DUMB....what's so freaking hard to adjust the height In the new auto pth feature..you still can see your height..I love the new feature because clicking confirm is kinda useless and is not needed.[SIGPIC]http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/image.php?type=sigpic&userid=2527935005&dateline=1300027633[/SIGPIC]

Same. >.<0 -
I did originally quite like the new one - it's more useful when you want to just adjust your heighjt a little bit.
But it's far too easy to drag the whole gump when you're aiming for the slider, I find I'm not often using the new feature, and would like the old one back.
What I'd really prefer is a much better autopath, perhaps with a sensible default of 'fly at max height' though.0 -
I don't mind it, for me it feels the same kinda to be honest, just no confirming. I still get where i need to get lol.
I like the new feature tho for new users that it takes you towards the instances where you need to head into for a boss/mob you need killed. So new users don't sit around wondering where exactly that boss/mob is located and why it's not autopathing them to the location. b:chuckle0 -

How is it the same when the elevation number's dont' stay at what you previously had it? Now we have to move the damn thing every time instead of just qquickly hitting confirm.

It's not a new feature... they finally fixed something that used to BE here then broke. lol

Lol it stays around 35-40 height for me all i have to do is a simple little drag. >> Come on people are you getting that lazy....
Also i never took notice to it before the feature that takes you to a instance if that's where you need to go for a quest....then again i only started actually questing on my seeker.0 -
Lazy? no. Wanting to "put up with" a update that takes a perfectly FINE feature that actually remembers the height all day (55 is what i usually go at), and actually making it worse? no.... just no..0
-
I don't see why people are complaining about something that was changed but still persists to be just as easy....
Just be grateful PWI even have a autopath system, majority of the MMO's i played don't so you have to sit there googling up exactly where each mob/location is that you need to go to and preguess by running around.
So i have nothing to complain about as long as we still have this feature it's all good. b:victory0 -
Eh I like it. What I hate though is the new notification thingy.. no idea what it's called, the "!" in the circle that pops up when you get an invitation or something. I never notice it because it blends in so well b:angry0

That's been around for a good deal of time. b:avoid0 -
ya but it DOES blend in a bit more now..... i have to admit i barely notice it now sometimes. Not to mention i think the sound associated with it is gone so if your backs' turned to the TV or w/e for 10 secs....... you never know.
As for the topic.... we're complaining because they took something that was perfectly fine, was quick and easy, and made it worse then before.......... I guess we shouldnt' be surprised by that though on here.
I'd rather have the # stay at where it WAS, then have to move the slider every time. Especially when i have to stop auto pathing and hit the WSAD keys to fly around something then move the slider AGAIN instead of jsut hitting confirm..... NO one in my faction likes the new box. If that gives you a clue how unliked it is. Ya... we'll get used to it (or already are). Doesnt' mean it isnt' a pain in the **** and wasn't a completely stupid change. >.<0 -
The ! notification doesn't blend in more for me, then again i have a computer build for graphic design and all that....so everything kinda pops out lol... Never had a problem missing it, even when im in the kitchen and the comp is in the living room on the desk i still see the little ! coming up. O-O' Idk tho....
Other then that, idk i'm not much of a complainer, mainly coming from different games that had no such features, it's something nice to have. b:shutup
Only thing that bugs me like no tomorrow is the ruberbanding.0 -
Lurani - Raging Tide wrote: »I don't see why people are complaining about something that was changed but still persists to be just as easy....
but it isn't just as easy. there's a clear HCI usage difference.
the old style, you aim the mouse cursor at the button (a large, stationary target) and click once; done. it's a simple UI task, because it doesn't much matter where on the button you click and there's no fine-motor skills fiddling and very little hand-eye interaction. point, click, done.
the new style, you aim the cursor at a slider bar --- not only a smaller target, but one that moves --- click it, hold down the button, drag the slider around and coordinate by watching the height read-out number. more coordination needed, more precision needed, more searching-and-finding of a moving target needed, and it takes more time on top of all.
this might seem like fiddly little details to complain about, but fiddly little details are what graphical user interfaces are entirely made up out of. fiddly little details of GUIs is what sets Apple computers apart from Wintel; it was their entire original selling point, and is still half of what selling point Apple has left. when pixels on a screen is how you interact with your computer, fiddly little details about those pixels matter.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0 -
They might matter to some, but others could really care less about. I have yet to really see anyone on RT complain about it, no one in my faction said a word or any of my friends. So idk. b:chuckle0

pff this is as good as the old oneMiddle lane, middle lane.. b:shutup0

I like the new auto path box.
(But I must admit that I suggested something similar and I can easily imagine some people complaining if they had a confirm box that only confirmed for the text entry and not for the slider.)0 -
I think it's fine.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I like it too. I hated having to confirm everything and end up running into a tower or tree etc just to drop back down. You don't even need to push fly, just move the height.0

Well it has kept me from accidentally flying at 72 in OHT and getting stuck in the floor.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

you don't need to push fly in the old version either, just click confirm. the height slider is most likely set at something reasonably high from before, since that's where most folks leave it anyway, and your toon will automatically break out the flier when you confirm on a higher-than-current altitude.
i like leaving the slider at max, clicking confirm to take off, and just hitting "z" to level off at any lower-than-max altitude i might want to fly at. works perfectly --- in the old UI, not sure about the new one.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0 -
Should revamp the whole system for it so its like their other games. :l[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

No, no it does not.
This is the exact same excuse used by those who insist on speaking in cell phone text and not using proper grammar while at the computer.
It's pure laziness. And it's pathetic. Some people risk to employ me
Some people live to destroy me
Either way they die0 -

yes, yes it does.
it doesn't take MUCH more time, but it takes more time. the more finely detailed a UI manipulation task is, the more time it always takes, because the user has to concentrate more closely on it, and the mental focus alone takes time --- as well as mental effort --- to bring to bear. for the same reason, as UI manipulation gets more complex it gets more disruptive as the user has to focus on the UI instead of on the task.
this is not rocket surgery; user interface designers actually study this stuff.
heck, the old apple macintosh universal menu bar at the top of the screen --- for all its faults --- IS faster to use. want a menu? you know where it is. just shove the mouse upwards, your pointer will hit the menu bar and stop at it. yes, you only gain very fractionally over the menu-per-window style, and it's probably not worth the cost of having your menu bar window-focus sensitive --- but you DO gain.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0 -

Your argument lacks something...
If you instantly went to the set altitude for flying, I'd agree.
However, when I start flying, I simply hold the space bar, then as I get close to my desired altitude, let it go, keep moving the slider to where I want it, and voila, I keep ascending smoothly. Therefore... NO time is wasted, at all.
Before, it was a little trickier because you had to press the space bar, let go, and hit confirm just right, or you would stop ascending, then start again, which was annoying. Or you would cancel ascending with the space bar, not notice it, go afk, come back, and find yourself dead in a world boss' fingerprint.101 Sage Sin*/Archer

It's so annoying having to drag the height marker to sixty-nine every time. Can we at least have the little box where we enter the height back? You have three chances to guess the reason for the post above.0
