It has nothing to do with PerfectWorld performance or because of exploiters or because of a ****ty UI or because the game has a low population.
Before I downloaded perfect world, hell before I even jumped into my first MMO, way back when, I had thoughts of grandeur. I told myself I'm going to be best PvPer. The strongest swordsman. I'll be invincible. Nobody will touch me. And throughout my MMO career, I would build up a character and then get bored and quit. From WoW to RYL to EVE. I never really wondered why. But I always found something to ***** about. It was either the grinding of XP or the grinding of mats to craft armor and then the grinding of crafting armor to get 1337 armor.
Last night after getting ganked 4 times over a span of an hour and losing some of my stuff, I realized something. I probably will never be that great PvPer I always thought I'd be. I got discouraged. I started to blame the game. The grind was too much. It's gotta be faster. And then I realized something else. I wasn't being honest with myself. I was always told the only way to get to the top is through hard work, making the right connections and being smart. But I'm lazy. I don't want to do all that to get to the top. I want to snap my fingers and instantly be there.
Why do we all play MMO's? Whats the driving factor that makes us want to play MMO's over single player games? Its the possibility of being King of the Lands, Emperor of the World, Master Crafter or Grand Master Swordsman. Everybody wants to be at the top, but very few have the dedication, brains and connections to get there. Even if a player had none of those qualitys, it would take something extraordinary for an ordinary person to become extraordinary.
World of ******** is a good example to use here. Through it's clever marketing and carefully chosen verbage it makes people believe that they can and will be Masters of the game. But look at its 11mill players and tell me what names stand out. Everybody in that game can get to 85, fewer can get top-tier gear and much much fewer will earn the respect of fellow WoW players.
This also happens in the real world too. People will tell you that anybody can be president of the USA. Anybody can be CEO of IBM or Cisco or Blizzard. That everybody has an equal chance. This is a lie. A lie to prepare your mind and soul for the harsh reality that you will eventually realize.
That reality is that nobody has an equal chance versus everyone else. Not everybody has equal intelligence or strength or knowledge.
There are two types of people on this planet. The ones that will work hard to get to the top and the ones that don't have the ability to get there and instead of putting effort into, they complain that the winners cheated their way to the top. They were given an unfair advantage through family contributions. etc etc etc.
And the whole time while the whiners are calling for bans and investigations into how someone got to the top, the winners are out doing what they do best: winning.
When people talk about their "dreams" of the perfect MMO, one with full loot and open PvP, like Darkfall. What they really mean is their dreams of wtfpwning and stealing your **** at will. Their dreams is of owning everyone. Being the best.
But just like real life, as soon as you login for the first time and get rid of your newbie protection, it presents to you an extremely harsh reality: you will have a very slim chance of making it to the top and if you do, it will not come easy. You will make sacrifices. You will die a lot and you will be looted like a common *****. PW is not an easy world to live in. Everybody wants your blood, even if you have none to be taken anymore.
So to the forum whiners and quitters, no matter what you do, no matter what you say, you will never earn the respect of the community nor be a winner by logging out and whining about the games shortcomings (read: your shortcomings).
If you want to own everybody or be the best at Perfect World, get the f*ck off the forum and get in game and make it happen.

PvE is a lot worst. You just get deserted or left out if you aren't cool or great, if you are cool, people with already established friends wont bother with you anyway. And cashshopping actually works against you and makes others quit or dislike you.
Perfect World was a great game to me when I first started on my psychic may 2010. There were different people and none of the **** above I said existed..but now, lolpw0 -

A game doesn't have to mirror real life where only those with connections and/or money are likely to be able to be some of the best. In fact, there is no real reason why it should be. Just because you personally are willing to put in the work, doesn't mean that there aren't serious flaws in the games management/development/structure. And just because you joined to be the best doesn't mean that is what everyone else is hoping to achieve. I play because I enjoy video games and have never concerned myself with leader boards or any of it. Also anyone can become President, history was against the current US president but he still became president. He was just an average person whose father was an immigrant he barely knew and who made some pretty dumb decisions in high school and used drugs. He worked hard to get the money he had prior to running for President when he was admittedly wealthy. Like him or hate him, think he's the best thing since sliced bread or worst president ever, he does prove that pretty much anyone can be President. It's not like he was born into the connections, he worked his way into being well connected. So yes, mostly anyone can achieve realistic ones. And yes sometimes fate works against people in cruel ways and they won't no matter how hard they worked or how hard they tried. But that doesn't mean that potential wasn't there0. There is no good reason for a video game to work that way though. We can shape game worlds to be better. That's the whole point. To have some fun. Like you said, you weren't willing to work for it. That's your problem. That doesn't mean the complaints in the forums aren't legitimate ones.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

i quit the game several times and always took a break of 6-8 months. everytime it was cause i got fed up of greed, catshops and prices on the server.
Everytime i logged on i had a feeling i have to farm nonstop, grind nonstop, work nonstop just to get so much money as i can (to compete with others), to buy best gear, just to get more money again---
simply..i lost the fun to play, since i had to do things i didnt like just to make more coins...
Btw i quit the game a month ago..just checked on forum cause the anime-page is down now :PIf i m trolling and spamming on forum...then i cant sleep and need a good laugh0 -
The reason Im going to quit this game is sheer boredom. I dont care if other players like or respect me, I dont care about connections or belonging to the IN guild. I dont care if people think Im extraordinary.
I like the grinds, the quest, the bh's, fb's, and from time to time the TW's. I like playing the game when there is something ahead that has to be accomplished. After lvl100, the something ahead goes away.
After I finish the last step of my celestial culti, there's nothing ahead I can see that I needs to accomplished.0 -
or just play the game to have fun instead of make real life analogies to illustrate the already obvious difference between spending money on a game and not spending money on a game.
oh and...if that simple concept evades you, or doesn't interest you, love the fact that there are other things you can do with your time0 -
Lol my suggestion is turn off PVP or bind all of your gear, honestly OPer, I did not read all of your post, way too long. I will tell you why would I quit: "Because is not fun anymore".
Thats all so long I'm having fun I will continue to play, my aim is never "to be the best" because there is really no point in doing that in a game, I play for the fun of it, plain and simple "Is fun".
Sure there are lot of tards inside the game (the typical cloacked OP sin that stalks and pks is the worst), after all is a game, and there are plenty of kiddos, the easiest way to find them is to turn on PVP, but there are also a lot of fun peopleto hang out with.
Thats all if you rage quitted then good luck to whatever you are going to do. b:bye0 -
I play the game for their abundance in fashion and mounts/flyers/pets. It's its a hobby for me to collect the fash~n~mounts . I don't need to be on top of the world to enjoy the game. Though, PWI hasn't released any new fash in 3 weeks b:cry. It disappoints me thoroughly
As what Dethprowl stated above, "I like playing the game when there is something ahead that has to be accomplished." or my addition, "looking forward to something..."
I look forward to the new creativity released by the developers. Whether I wear it or ride it, or having a new companion following me. Getting my hands on the fash and rare mounts is my priority xD.
Everyone is here for a different reason and people leave for different reasons.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

There's more reasons to play then being at the top of pvp.
Sure, I personally would love to have awesome gear to pk in. But I don't enjoy working for it, so I know I won't get it. I just refuse to do something I don't enjoy in a game.
I enjoy squadding with friends, trying to kill that one boss, and laugh about it when we partywipe for the 3rd time. I enjoy doing beta with some friends while knowing we will fail. I enjoy grinding and hanging out with my hubby. I enjoy getting fash and new mounts and I enjoy helping others.
That is enough reason for me to keep playing this game. At this moment there are still more things I enjoy about the game.

You forgot the third type of person... the people that can buy their way to the top
Type 3 becomes great in a month and stagnates as they have nothing to do, type 1 works hard and hones their skills and catches up to type 1 in 3 months. Type 2 remains at level 50 for two months before finally leveling up a few times, though still having low grade gear. Type 1 and type 3 fight, and type 1 kills them. Over and over in horrible crushing defeats. Then PWE has a General Summer's sale and Type 1 goes R9 and kills all the type 1s and 2s with one hit, making all of type 1's work pointless. Type 3 proceeds to quit the game while type 1 is busy farming his *** off, who then too quits the game because farming is too boring and repetitive.

Lol. There are tons of reasons to play mmo's. Being the best is just one mentality. Some people use it as an instant messenger, some want to pve and just beat cultis.
If that was why people quit 99.9% of the rl world would have ragequit/suicides by now.
People get to the top by exploiting a niche, being clever enough to outsmart other people, or by just being lucky. The president is actually an example of this. The climate was right, he knew where to be, and knew what to say. I'm not trying to say its not an accomplishment or anything because it is. I am just saying that gettin to the top is not a glorious or necessarily difficult (excluding luck) thing to do. Its just rare.0 -
People quit anything when the potential benefit outweighs the effort.
Climb Mount Everest = not me, ever, risk death or having your nuts frozen off so you can say you stood on top of a moutain???? (squeaky voice cause your nuts are frozen off - Wow nice view, lets get outta here. Sh.it its cold) I dont get it.
Get R9? Would be nice, no health risks to get there, but doubt Ill ever be that successful at merchanting to be able to buy it, and dont have the real money. So do I quit - no, go and buy R9 if you want, it didnt exist when I started so thats not why I play. You wanna then pk me. Go for it, Im white, nothing much I can do so I dont care.
Analyse your own reasons. Why are you playing this game? Pure and simple for me its to use up my downtime - my RL missus watches TV, I play this. I've read a thousand books so I dont miss that yet. I've got no study to do. I dont like most American sitcoms and soap operas - but seriously who DOESNT love Big Bang Theory??? (Australian tv is garbage) My downtime now includes chatting with people from around the world who I'll never meet, and I can still find heaps to do.
Benefit for me - fun/enjoyment/relaxation; Effort - very little;0 -
I got this kind of lecture from early year college about human differences that make certain kind of them always on the top of society. b:chuckle
Your habit, feeling, way of thinking, your society, your money, ability to tell lies to your self. (which sometimes i use for joke, that human brain is way to advanced for them self)
Let say if certain people can't do thing such as stealing position in a line. It's simply because he think it wrong.
Let say why people prefer pve than pvp server. It's not because they are coward or have certain kind of attachment to their character. They simply didn't want to be bothered by random pk or competitive. And this kind of people wouldn't be those who start the fight in pk server.
Let say you see someone in forum, explain things in wrong way. You might want to hold yourself from posting a reply, since you think it's not worth your time.
There people that can accept losing and forget it after awhile, but there some that can't accept it at all and will try it again until they are winning. Even after hundred to thousand tries. Just for winning once.
People say it's free to get all those items. But they forget that it cost their time and live to get those things *free*. Since the items can be bought indirectly with real money, it's never free. (I got flamed by my friend, when i try to telling him how to trading in game. He said he there to play the game, not trading for ages before reaching the actual fun. Since that time i never telling people how to do it on any games.)
There people that stuck on doing things that considered bad by certain community, but they never really stopped such as gold farmer or char selling. (this just example on various games, on real world think it yourself b:chuckle) They do it for living.
There people that rarely feel bad after hurting other people feeling. Or those who too much attached on real money that think *paying* without using real money = free. Or those who think a little price difference is worth their time to buy in cheaper place but much more far away from their house. Or those that simply angry and think it was right to throw away the madness to random people in internet.
There people that can think various way of clearing their objective without much effort and without making anyone disappointed but still efficient. When you meet this kind of people, you would realize how clear was the difference since birth.
Let say there people that simply had religion so they can live on certain country. They didn't really think much of their religion other than *rights* to live. But that didn't mean this people are bad and must be exterminated from society, they can become a lot more better and open, than those who go to church every week.
When someone had the combination of personality, habit, and tendency that match or synergy with current society, they most likely going to be in the top.

The reason you failed in pvp is because you're a 95 cleric (which means no r8) and you're sin bait.
Go reroll a sin or a barb so you die less. That'll make you feel warm inside.

The only real reason people quit this game: because it's mind numbingly boring with nothing new to do after its 6 years of existence apart from power level to end game, buy rep, buy refines and open packs, thats PW in a nut shell.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I agree with everyone who has said that the reason for the quitting of many players is sheer boredom.
At first, I thought Daily Quests such as Bounty Hunter and Crazy Stone were a great idea. Unlike games like MapleStory, there was always a quest that would keep me going; something that would level my slowly, but definitely. However, once you reach the point where there's nothing to aim for, you find yourself wasting away hours trying to complete these daily quests with no specific goal in mind.
I agree with the desire to become the best PvPer, to become invincible. But again, you will hit that wall eventually; the lack of motivation. I don't think I'm the only one, but this lack of motivation comes from realization; the realization that the best are no longer those who practice and work routinely, but rather those who have the most money.
Granted, there are ways to work yourself up there without blowing hundreds of real-life dollars on the game. But really think about it.
What's the best alternative to making money? Monitoring Gold prices and being a merchant. But in order to be a merchant, you must have at least a decent chunk of money before you can play the market. You can't buy low and sell high if you can't buy at all.
Now lets consider other options. Farming TT or Nirvana? That won't work out too well either. You have the option to do TT with a squad or on your own. To solo, you're going to need rather good equips, regardless of what class you are. That's out of the question. Farming TT with a squad makes it seem completely unreliable as a source of income. Not only is it hard to find a COMPETENT squad of 6 members, you must keep in mind that you must split the spoils amongst all of the other members. And there may not even be spoils depending on what drops.
Farming mats and herbs have become rather obsolete.
I can agree that competition is a good thing. More often than not, it in itself acts as a source of motivation. But what I'm seeing is a game that's way too competitive. The game is constantly changing and the rich are getting richer.
The sad truth that I have come to realize is that this problem stems from something that makes this game appealing in the first place; Territory Wars. This game literally hands out hundreds of millions of in-game currency to the best of the best. No one else. It becomes a game of nepotism run by elitists and there's really nothing you can do about it.
tl;dr? The reason why I (and along with many others) seem to be stuck in a cycle of quitting and coming back to this game is the desire to become better. At least until the realization that it's extremely hard (and perhaps even near impossible) kicks in. At which point, we simply stop playing again.0 -
I agree with pretty much everyone who's posted so far.
Personally I really liked this game back when everyone was equal to eachother more or less. People weren't buying power back in 2008. At least not as extreme as it is today. Because of the way those of us remember the game being back then, that's the only reason I even stick around the forums. I keep hoping maybe someday things will be the same as they used to be but honestly I know that wont ever happen.
It started with that duke rose mishap and from then on the economy of the game got really rediculous. Packs only added to that, and now the new shiny R9 stuff is the new "pack". It's what seems to be inflating things more. People ***** about it, but its the playerbase's own fault. It all depends on how much you're willing to pay for power.
The only thing that really had motivated me all these years was having good friends and I always liked to help others. Better gear means I could do this easier. As does of course, higher levels. But I've always been pretty satisfied with reaching 100. 105 to me doesn't make enough difference to bother me. I don't play the game just for levels (seriously levels don't matter to anyone anymore because it takes minimal to no effort to attain).
But like other people said, when it means doing something I hate or don't want to, just to make coins, it doesn't give me a lot of motivation. I already do the same ******n thing in real life. It's called having a job that I don't enjoy. And doing it cuz I have to. A game shouldn't feel like work.
The real reason I have quit for the millionth time now is more or less to do with the fact that 1) the game got boring to me again and 2) I cannot stand PWE's service.
The 2nd reason keeps playing a bigger and bigger role for me, however.
why I still come around here I don't know. I still enjoy the community for the most part, I guess you could say.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Well... I can see now why this game wasn't fun at all for me for the final year that I played it. I wasn't playing to be the best of the best, or to solo Nirvana, or to be 5.0 able to spit swaths of death in TW.
I was playing to have fun, and get really cool gear, and enjoy the game for what it was. Watching people blow huge wads of cash to go from level 1 to level 101 and have no clue what they were doing is what made me quit. Along with the lack of fixes, community mismanagement, apathy from the Devs in China, and many other things. I played since Open Beta, and never got past level 90 on any of my characters. I did TW, and probably more BH and FB runs than almost anyone else in the game over the 3 years I played. But it just wasn't fun any more... The new classes and expansion was too ho-hum, content was 2 days of mediocre fun, then back to boring.
The proverbial nail in the coffin was the attitude of other people. I would offer to run people through instances, instances I could solo quite easily, and got a nasty 'you have no idea what you're doing, we need someone level 101 to solo it for us! Stop wasting our time!' reply when I offered to help with BH29 or BH39 quite often. I have a BM that can tank BH59, yet, squads would turn me down and refuse me because 'we need a barb'.
So, my experience isn't available anymore, and I spend my time playing FS now.101 Sage Sin*/Archer
100 Demon BM*/Barb
96 Demon Cleric/Sage Seeker
95 Demon Wiz/
94 Sage Veno
85 Psy/80 Mystic
And a handful of other alts, all 79 and under.

Those are a lot of reasons I quit as well. I am willing to adapt to the whole.... Power level thing. I don't care if people sell their services and level people. It's the people they level that really annoy me, because if you don't experience the class you're power leveling, and you get to 100+, you need to know what you're doing by those levels. you shouldn't start learning the class so late.
If you're one of those rare players who can pick up any class and master it quite easily, good job but... majority of people are not like that.
That's the one thing I hate about the way things are now. I think my annoyance with the game would be far less if the game still had competent players.
Of course that doesn't change the fact I still have come to hate the devs over in China for continuously messing things up more and more. >_>;[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

After it got stupendously hard to find a random FCC squad, I started getting bitter.
The rewards for BH make it worthless after about level 80, so I stopped doing it... The dailies in general were not worth doing for me, for the most part. Having started playing the game when the only way to level up was quests, it was kind of... Stupid having to adapt to doing really stupid BH's that give almost nothing at level 80-90.101 Sage Sin*/Archer
100 Demon BM*/Barb
96 Demon Cleric/Sage Seeker
95 Demon Wiz/
94 Sage Veno
85 Psy/80 Mystic
And a handful of other alts, all 79 and under.

People have different reasons.
I had a year long hiatus because I got bored and the game got repetitive. I played for fun and stuff gets boring when it is monotonous.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

To catch them is my real test
To train them is my cause
