Bloodpaint buff idea

With the Genesis expansion, we gained two new classes, one of which has an extraordinary ability: Seekers can cast buffs on weapons!
This got me to thinking...what older buffs would benefit from being applied in a similar way? The first buff that popped into my mind was Bloodpaint. If they made it into a weapon buff that only applied to melee weapons, it would make it so that anyone using a melee weapon could benefit from it, rather than just a few select classes. Thoughts?

i fully support this idea. this "buffing the weapon" concept seems to be one of the few genuine innovations that genesis introduced; please do let's use it more. bloodpaint's an obvious target for such use, but it surely can't be the only one, either.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0

That buff only works with mellee attacks anyway. A BM can use a bow and not get any bloodpaint benefit. Why not just make the buff all class? The cleric's magic attack buff is all class even though physical classes receive absolutely zero benefit. Wizard and Barb strength buff similarly only benefit physical classes (although magic classes using physical weapons will benefit) yet are all-class buffs.
There isnt much reason for bloodpaint to be class restricted other than to encourage even more people to reroll BMs / sins (as if there arent enough of those).[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

i dont see what the argument is... the only class that is really screwed over by bloodpaint is archers... because the majority go fist or claws (melee weapon) and they dont get the buff -- so instead of doing a round about way to change it, just say it directly... you want archers to get bloodpaint was that hard?
edit: and to me i dont see it "making people roll bms/sins" it was intended to push people to play the classes how they were originally intended to play
what makes people roll bms/sins is to have a character be 5.0... not bloodpaint0 -

Ehh I'd add foxform venos as well. Venos have melee mastery and a whole melee tree but can't get this buff. This is the only class-restricted squad buff in the game as far as I know and there isnt much good reason for it to be class-restricted at all.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I agree, and I posted in a thread a while ago concerning this. My idea is to have the buff apply to all classes (read: ALL) but still have it only available for melee attacks. This way you can have fist archers and fox form venos getting heals in melee proximity, but not when using range or magic.
This would aid the older classes and make them more versatile. (I particularly feel for Archers, as I have one myself and they always seem underhanded in the heals department..)0 -
I like this, we need some more weapon buffs.
If only to make it harder to decide between those bufs, and runes (as they don't stack). Add an extra strategic element to bufs9 out of 10 voices in my head say I'm not crazy... the 10th is singing the music of tetris0 -
bloodpaint affects all melee classes as it is. Why make it apply to melee weapons unless you think your cleric or mage needs to be stabbing something with a knife instead of blasting it with a spell0

um, no, folks have already noted that it doesn't. clawchers, fox venos, for two. but if it affected weapons such that all melee attacks with a bloodpainted weapon gave the effect, then the whole "which classes get it" debate just goes away.

What I've come to love about PWI in the 2+ years I've played it.. Is that the classes can be built in such a variety of ways.. For example.. You could build a APS wizard, or an arcane BM, granted they will completely suck.. But why not allow it? Being as once you get to 105 with +12 rank 9 gear the game pretty much dies anyway.. At least leave some bazaar class builds :P
Would totally love to see a APS wizard/psychic tanking a boss with bloodpaint.. ijs b:chuckle
EDIT: Actually I dont think psychics can even wield melee weapons..0
