Walls have ears quest

I know it has to be something dumb... I went to kill the boss for this quest, Mungor, my friend helped me kill him, yay. He was also doing the quest. The thing was, the kill counted for him, and not for me... I figure it has to be something dumb... or am I doing something wrong? Any help is fine, thanks!

    It is a solo kill. The same thing happened to my alt. Get him down to to half HP and then you can get help. Do the majority of the damage though and you will get the kill.
