Is there anyway to transfer shards from one item to another?

    I don't recall. I know you can purge the equipment from the shards but I don't think there is a way to recover the shards once placed into an equipment.

    Indeedy. You can blow away the shards in an item, but you can't recover them, or transfer them to another item.
