Hi guys

I'm LA venomancer. I mainly use my tanking pet which is a glacial walker, and i am sure im stuck with it for a long time still, since i wont be able to pay for a herc. (Better pay off my bm's bill first. Just got her deicide, damnit >_<)

So far i am lvl 80 on my venomancer and almost 81. But since i got my new armor and weapon, my glacial walker (same lvl as me) have even more trouble with holding aggro away from me (besides i use my starter skill venomous scarab and dont crit, it just still cant hold aggro away from me)

It's sometimes pretty annoying.

But anyway, since i'm stuck with my glacial walker for a long time, i've been thinking about start get some skills for him / upgrade them.

i have NEVER bought or upgraded a pet skill before, so honestly, im not sure what im doing.
Glacial walker have the 3 starter skills.

Should i lvl the skills it already has, all 3?
If i do lvl them, would it help the pet keeping aggro?
Should i add new skills on the glacial walker/ which ones?

o.O level 80 and never upgraded your glacial walker's basic attack skill? well no WONDER you're stealing aggro...

(okay, you likely will be even after you upgrade it. but hopefully not as quickly or easily. things should die faster, too.)

get together, lessee, 800,000 coin i think you'll need. go to ms. zoologist in archosaur's southeastern corner. from her, buy four (4) "tame book"s at 200,000 coin each.

summon your glacial walker, then talk to ms.zoologist again; select "learn pet skill". (or maybe it's "teach your pet skills", i can't check in-game right now and it's been a while for me. one of the two.) you'll get a menu with all the skills your glacial walker knows. BUT WAIT... hover your mouse over them, and the descriptions will say "skill name (level ONE HIGHER than your pet knows)". click any of these, and you'll up your pet's knowledge of that skill by one level. (you'll also consume one tame book.)

first off, max out your pets' basic attack skills. being level 80, you can do that. second, level any other skills you find yourself using a lot, like maybe tough on the walker. third, start thinking about buying other, extra skills for your pets; that's a more complicated question, though.

I've had this issue since day 2 of playing veno. I'm AA btw. When grinding general mobs I find the best thing to do when you send your pet to attack is open up with blazing scarab. I know some people may say not to bother with this skill much if at all because battles rarely last as long as the DoT. BUT it is still damage and you can consider that for the next 30 second even if you have to hold back on DD you've got that bit of extra damage going in. The main point is that blazing scarab will almost never steal aggro. - So opening up with Blazing followed by a pet heal (That's if you want to be really careful) followed by either a Venom or Ironwood and ending with Lucky.

I usually find that does the job with most mobs and even if you've stolen aggro with the 3rd/4th skill, Lucky scarab is usually fast enough to finish the job. Other than that it's just a case of holding back with your skills. Understandably we'd all like to blast the **** out of whatever we have targeted but there are very few (If any?) pets that can hold aggro if we do that.

You may also want to look into starting up with a foxform debuff (Eg Amp) and then rolling in the big damage.

As for pet skills Roar comes in really helpful here, whether it's you stealing aggro or a squishy squad mate. Pounce I find is handy too but unlike roar that's not so helpful in the case of a boss. Hope I gave you something helpful to try out. o:

    Normally I'm fighting this Way

    1. Send my Pet.
    (Normally starting with Bash)

    2. When my Pet starts to attack, Venomous Scarab
(or Myriad Raibow and then Venomous Scarab).

    3. Ironwood Parasite, activate another Pet Attack Skill during the Channeling.
    (mostly Flesh Ream)
    4. Spam Skills until the Mob is goneb:avoid

Normally I never get aggro this way.
But I'm levwling my Pets all the Time, so they are on an equal Level,
and their Skills are also at level-max.

LV5 attacks won't keep aggro from yourself... you can upgrade gear and refine and the pet cannot be upgraded nearly as much. I recommend just getting Howl on your pet and leveling it to 5 which reduces their magic defense by 36% instead and just finishing mobs before they get to you in the first place. b:laugh

Only reason aggro sometimes stays on hercs is if they are physical mobs and then it is just the reflect keeping aggro rather than the pets attacks. But even that is easy to rip off of a herc... just kill things and kill them quickly.

True about the herc losing aggro but i replaced pounce with bash and for the most part it keeps aggro.

However i ususally have the herc attack 3+ mobs so all i end up doing is my AOE skills and heal.

It takes some practice to have the herc attack other mobs & from taking aggro when using AOE, but eventually you will learn with practice.

It is about the same amount of time it takes to kill them individually so I dont waste time and not have to worry about taking aggro.

However I got a nix now and theres no way I can take aggro away especially when they have pounce on b:pleasedb:laughb:pleased

But get a high DD (e.g. scorpion) and lvl it to your lvl in COF and it will be harder for you to take aggro cuz of the high DD + skills it does.
