DirectX version used by PWI?

At frankieraye's suggestion, I'm posting here in hopes that the right eye sees it. b:pleased

Which version of DirectX does PWI use? I know some other PWE games are using DX 8.1, but it seems that PWI is at 8.0. (But I'm not 100% positive on that at this moment, hence the question.)

I'm working on adding support for PWE's games to Mumble, which is a daunting task since DX 9 made overlays far saner.

If I can do the work just once (for 8.1), I'll be happier. b:laugh

Of course, if anyone at PWE wants to talk about details in private and close this thread, that's perfectly OK with me. b:victory

    Uh. No.

    [edit]Translation: It's using Direct3D 8, which is part of DirectX 8.[/edit]

I have DirectX 9.0c and PWI works great. All shaders work and there are no graphical glitches. DX9 is backwards compatible for most games....only a few really old games have problems. I bet DX8.1 works just as well (if not better) than 8.0 too. I don't know why you would want to run it on such an old DX though....

Yes, I'm asking about which version it's coded in so I can code another program to be more aware of the game for a better experience for players. The version of the runtime is irrelevant, what I need to know is related to the source code, which is not available to me. :)

For the people who were aware of my goal with this thread, I have to say that I'm essentially abandoning my project.

The overwhelming lack of response from PWE on even the simplest technical questions (such as this one) indicates that ongoing maintenance will be practically impossible, as the game is likely to eventually break things.

Here's to hoping they move to a modern DirectX in the near future so I don't have to write support for multiple DirectX versions (and hoping that all their games use the same version that I get working for PWI), or that they become more communicative in the future. Watching past events and also this forum, my hopes aren't pegged on either any time soon. b:surrender

(The funny thing is that I passed the idea by frankieraye prior to starting this thread and got a positive response and a pointer to this sub-forum. *sigh*)
