Taming Question

Some monsters have extra effects on them, like increased movement speed, increased defence, etc. I have two questions:
1. What is sacrificial assault? Do they just have less HP and hit harder?
2. When you tame a monster, does it keep the effect once tamed or does it just revert back to a normal statted one? e.g. If I tamed one with increased HP, would it keep the extra HP?
Thanks.

Far as I know, a sacrificial assault indeed has more attack but less hp. I never really noticed anything diff about them besides that
And (unfortunately) the stat like increased life won't stay :<[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Aw, that sucks. :P Thanks for your reply.
I have one other question:
I read that when you level a pet yourself it is stronger than if you just catch a high level pet. Because of this, technically wouldn't the pet you start with (the wolfing in my case) be the strongest pet you could get? :S I ask because I keep capturing new pets but my wolfling has better stats in almost all aspects. For example, I caught the Ebony Hellduke (Seamonster Guardian) which, (according to this guide: http://pwi-wiki.perfectworld.com/index.php/Ultimate_Pet_List) has a higher attack than most at that level. However, comparing it to my wolfling, it is equal or worse in all aspects, and is only 2 levels below the wolfling.
I also captured a glacial walker since those seem to be recommended by most, but this is how it compares to the wolfling:
accuracy is half (-200~)
attack is slightly better (+30)
attack rate is less (-0.2)
physical resistance slightly better (+200~)
magical resistance worse (-200~)
evasion worse (-100~)
hp only slightly better (+50~)
So I'm not sure what to do. :S0 -
pets you level up tend to be more powerful than pets of the same general type that you catch later. but there are big differences between types that can negate this, and make it worth catching new pets later.
also, different pets --- especially of different types --- can have different growth curves, such that an initially worse pet ends up overtaking an initially better one. comparing a freshly-caught level-X pet to a different level-X pet you've already put twenty levels on won't necessarily tell you the full story.
plus, of course, the hassle of leveling a pet up can be such that you deem it better to catch a higher-level pet later, too. it depends.
...that said, i notice that of the pets i use regularly and keep leveled with me the eldergoth had the highest starting level, at 41. my main tank and DDs i've had since they were level 19, 9, and 22...
the starter wolfling does get pretty good later on; its main weakness is a shortage of skills. if you were willing to buy a bash and maybe tough for it, at a minimum, and level those skills up, it could be pretty formidable. not as good a tank as the glacial walker, and not as good a DD as the dark wanderer or scorpion, but by no means a bad pet. i kept mine until level 40-something, still have the egg somewhere.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0 -

Thanks for this reply, it was very helpful.
I ended up abandoning my wolfling as a level 22 and getting the Dark Wanderer and Ebony Hellduke to level as damage dealers. I went and got the glacial walker too, since I'll probably need a tank later on.0 -
There's a Pet Simulator at Ecatomb's site which is useful for comparing common pets at different levels.
Personally, if you can't afford the legendary pets, I'd recommend getting a Glacial Walker (level 19) for a tank, an Eldergoth Marksman (level 41) for a ranged tank/puller (handy with ranged magic bosses too if you only use his ranged attack), a Petite Sawfly (level 8) for a flying pet (good DPS; a rare Windwalking Piggy is a better tank, but usually unnecessary and about 2/3rds the DPS), and for a water pet either tame as you go or an Abysmal Turtle (level 5) if you don't mind grinding to level it up (the level 80 Celestial Plumpfish is nearly as good).[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
