VMWARE on Windows 7 PWI graphics problem

Is it possible to run PWI under VMWARE workstation 7 running XP with SP3 on Windows 7?

DXDIAG shows all is working ok but when I start PWI I get just the background not the characters (players or NPC).

PWI works fine under the host system, windows 7 ultimate.

Is this a graphics resource issue under VMWARE?

Is there a log file I can check?

Should I be raising this with VMWARE.

Any one help?

    Running the game on the native system is ideal.

    Your video drivers have to be installed properly and DirectX 9.0c support has to be working right too.
    Do you need help learning about patching the game, installing it, changing antivirus/firewall settings, changing network settings, learn how to use a computer, keeping your PC maintained and more?

    <- Running VMWARE off of OSX to XP SP3; had a lot of initial issues with graphics and other problems running the game.

    I solved my problem by booting straight into XP SP3 instead of trying to run an instanced version of XP.

    Hope it helps.

    Anyone any ideas why characters are not showing up?

    One issue is that your hard drive only has 2.2GB of free space left. You should have about 10-14GB in my opinion.

    Please note that we do not support non-native Windows systems for running our games.

    The dxdiag might not show any problems, but the game may now be getting the proper data from Windows/DirectX and the video drivers. nVidia, Intel, or ATI/AMD video drivers on actual hardware is what is needed.

    As the dxdiag on XP under VM showed that AGP was not enabled I setup a vista system to run under VM.
    on Vista dxdiag states all is working and all tests were successful.

    PW still does not show any characters.

    It would be of technical interest to know what graphic functions PW is using that is not anything to do with directx as that is more likely the cause of this.

    I guess I will have to invest in some more hardware as there is no support for virtual machines.

    The game does require DirectX functions to run. The engine is a DirectX 8.1 and works well with 9.0c and up.

    I will take this up with VMWARE as it looks like their display driver is not supporting directx correctly.

    running on a VM will enable me to check out and verify new changes to PW before making the same updates on my main system.

    I am also interested in real time windows message queue processing and with a little bit of mouse/keyboard record and playback I can get the message trace details in a repeatable way so my analysis can be more exact. I want a VM so the mouse/keyboard is dedicated to a system with no other activities. I dont want to have to castrate my main system in order to get the environment I need.

    I have subsequently proved with some sample code that VMWARE is definetly not supporting some of the necessary directx functionality that I believe PW is using.

    I am also looking at other VM products to see if I can get what i need elsewhere.
