(Note: I really, really did not intent to make this a rant. You know how it is.. once you start its like a rolling train..)

I joined PWI on my first character in the end of October 2008, not long after it had been out. I was.. god I was such a noob! Did the ol' 1 point in every stat build. PWI was beautiful, the fashion all totally cute. The players, ever so nice! Everyone helping each other since nobody really had a clue. Then someone hit level 90, oh my god! How pro! TT90 green was freakin elite. TT90 gold... was a total achievement.

I bet you're thinking.. here's a "good old days" rant. Well, maybe just a little bit. But a little more personal. I was never bothered by 5aps, packs, tideborns, pvp, none of the stuff that bothers most of you I'm sure.

No.. my problem is.. I was too late!

Examples? I got 'em.

After hard work I finally hit 90 and got my full set of tt90 green. I was over the moon!
....but BH had been out for some time and everyone was already on their way to 100. So my congrats never really appeared on world chat, you know?

Remember when Neon Purgatory was the ultimate endgame weapon? Yeah, I totally got one!
....after packs came out, paid 75mil for it pretty much the day before they came out. So boom, every caster had one and I felt like a total boob.

Wow, that really makes me sound like a bit of a beyatch, not my intention I assure you. I'm really not trying to rant, and I've totally missed the point! Let me make the point first..

The way I see it, there are 2 main things in PWI now. Frost and Nirvana. Chances are, I'll be spending my days in one or the other, right?

Here's the thing. I abso-freakin-lutely hate frost and nirvana is such a snore fest. I've totally lost interest and although I'm really trying to play for my old friends. Half of them have rerolled or left orrr had a personality makeover.

Simply put, my gears fell behind, so I got left behind. I was in Spectral, I was pretty happy. Then comes all this Vengeful stuff, suddenly I HAD to be 100, I -HAD- to get nirvana armor or rank 8? Well **** you, I'm not throwing away hours of my life and/or coin to make your pitiful faction own just a tiny bit more of the map. Hell, Essence'll only take it all again.

Money aint everything, you know?

Okay, calm down woman.

My question is this, should I take my dislike for the 2 biggest things in this game as a sign that maybe its time to go?

I have no hard feelings towards you sins, psychics, heck I respect you for pouring all that work/coin into your char and getting it was OP as you want. Good on you!




Really sorry for the rant. I just got out of a frost run and kind of felt like.. totally worthless. Hm.

Honestly at endgame there is pk/tw tt fc and nirvana. so if you cant stand them then maybe it is time to go. not trying to say it in a rude way but thats really all there is to it.

Unless you really want to do TW, or like doing TT all day long, or are gonna roll an alt...

Go find a P2P MMO. You'll be happier there. P2P MMO's are like the good old days of PWI, but they don't turn into the bad current days of PWI.

You also aren't required to get to endgame in most guilds on most P2P MMO's to be respected or liked.

Or, find a new genre to play. Play KotOR. Or Hello Kitty's Super Awesome Adventures, but... Really, you sound like you're burned out on PWI. You'll probably hit a point, sooner or later, when it's just not worth it to log in again, and not show up. You might force yourself to for your old friends...

I've been there and done that, and it's no fun. These people who do this game for the 5.0, the constant 'gotta have money' thing, the constant scamming... Is that fun for them?

I find it fun leveling my characters. But... The fun is going away, slowly, as time goes on. The community is getting stupid, the players are getting stupid, the people who run the game in the US are communicating LESS AND LESS, and the Devs in China are... I'll stop there.

Get out and don't look back.

I get it. I am a level 100 psy, with rank 8 +10 all around. Pretty good, right?

Now I need rank 9. And +12. Because honestly, rank 9 +12 is so much more powerful than anything else that it doesn't really matter what you do. The only counter to R9 +12 is getting your own set of R9 +12. Obviously, skill plays into it somewhat too, but really good gear can cover up a lot of skill mistakes. b:chuckle

So, to be a factor in the fun end-game stuff (pk, tw) you need to be ready to shell out a few thousand bucks or hang out in nirvana for a few hours per day for the next year.

EDIT: To join in on the "good 'ol days" thought: Some of my fondest memories of playing an MMO come from my MUD days in college. I used to play on Stanford's "Revenge of the End Of The Line" MUD several hours per day, and even though it was all text-based I still have vivid memories of the quests we went on there. I even spent an entire weekend with my guildies in the Red Dawn faction; we spent literally 48 hours online straight, surviving on Dr. Pepper and Twinkies. I credit those days to why I will be surprised to see my 60th birthday. lol

Your words are wise indeed and yeah, I levelled alts. (not to 100 mind) lots of them! I could recite the archosaur quests in my sleep. I played (a certain p2p MMO owned by a company called Blizzard) for a few months but the community over there were totally crappy.

I've been trying to find new MMOs and the only thing I've discovered is that I'm going to avoid PWE games completely. Forsaken world is so.. what's the word.. I don't know. Bricky! Crappy camera movements, no real action like pwi used to be. Blocky? God knows. Same goes for HoTK and ESO too. Really plain and boring.

Guess its back to the old xbox360 for a while. Sure do miss Mass Effect, you know.. decent games. Haha.

I know what you mean, Vindrael. And congrats to you, psychics are actually some of my favourites :P I never wanted to be a factor in PVP or anything, I knew I was never going to be great at that. I got the herc, never got the nix. (that boots me out of a crapload of factions too)

I also gotta suggest you get out while you can and don't look back. At this point in time, if you don't even have a good group of friends to keep you occupied and you can't stand what PWI considers to be content, you['re really best off not sticking around. It's unfortunate but... well... it's what the game's come to nowadays.

For that certain Blizzard owned MMO... It actually comes down to the actual server you use. I never really used the forums there... However, if you find the right server, and right kind of server, you will find people that you will find friendly.

Case in point: Someone gave me, out of the blue, 10,000 gold, no strings, just because of my guild name. A few days before, someone gave me 500 gold.

Same guild name, different server, and people were insulting about it. So... Try different servers before you establish a home.

I don't have much experience with anything else, MMO wise... Let me ask a friend if she has any advice for you... You may like Borderlands, FPSRPG. I've played it on PC. It has 4 expansions now, it's also available on XBox and PLaystation 2/3 IIRC (not a console girl, so... don't normally pay attention to those things. ^_^;)

Hahaha, yeah, there's 'elite' guilds, that do require you to be endgame, and have massive gear (um, we don't have an equivalent in PWI... It's like... you hit endgame, and G16/R9 is the bottom of the barrel, and you start farming better and better gear... They would have like, G40 gear, or better... Maybe G100?) They are probably a RAID or Heroics guild. Find a 'Family Guild', or other similar laid back guild. They don't care about doing the 40v40 PVP, 40 man RAID's (basically, 40 people go into an instance with a ton of mobs that are like our WB's, and bosses that are... WAY the hell harder than our WB's, and pwn or get pwned by them), or heroics. Though, they may do them on occasion, so you won't miss out if you don't have to.

I might go back to that MMO... If PWI gets bad enough, I get bored enough, or the Devs get dumb enough, I will. $15 a month there gets you anything you want, vs the $60+ a month here for... Barely anything. >_> Unless you wanna spend ALL your time farming, and dodging scammers.

If you are not happy, don't force yourself into something just because its familiar.

Every gamer eventually has his/her fun with a game. Once that runs out, the only reason why most of them play is familiarity of the game.

Consider your game-time a success, and move on. Don't look back. I haven't logged in for months myself, because I don't find this game fun anymore (I'm part of the 'good old days bunch). However, I still roam around the forums to see how the game is going, and to see the entertainment on the forums

Honestly... I'm in the same boat, Nirvana and FC bore the hell out of me, but they're not as bad if you run with friends or entertaining squads. I simply CAN'T do either either without music on. The only reason I still play this game is because of people I know and just not really knowing any other game to play.

Good luck with wherever ya go, wish I knew some other game to play for entertainment. Oh well, I guess I'll stick with my Nirvies and FCs and what not. And you know.. the mind numbing boredness that accompanies them.

I play in on-again-off-again spurts for this very reason (currently feel myself going off-again). I'll play for a couple weeks, then put the game down for a couple months (thus why I haven't even hit 90 in two years of play). During my breaks, I'll play other games, or pick up a couple good books, or just do whatever. Then, after four or so months, I'll feel in the mood for a BH or two and end up diving back into PW.

So, yeah. If you're not having fun, just stop playing and find something else that you actually like to do. Leaving isn't forever (as long as you don't delete your account, anyway), so there's nothing stopping you from logging back in if you want to check in with your friends every now and then, or solo a low-mid level dungeon for some amazed newbies.
