Thoughts on the Heavenwear quest.

I see everywhere people mentioning the Heavenwear Fragment quest as the worst ever. I don't get it, I found that quest to be one of the most fun I ever did.

The challenge to take my lvl 4X cleric into an area with lvl 55+ mobs was exciting in and off itself, then to find mobs not crowded, and use my clerics skills just right, so I could kill them off one by one without dying. Same thing with the quest you get at lvl 4X to give a merchant some 20 element essences (which only drops from lvl 6X mobs). Me and a barb friend went over to duo mobs by the dreaming cloud area, and we got them all at the level we got the quest. Both quests were awesome :)

My only problem with them was the reward part, especially on the Heavenwear quest the reward is similar to any other questrewards you get at those levels, the element essence quest gave you around twice the xp compared to other quests at that area. With the extreme difficulty on these quests compared to the others I felt the rewards should be EPIC! Like, some awesome level 50 gear or maybe even a fortune in coins like 100k or something..

Yeah, I did these around two years ago, it was a different time.

In my perfect MMO, they would have mostly quests as challenging as these, but with much better rewards. In my mind: Fever, more challenging and rewarding quests > billions of generic and easy quests with low rewards. As in, I would rather have only one or two quests pr. level that would give me enough exp to nearly level up, instead of 5-10 which are all the same anyway.

Am I the only one who actually appreacited these quests, or are there others out there who actually enjoys a challenge ^^?

I gotta admit I kinda agree with you. It was a nice way to push myself to my limit at that point. Heck, after getting used to it, I'd start trying to see just what I could do in terms of multiple mobs, dodging white names, and the like. My only issue with the quests was, like with you, the lack of a reward that scaled with the difficulty the quest provided to someone reaching that stage for the first time.

My problem with both of those quests was overcrowding. It wasn't so bad with this character; back in the day, it seemed there were less people. But now it always seems crowded (especially Tusk Town for essences). So my low levels there mostly got the frustration of being ksed.

Heavenware I didn't mind so much. I was usually able to steal a little corner for myself.... Tusk Town was definitely the far worse of the two.

    I'd say a two reasons:

    1) Depends on your class. Some classes, let's say Wizard, simply are NOT developed very well by that point, so making them fight higher level opponents is absolute torture, let alone near a bunch of archer mobs.

    2) A lot of people probably don't know that you HAVE to deal the most damage on the mob to get the drop. If you go to a high level area and fight higher level mobs that stand in groups of 2-3, squading everyone else is in the area is the most logical thing in the world. Then after a while, when suddenly the Psychic has all but two of his drops and the barb only has one, THEN people finally catch on, and then you've got a very ticked off barb.

The quest was most irritating for me on my veno partially because it takes so long to complete, and the reward is pretty sad, and partially because of the amount of people doing the same quest. I had several people spamming me with party invites when I did it, and since you literally can't party for this quest (or it drags out much, much longer), I kept declining. Of course, those people being the nice players that they were, started following me around KSing me and still spamming me with invites. Super fun.

It wasn't awful as a veno, since it's pretty easy to lure (and much faster than having to kill full groups), but the crowd was pretty bad. Just not worth it imo, when the quest is already annoying to complete, and I didn't bother with it on my mystic.

I liked this quest for the challenge from the mob difficulty, but not the low drop rate.

Doing this quest was hardest on my cleric and easiest on my wizard. Then again, my cleric was the first character I did it on and my wizard was my third. My mystic will likely do it easily. I never had issues with overcrowding as it was usually just myself and one or maybe two others doing that quest.

Why I hated that quest so much?

    1) I was a wizard--a super squish one at that. And they are archer mobs. That aggro 2-3 at a time.

    2) Because the drop rate was just horrid (and what Longknife said is true--you can be in a squad and every one in the squad will not have the same amount of drops), it took me maybe 3 fricken weeks to get that quest done.

    3) Then the next part of that quest requires leather and thread. Which I had enough of one mat, but zero of the other. So I had to buy it. And them things are expensive (even more so now--people are buying leather on DW for 10k a pop).

Another evil quest was The Punishment. Which started innocent enough as a kill mobs for x drops quest, then tells you to get 50 hay. 5k a pop at the cheapest on DW and the quest is a level 7x quest and hay drops from level 3x (at the highest level possible) mobs. I trashed that **** so fast because there is no way in hell I'm spending 250k for freaking hay. Unless they are gonna reward me with 1 mil coin at the end.

You're supposed to do that quest at 5x I'm sure, I remember my first time doing that quest, it was a nightmare, not fun lol, then much later in the game when I used another char, I tried it at level 5x when the mobs were my level and I got the drops pretty fast, as well as it being much easyier to kill them.
