anyway for the OP id suggest searching up
'pdef HP' filtered with CLERIC for forums and youll see quite a range of usefull threads ^^
gems and shards have been around since more than a year ago so youll find first hand accounts from clerics who switched for and from either one. (youll want to ignore Jade of Steady Defense as its usually only worth sharding for rank 9 gears)

24 G9 garnet you get : 9262 P def ( 69%). same hit you get hit for 3100. Hp left 2848

24 G9 Citrine you get : 7867 Hp get 1 hit whit 58% Hp left : 3667

IMO Hp is better.

Yes, but suppose you as a endgame cleric, want a set of gear that you absolutely want, for bonus stats. One of the reason why some like the defense gems more is because if your set on specific gear, there are fewer ways to obtain pdef than it is HP.

The socket calc in my sig includes a solver to find optimal sharding for whatever conditions you are interested in. Just use that.

astyPuss does that include the factor that some opponents nowadays like archers that have R9 +10, and over 120 attack levels? >>

Did you look at it? You can specify the attack level of the attacker in the red box.

There isn't as much voodoo to this as you are making it out to be. Sharding isn't that mystical and the effectiveness of sharding in any given situation can be exactly calculated (and optimized). My tool actually lets you specify a range of situations so you can see what effect that has.

The mix between citrine and garnet doesn't really depend on the attacker though but depends on the refinement of your gear. Having low hp makes it helpful to shard citrine while having low defense makes it good to shard garnet. Vit often is better than citrine gem even for arcanes since even though it is 15 hp less you get like 30 more pdef and and 30 more mres. Most of the time trading 15 hp for 30 pdef / mres is a solid trade.

The attack level of the attacker usually only affects how much jade you want to mix in. Full josd sharding at high refines is pretty OP against non-R9 opponents but is often not better than other sharding options against your attack level 120 archer.
