Can't pick up Soulbreed plant?

A friend of mine is a Mystic, and she has a quest to extract medium ink from a soulbreed plant for Librarian Yua. The quest guide said she didn't need a pickaxe to farm the ink from the plant, but for some reason she can't pick them up no matter how much she clicks on them, it constantly comes up that she doesn't have the tool for the action. She even tried having a pickaxe in her inventory and it still didn't work.

Is she doing something wrong? I took a look at it for her and she seems to be doing everything right.

Did we miss something by any chance?

Did you ever figure out how to farm the soulbreed plant? I am unable to do so as well in my quest Strenghting the bonds.
