Strange Convenience

The other day I was standing in a pvp hotspot with sally out for shields in case of a sin attack, and a 10x sin attacked me out of stealth so I expelled, kited a little, knocked back when it was over, and for some reason, he started to run. So I thicketed, and for some strange reason, I didn't notice until after the effect had worn off,(8 or seconds, sin still wasn't dead because of stupid charm xD) thicket did not go into cooldown, nor did it cost me any sparks.(it's only lvl 10) I think it might have had something to do with how far away the sin was when I finished casting it because he started using a sprint skill to flee but it barely caught him, and I had to run a little to get in range for my attacks. Anyway, after the effect wore off he tele stunned me, then strangely enough tried to run still, but I took advantage of thicket being outside of cooldown, and managed to kill him before he got away. It wasn't until then after he pmed me that I found out why he was running away. He pmed me asking if I was r9 lol because his first attack out of stealth only critted me for 200 dmg thx to sally(lol WIN).

tl;dr
It was very convenient that I was not only able to use thicket without spark costs, but it also did not go into cooldown, and maybe if someone did some testing we could find out how to exploit such a thing similar to how cc was once exploited.

This actually happened to me earlier in RB, though it was a little different. The mob I had targeted died as I was channeling thicket, but it still went through and did damage to other mobs without taking sparks, mana, or the cooldown.

xD You sir have encountered a noob player. He could have simply inspected you to see your gear.

Idk, when you're a 10x sin, would you even bother checking the gear of most of your opponents? Especially arcanes lol Though he told me he knows almost nothing about mystics so that explains why he didn't know about the shield. Or his display info action could've been in CD and he wanted to attack before I went white :b idk he seems to have something against my faction, which makes being in it that much more fun ;)

Ok, so when I am often in pvp spots and expecting a sin to come attack me, I use plants to keep them from stealth sparking and give me a little more chance to react, unless they're smart enough to the way to counter which I will not say here because I do not want more sins to know about it <.<;; But anyway, sometimes when I don't wanna stand in the location the mob was at, I would send my pet to kill the mob, and just before it died, I would start channeling the plant skill to where it would die before I would finish channeling it. I've been doing this for quite a while, and then when I tried it with listless, I noticed, it didn't cost me any chi or go into cooldown but the plant still summoned at my location as normal. So, I tried to same thing with thicket, and, it worked surprisingly enough. Only problem is they don't stay out too long. But I guess you could go right next to someone you wanna kill and try it lol Or who knows, you may try it randomly and it'll hit a creeper sin. Just wanted everyone to know :)

Something also interesting, I was dueling a bm friend of mine numerous times, and during one I started to cast thicket, and they summoned like a millisecond before his stun hit, and for some reason I was sfcared to see the plants did not attack him. And then he proceeded to punch the **** out of me, and since it was a duel, no genie to save me. I thought I was done for, but when the stun wore off, the plants finally attacked and sealed him, which was weird because the plant's duration is shorter than that stun. So it was yet another strange convenience.

What you described always happen to me in Delta. If the target dies or goes out of range while you are channeling Thicket, it will hit but there won't be a CD and won't consume sparks. I think this works like the bm glitch they recently removed... The seal and the damage are already "sent" at the second you click the skill, but if for some reason it gets cancelled, the system considers the skill didn't land, hence why no CD/spark consumed, but the skill works so it's bound to land on the target once the channeling has begun. Idk if it's clear, but in a nutshell, there's a conflict between how the skill behaves and how the game considers a skill like having landed or not on the target.

this happened to me also ...

like how Dyskrasia explained, a mob died just as i was casting, no cooldown or sparks taken away, the thickets dropped on the ground around me though.

My guess is that the thicket plants don't actually disappear till they attack, and he likely stunned the thicket, just like you can stun a regular plant/summon. The thicket waited until it was unstunned and then unleashed. :3
