been willing to help people... But over time, it seems to diminish. Eventually, I'll leave again. This time I'm gonna delete everything though. >_>

Well, I'm an old timer too. Don't trust my avatar, I actually joined january 2009 lol Been here on the forums for ages, but on another char.

As I see it, game has changed a lot. There's faster ways to level, new content, so much going on. But also the people have changed. People more and more expect stuff to be handed over to them. Level 100 in 3 days, sure.
I've seen it happen even before the level craziness. People simply charged zen, bought the gears they needed and 2 days later they say they are bored.

I never was a person that wanted to hit the maximum as fast as possible. I admit, at some point I was going fast too, especially after fcc became popular and it got soo easy to level new chars. But I figured it's not what I want to do. My main is this veno and I worked on her lots. I'm still way from being on a niveau with cash shoppers but who cares. I worked for my rank8, herc and nix. I did all my cultis and got my celestial sage. And I enjoyed it.

I don't see the need to rush to 100. Actually I took a step back. I mostly play my veno but I'm working on alts too. Got a mystic that's 94 by now, a bm at 96. I could be 102 by now but what for? I rather take my time, get the gear I want and have fun with friends. Teamplay is so much more fun than fcc all day.

I guess people ruined the game for themselves. They get to 100, then wonder what's to do. Reminds me of something Jeremied got in his signature: A journey is measured in friends, not in jewels. That's pwi for me. Friends and having fun.
Not the endless QQ about everything on forums, not power leveling like an idiot, and not some funny sale of r9 stuff.
To add to that, I lately saw a reportage about another free to play game. It basically came down to the fact that a fp2's forum population says absolutely nothing about the real games state. Very very interesting watch but can't like it here since competetive mmo.

Ok I'm gonna end this with a big thanks to all the friends that keep me here and make this game fun with all the amazing content there is <3

And whut, I'm the 4th German in this thread? xD

It then dawned upon my old bones that this could be my sanctuary, a home in which my heart feels welcomed, an experience to never be forgotten. I met brave heroes, luscious enchantresses and...mysterious old men.

We've established settlements for the weak, trained them in sword and sworcery, merlined our mages and chucknorrissed our warriors. Thus we became factions, hellbent on conquering lands weekly for gold and epic vestments of war.

Once upon a time...once upon a time...once upon a time a chinese dragon was born, by the name of Wanmei. And from there, my dearest lecturers, it all dramatically went to shiit. lol

We've established settlements for the weak, trained them in sword and sworcery.....

Now PWI gets so many players power leveling to 100+, I think the only thing they have mastered is aiming the pointy end of the weapon outwards.....

My experience here started in October 2008. I installed one night on my own initiative in order to join my future RL fiance, who had been introduced to the game a week or two prior. Eventually we had a circle of five or six players who we would always squad with throughout the 20s (even when we weren't questing). I remember doing my fb19 with them... we were all in our late 20s and half of us didn't know what we were doing (nobody told our cleric that IH was better than pureheart, for instance), and yet we did it anyway. Those were the days I miss the most.

Eventually those other friends all lost interest, leaving just myself and the lady playing. We're still here despite everything. XD

Well yeah, they're "fast food" players, but the problem is that PWE gave them fast food. Addictions don't come out of nowhere. -_- Once 5aps and r8 were obtainable, that was it. Everyone had been spoiled by this new standard, and now anyone who doesn't fall in line like a good little sheep is deemed a fool. That's the kind of game we have now.

I have trouble believing you can never find a decent BH59 squad on a heavily-populated server like Sanctuary, though. o.O Almost any class can tank that instance (except maybe sins) under IH alone. Also, why are you doing every single boss? XD

Yes, I'm still a stubborn holdout in favor of the old game. Haters gonna hate. ;]

    Other Active Characters:
LigerKing (Barb), Girasole (BM), Shamsheer (Sin), ArborSoul (Mystic).

I loved this game so much when I first started playing. It's just gone to hell with rank 9 gear, 5 APS, power leveling, foul mouth WC drama queens, Baruuna...b:chuckle. Everyone is too busy in FF and Nirvana runs to help you or just quest for fun. I'll be sad when the game finally comes to an end. b:surrender

    Haha..

I truly miss the old times here on pwi. Granted, I did ran into some people that were not really...I guess the best of human beings (lol) but well it's the interwebs. I used to have a veno named X_Castgurl_X on DW, started around 2009.

    I'll tell ya one thing

I WOOOOORKED my freaking AAASSSS OFF on that character like no freaking tomorrow lol!

Went from trying to make her a she-warrior carrying a axe and **** to a 'back then' op LA mage (lmfao at that one) and then finally creating that same character to a decent, tough pure magic veno. I loved helping the peeps in the guilds I was in on that character. Even BEFORE I got that yellow pug of omega fatness, people from guilds would be impressed by how well I played my class. Well I spend a lot of time on her. Even during the sin craze launch, I stuck by that character. But meh, things have changed. I even tried rerolling my same veno on RT due to a certain someone being a freaking stalking emo (if that person still plays then roflmao WOW) and also due to a particular guild that burned in the f'n hole of raging troll flames while I was visiting my family in Cuba. (har)

    But yeah.

The people were different back then. Yeah, it was hard as bowling balls to reach a level, you had to spam WQ everyday and actually DO the quests that were given. But that made peeps join up. One needed help with a boss, 5 of us would go and help..then fail...call on a level 7x...fail again...nag...repeat. It was FUN. Challenging. ENGAGING.

TWs were actually THOSE 3 THINGS BACK THEN. I mean they are now (somewhat) but really...now you have a bunch of rank blah **** blah bms, aps, sins, aps OH and it's not like you can make your character, barb, sin, cleric into a build that YOU think fits YOU. You HAVE to make it into what the so called "ops" said it's right or "good". There's really no uniqueness anymore. I see the same **** every time (the FEW times) I log into this game. aps this, barb with blah...need this and this for fc, fc and OMFGLOLG, fc! Oh and power leveling...sooo fun (ha..) wc: "WHERE THE F ARE THE BARBS??" sins and whatever can hold claws solo'n stuff in what...10-20 seconds maybe? and more = less than that?

    -Breathes-

OKAY! Sorry had to get that out from me, let's get back to whatever the freaking hell I was going to type.
To cut this short (and maybe (?) MAYBE avoid flaming trolls of epixNABness) I miss being 'truly' useful on my veno. Solo'n TTs made venos just a tab bit more special. Just a tad. Now everyone and their aunt, uncle Shomamabish, grandmama ann can drop hm...200$ (?) (Don't know the exact amount you would need to at least spark 5.0 sorry lol) and do that even faster, like "autoattack, come back 5 secs later, boredom" faster. Peeps have gotten greedier and well - just log in and see for yourself (those that were here since 08-09) It's not completely a bad thing, but wow look at this gem now...rusted as hell.

OH YEAH! Before I dip outta here let me introduce myself(ish) ~

I'm Cynthia. Animator and 2D/Traditional artist irl and enjoys everything in life including mmos (as you can see lol) =) "Castgurl" was a nickname I picked up for myself back in High school..."Cast" is the first half of my last name. I'll stop there lol.

    <---

I've been in APS squads, but never joined one intentionally over another squad.

I've left squads with APS people simply because they failed and couldn't tank/keep aggro/survive. I've also left non APS groups for the same.
