If the other player is a guy they will continue the conversation like nothing happened.

If they are a female they will be offended and will let you know it.

Though I am a guy. The dead give away is probably the face. Most of my work is done on the eyes only.

My character looks nothing like me irl.... I find it really hard to model characters after rl ppl.
So I just use my imagination xD

in my experince anyways most males could give a flip about fashion, and generally have one.. Very skimpy outfit, which in most cases does not even match. They seems to mostly use presets without a lot of time spent editing other then to max out the boob scale.

Where as most women tend to spend a lot of time on there characters appearances, editing every little detail. there clothing while some may dress trashy most of the time will match. Me personally I have spent at least an hour on every character I have even my shops have been edited to look nice. I do not have a lot of fashion but its dyed to match, mostly long gowns as i do not like looking like a cheap corner walker.

My ways of guessing are
Trashy outfit
Clothing not matched
Boob Scale Maxed
Unmodified preset or REALLY Ugly

That being said i do not really care either way if someone is male or female

LOL That one had me confused too. Like, if the character is ugly and doesn't like putting herself together to look cute it's probably a girl? Whattt? I dunno. I know a lot if girls playing girls (I know theyre girls ) and their characters are.... Not perfect. Clearly customised and trying to look cute, but they fail. Whereas my own characters look beutiful and dont have any defaults / massive bewbs.

Additionally most of the girls stick to a few sets of fashion wheras I use quite a large range of it...

I've been flirted with so many times it's not funny anymore. =P Fairly small proportions, small bewbs, pretty face, and a pirate set to die for (it was a gift, seriously!).

There is NO fool proof way to tell if the person behind the pixels is a dude, unless they outright tell you : "You know I'm a guy, right?"

You are what I call a metro gamer, a guy who takes care of his toon better than some girls, b:chuckle LOL JK. Like I said only about 7 times out of ten and I know plenty of guys like that too btw.

My 1st char ever here though was a veno cause I was a animal tamer in "another MMO" and it's the only class that was doing so at the time I joined. I soon dicthed her though because I was bothered by remarks. She (my char) didn't have anything special, not even fashion. I just use her as storage now.

13 months ago , I met a cleric in game, female. She was all gentle and such and I wasn't 100% sure at first. Till we talked on vent. Then it went much further. Msn + webcam and phone calls while we played together. So I had no doubt she was really a lady. Kinda hard for a lady that speaks on the phone to relate to everything happeneing in game if she isn't really the one contyroling the char. Like "buffs ran out, let me rebuff" and buffs 1/2 sec later.

Anyway, this ain't a dating site, it's a video game. relationships can happen but if you are not sure who you are really talking to, well..

- Vent/Mic/Skype as stated is a good place to start.

- Calling the person is another good way to verify

- Video chat on msn/webcam is as best clue u can get.

Ladies in game also seem to (like Venus said) overuse emoticons. (roses and such and the famous ^^).

To return on the main topic, why bother to know if it's a guy or a girl in front of you? I treat people the same in a MMO (age, gender, country of origin, religion... who cares? A game's primary function is to have fun and to pass the time -yes, even if companies are businesses, cash cash cash cash-... too many seem to have forgotten about it). Behavior comes first in my book, as in if one tries to annoy me out of the blue, I shower him/her with sarcasm or go for the ignore option (and at worst, I use proofs for later reporting. No one trifles with yours truly and gets away with it).

Those who flirt may not be a big problem, unless it's about some motive (either getting coins and items from another or account stealing). I really am not into relationships in games and I witness them from very afar... and I am glad no one is bothering me about it.

So... To guess if one's a girl or boy in reality... if this amuses you. It's more of a chore to me, so I don't bother trying.
