Sages and PvP

I keep hearing that if I want to PvP in the future I should go demon for the insane crits. I am going to PvP, but I was hoping to go sage, and I am wondering, do sage barbs are effective on PvP, such as 1v1, if geared well? I know sages are def/HP however I do see some buffs and skills on sages that increase overall damage they deal. b:pleased
