Breaking the ice in a random squad

I like going on random squads even for nirvana runs (which might be a bad idea because of some scammers). However, one disadvantage of this is that since most of the players don't know each other, the common reaction when something goes wrong in the run is that everyone starts bashing/cussing/generally just being jerks to each other instead of just laughing it off like we usually do when we're squadded with friends.

I found out that a simple "ty for the invite :)" or "hey guys, how's it goin?" after joining the squad seems to lighten the mood a bit (I swear, I don't get why people can get sooo serious in a game). So a question for everyone else who likes to go on random squads - How do you break the ice and make the other squad members feel that you're just there to play and have fun?

Peace guys, enjoy the game b:victory

i try and say hey and thanks or even talk with players while i play... most of the time i run with friends anyways... sometimes i end up running with 1 or 2 ppl that i am not friends with but have run with before... however, no matter where you go your going to meet ppl who never say anything before, during or after a run for whatever reason...

I always say at least hea or thanks for the invite when joining a squad.
Sometimes make random comments on stuff happening and I also notice that it lightens the mood a bit.
People won't mind as much when you say you must go afk for a couple of seconds or when something happens. Overall it helps to communicate in instances anyway... xD

A simple "Hi :)" works wonders most times...

Cracking a few remarks/comments works as well.

But if still the squad is silent I tend to shut up too b:shutup

Sometimes it's just not worth the effort, lol

Interesting thread. I find myself talking ALL the time in any squad I run with, be it friends or total strangers. Breaking the ice is easy. When everybody is all gloomy and acting like silent ice queens, I tend to joke about 'sins or pretend to be a complete noob at playing the instance I'm in. Works wonders...and eventually someone blurts out a "hahaha, you're quite the odd one, aren't you ?", then everybody goes "lol", "lmao" or other random abbreviations that eventually start up a conversation.

I usually start with the ordinary "Hi" or "Good evening" etc. If at least someone replies I feel like talking even more, but if not I`m avoiding it.
For example while in the instance you can say "Well done BM/Archer/Cleric/Team" etc., it's cheering everyone up ;)

Yeah lol i had that happen a few times. Last time it was Portuguese, before that it was Polish b:surprised

Than you really wish you never said something in the first place <_<

People who never even say "Hi" in partychatt freak me out though. Possible serial killers. It makes you look really arrogant to when you cant even bother to type in a 2 letter word.

I love random squads!!! I always approach people kindly and they usually do the same, lol. I use many smilies and compliment people's gear / fashion. :P If they start to argue about totally stupid things (duh, it happens), I sing a song or offer cookies. =D It helps!

Sometimes when I'm tired and clumsy and someone dies because of my fault, I say I'm sorry. x.x Don't worry, I have Demon Revive! =D They stay very kind and polite. My Cleric is 101 but I've never met a rude person before. It depends on you, the way you approach others. b:victory

I've met a few rude people, but usually I get the good ones. I can't wait to see what happens when I get my sin to FC level, because that no-aoe boss, you bet I'll be using AOEs. but I know WHEN to use them, so unless the party freaks out and just straight boots me it'll be fine :P

MY faction leader too my sin, it was fun and I was AOEing the boss alot with subsea, I only worried about possibly squadwiping once, but I wasn't the one that did it :) because my AOE was in cooldown at the time

and as said before. "Hey" "yo" "How's ya" they generally get some reply.

I only go on friends or faction runs cause they're more convienent for me, unless someone directly asks me, I never volunteer to go on a random squad. There's more unity and interaction with people you already know and trust, so yeah.

I usually only squad with people I know, but on the off chance I end up with people I don't know and they're creepily quiet I point at my Herc's back-**** and start laughing. Kind of hard to be serious and silent after the golden back-boobies. b:chuckle

then you must find bad squads all the time. I've never had much trouble with random squads

Not really, I don't have much reason to squad with people I don't know simply because I can pretty much solo any instance. But with limited time and resouces, I'd rather be contributing towards helping/benefitting friends and faction over people I don't know.

Another way to break the ice is where wierd fashion lol, at first you might be like "eh no thanks I dont want people to think im wierd" or something like that. But, if you saw my fashion (Pink love bird suit and pink elf boots, and no pants) you would lol and I get the same question everytime im with new people "Why dont you have any pants on?" and I reply "Who needs pants when you have gold trimmed underwear" and usually after that the squad is already joking around and its a fun run.

    Me to XD
I simply start talking about random stuf happening in the squad when it happends. Sometimes people join me, sometimes they don't and I just state random stuf as if theyr captive listners.

And sometimes I simply go leroy on my wizzy. Now that I'm lvl 101, I have even less reason to care about exp. Never going to bother about 270mil exp

    This.

I always try to be both playful and encouraging in instances. For example, if I Holy Path and get ahead of the group in a wined instance (rare, but it happens!) I'll type someting like "eehee, I'm winning!", and then if I see an archer/caster save me from a mob that the tank missed, I'll definitely thank them and comment on how nice it is to squad with good DDs.

I'm very chatty in squad, using lots of smileys and lols, and that tends to get the other playful people, at least, in on the fun. There are usually one or two who stay silent through the instance, but its okay, because the gloom has been broken.

I've added a lot of people to my Friends' List, and vice versa, by simply being a competent, sociable cleric.

if you are a veno, having a pet or two with weird names can be an ice breaker. or one that is just cute... everyone seems to think the baby dodo bear is too cute for words, and my son gave me a frog, which he named gorF- Frog spelled backwards! if someone is acting bored or cranky, i send my frog over, and do his little boost move, which has him spit up a little jet of water. usually gets people laughing...or just watching him put his hand to his face. he looks like **** Caveit and other old comedians when he does that!

I like to crack jokes,or just be polite in random squads,1 of the 2 always works and people respond in kind....

Sometimes though, you will end up in a squad with some smart *** who think they know everything about everyones class, how they should play and what they should do,what their crit rate and damage numbers are on every boss fight....then i don't say a word entire run,i know i'd just end up in an argument with em.
How to be pro at all recent COD games, lay claymore behind you at exit to room, lie down and shoot anyone coming in front door, rinse and repeat.
