Class armor for fashion?

Unless I missed something when I was researching, I'm a bit discouraged that there aren't many armor choices in late levels specifically designed for your class as far as it went looking like it belonged to your race.

But beyond the -lv20 noob armor (this doesn't even include the first 3 races) and Rank 8, there doesn't seem to be an interesting armor look.

Don't know if there are any updates in the future whenever and if they ever rise the level cap. But I seriously hope so. I get bored of looking like everyone else, and fashion tends to grow old after awhile.

There's also a fact that's hard to make a good male fashion combo. b:sweat

Anyone else got opinions?

As someone who sometimes runs off to the tailor and grab some random armor just to wear, I highly approve of this. This is actually something that should be easy to do.

...Facing reality it will most likely never happen.

And people thought I was weird for liking the lvl 60 LA.
    http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f321/Kieve/PWI/M_Serrated.jpg

For the longest time, I did want the TT80 Lunar Chaser stuff, but could never get over the lower cut of the chestpiece - don't like the bare-chest look on it at all, and it pretty much ruined the set for me.

And it may as well be mentioned - since PW's fashion and armor equips both take the same slots (arms, chest, legs, boots), the models themselves are more or less interchangeable. So it would be little more than some database work to make "fashion" versions of armor. However, enabling dyes would be another matter since armor textures use the alpha channel as a specular map to achieve their shiny look, whereas fashion employs it as a guide for color-mapping*.
*[/Tech]: the shiny bits of your armor would be the only ones to change color.

Not all armour is fugly. Fuzzy thinks there are a number of sets that look good "as fashion". The 80gold Feng's complete set is pretty nifty, as is the OHT Polaris Clarity set. Not to mention the Cascade Glow. b:dirty

Oh my, the OHT armors... I think I just... b:shy my pants.

Im going to get my hands on a fullset for fun. Or I could risk my Lunar Green (Eventually planned for Gold - Nirvana but itl never happen lol) for some tempting OHT Gold.... Hmm....

(also - I quit playing about nine months ago - I was in my 60's before anni-packs rolled out, so you're not "way ahead of me" XD but that's nitpicking. LA barbs ftw!)

b:chuckle Yeah yeah, zing away. Wasn't meaning it to be a contest or anything.
Did make me wonder how long ago it was though, so I went digging - my forum join date was May 2009, at which point I was using this as a sig (until switching to the MediaWorks one). EDIT: Some older screenshots with TT60 axes date back to the end of April (4-27-2009), so somewhere between end of April & beginning of May, then?
We've both been 'strange' for a long while I guess. b:surrender

I may have one more in me, when I finish the female version of [check PMs]. Otherwise, my focus is elsewhere. I've wanted to work with my own material for a very very long time.

As to the topic of the thread... the only flaw I can really see is the Specular->Color-map issue I mentioned. Armor would lose its shine and you'd have weird colors until you dyed it back to white (since all fash comes random-color at first). But otherwise, there's no technical reason why it'd be "impossible." Hell, barbs can wear headfash even, the devs are just mean and don't let us.

Not stupid, but it's not something most people will realize unless they know how PW handles texture mapping, and/or have dug around in the game's guts a bit. So! A little Texturing 101 for ya:

PWI uses .DDS texture format, which stores two images: the "Diffuse" base texture, which you see, and an Alpha Channel texture which works behind the scenes.
    DDS Texture + Alpha
For armor that channel specifies the places where metal gets shiny - trim, bright points, sharp edges, mainly. For clothing, PWI reads that channel in a different way - as a place to map and overlay pigments. So, say you have a piece of "Fashion" armor, and you buy it from the boutique dyed bright green.
    Alpha as color-map
Not very pretty, is it? Note that only the parts that were highlighted in white (shiny bits) get the full effect of the color, the rest of it is left pretty much alone. Certain fashions (those that can't be dyed) have an all-black Alpha channel. They still have color - you can see this if you mouse over them, they show the "dyed" color, but because their Alpha Channel doesn't have any mapping for the pigment, it doesn't affect the Diffuse layer, and so you only see the one, fixed color.
If you were to go into the textures and change that alpha channel to white, the "dye" your fixed-color item has would suddenly appear. Worse, since it's registered in the database as "unable to be dyed," you couldn't change that color - it's stuck with whatever you bought it as.

tl;dr - to make "fashion armor," PW would have to modify the textures (specifically the alpha channel) of every armor piece in the game, in order to correct the dye/pigment issue. Or simply leave it as-is and make a killing on white/black/red dyes.

    This concludes today's lesson. b:victory

As for the armor, im sure that the "undyable" flag could be applied without having to make the colour black couldnt it? I mean, the programming cant be that ****.... Wait this is PW, yes it can, ignore me. b:bye
