Minor localization fixes! ;)

Since PWE seems to be big on "Minor localization fixes", I thought I'd suggest some for ReportBugs since I see it a few times per day... b:surrender
Unclear or misspelt text is highlighted in a pink box. Red arrow indicates where a word is missing. Green text is added/corrected text.
Of course, if no one actually deals with the output of ReportBugs, I suppose leave it how it is? b:surrender

Well if they want to localize... I suggest that the elemental belts will be elemental belts not "spice bags" and bound things should say "bound", not "binding charm".[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

It was mostly something to kill a couple minutes while ReportBugs told me the submission was successful.
But yeah. Changing item names is major. People are supposed to see those. No one's ever supposed to see ReportBugs. b:chuckle
BTW, the things you mentioned are just changes in the last patch. It's likely they'll fix them. Eventually.[sigpic][/sigpic]

I got bored during maintenance and did the localization myself. Link to download.
PWE, please feel free to use it as-is if you don't want to take the time to do the work yourselves. b:laugh
Changelog:
* Minor localization fixes. b:chuckle
All that I changed were strings. No executable code was altered. This can be easily verified with a binary differencing tool.
If someone at PWE would prefer that I send it to you via a more trustworthy method (e.g. attached to a signed and encrypted email), I am more than willing to do so. b:victory[sigpic][/sigpic]

(N.B.: PWE, this is provided on the same terms as before. Including what I previously PMed a GM.)
OK, I got bored again a couple hours ago... So, I'm flogging this dead horse some more! b:chuckle
Latest version.
Photo album showing before and after.
Changelog since previous upload:
* More updated strings! b:victory (Should be more user-friendly now, by far!)
* Added a mention to the support site to the window's header.
* Moved form elements around and resized the window.
* Changed the font to Trebuchet from the default chosen by Windows. (Appears to be MS Sans?)
* New icons! It doesn't look like it's a Windows 95 era program anymore! (Sometimes you CAN dress a pig up and make it presentable!)
* Followed the Microsoft guidelines while updating the VERSIONINFO Resource this time. (VS_FF_PRIVATEBUILD is now set, and the PrivateBuild string credits/blames me.)
* Updated the VERSIONINFO Resource to know it's an "English (United States)" app instead of "Chinese (Simplified)".
* Updated the list headers, now that I found where they are stored.
* Changed window style of the list box, to accommodate UI guidelines for non-editable lists.
* Most dialog boxes that a user may encounter should now make more sense.
* All user-facing Chinese text should now be removed completely from the app.
* XP-style application manifest added (welcome to the year 2001, app!), specifying that it should run "asInvoker" and thus ensuring that Vista/7's Virtualized Folders are properly taken into account. Also, set uiAccess to "False" as the app doesn't need to do anything with keystrokes in other windows. A precaution, "just in case".
* Probably a couple more things that I forgot.
Again, this was done without touching the binary code (only strings and other resources). As far as I can tell, it should still be submitting the same data to the same WanMei server. I'm sure a quick trip through a disassembler would show that quickly. b:victory
Note that I've not actually replaced my installation's creportbugs.exe with my own version, as that would be a ToS violation. So, it's 100% untested aside from making sure the UI comes up.
And since no one at PWE seems to be showing any interest in this thread (even after PMing the GM most likely to have this app in their purview), perhaps people interested in seeing the bug reporter actually becoming a useful-looking app instead of something that confuses new players (so they just hit Cancel) should open tickets stating such and referencing this thread?
Also, now that there are screenshots, any feedback from the playerbase? I, of course, like how it looks now.[sigpic][/sigpic]

I must say, bravo. You've made ReportBugs look like a legit application. You've just gained major respect points.
If I may, from Vista onwards, the default font on windows is Segoe UI. You're using Vista, so you might want to try that font and see if it looks better. I'm kinda partial on the bug icon, though... Other than that it's great.[sigpic][/sigpic]LOVE

Thank you. b:cute Hopefully, PWE agrees. :PYukkuri - Heavens Tear wrote: »If I may, from Vista onwards, the default font on windows is Segoe UI. I can't use Segoe UI on XP with complete certainty. If it's not installed, it won't look any better than it does now! b:cry So I went with a font similar to that they use elsewhere for consistency, and is almost certainly installed.
And you're saying you actually like the 16 color 1995-looking traffic light? b:surrender
Also, keep in mind my main reason for wanting to see ReportBugs look like something reputable is so we can actually submit feedback to the devs through the only direct mechanism we seem to have. b:surrender It doesn't need to be perfect (and really can't be without access to the source code), just good enough that people might actually fill it out! b:victory[sigpic][/sigpic]

Oh no no, the font thing was if you wanted to try. Just to check if it looks good or not, I won't shove my opinions.
No, I don't prefer the ancient traffic light. I'm just not fond of ladybugs for some reason. b:surrender
I kinda wonder, though... If the devs do take a look at these reports.[sigpic][/sigpic]LOVE

Yeah, I would have used it if it were supported on XP. Since PWI is still supported on XP, a font that works there has to be chosen. b:surrenderYukkuri - Heavens Tear wrote: »No, I don't prefer the ancient traffic light. I'm just not fond of ladybugs for some reason. b:surrender
Well, this was my second choice: A beaten up traffic cone.Yukkuri - Heavens Tear wrote: »I kinda wonder, though... If the devs do take a look at these reports.
I'm 99.5% positive the devs don't look at the forum, if that's what you mean. But if you mean the results of sending these reports, well... At least it goes to their servers, and not PWE's... It's a circumstance that is at least promising.
As for whether PWE looks in the Suggestion Box, I don't think it's coincidental that it's the subforum listed just above the Off-Topic Discussion. b:surrender[sigpic][/sigpic]

I gotta say your renewed version looks pretty good. I never payed attention to the bug report tbh. All I saw was some strange text that I didn't understand so I always click it away...
Your report bugs looks a lot cleaner and more logical. I would actually take some time to look at it and fill it in.
Or maybe they just don't want us to fill it in so they make it look like something crazy b:surrender[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

the game client crashes on start-up for me, about 50% of the time, seemingly at random. this brings up reportbugs every time, without fail.
i never report the bug. partly because this is all while running on an unsupported platform (wine/linux), but mostly because when i try... reportbugs crashes! b:laugh
that said, great work, Fintan. yours looks like a UI that might not have been designed by me, which is a vast improvement on what's there currently.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0 -

Well, this probably will still crash (feel free to download it and test it on wine... I hadn't thought of that yet...) because it's still the same ol' MFC app. All I did was edit the strings and localization resources. However, because I've removed almost every Chinese character from the app, it may now work. (I seem to recall poking at ReportBugs on Wine before and determining wine didn't like the Chinese font name, and I didn't have the willpower to bother figuring out the cause as I couldn't get PWI to play back then...)
I'd be curious to know if this ends up making it work on wine or not. b:victory (If it does, it'd actually be a first step towards PWI eventually having "native" Mac and Linux clients. But I expect that's not even on PWE's radar since they can't even respond to this thread...)LenieClarke - Heavens Tear wrote: »that said, great work, Fintan. yours looks like a UI that might not have been designed by me, which is a vast improvement on what's there currently.
Thanks for the kind words on the look of the UI. Keep in mind that most of the ugliness is because they're using a Chinese font none of us actually have on our systems, it's translated badly, and uses an icon from before some of the PWI players were born. b:surrender
If they had just changed the font for the English localization, and actually translated it better so people didn't go "WTF is a Role Name?", this wouldn't have been bugging me for so many years...
If I get bored tonight, I may poke at it again. There were a couple more things I wanted to see if I could do to make it look moar betterererer. b:chuckle[sigpic][/sigpic]

(Sorry, Waterfal, but the forum kept eating all my replies to your post! b:cry But I was just trying to make the point in my reply that it's the same exact program, just localized better. I don't have access to the source code, so everything the program actually does is identical to the ugly one!)
And, I got bored again, so I spent a couple more minutes poking at this thing! b:victory (I spend longer on posting!)
ChangeLog:
* Changed icon from a ladybug. b:chuckle
* Changed dialog box styles to make the whole shebang not fail to appear if there's a problem drawing something.
* Changed dialog box styles to hopefully perform better while the system is recovering from the game crashing.
* Updated "Description" text and resized the description box accordingly.
* Forced "Description" box vertical scrollbar to always be visible, so people aren't afraid they can only type a couple of lines.
* Changed font to system default. (I knew there was a way! b:victory)
* A couple of other very minor changes that I can't recall specifics of.
Updated download link. Available under same terms and conditions, with the same caveats, as before, of course. Extra commas for your protection! b:pleased (BIG NOTE: I HAVE NOT USED THIS TO ACTUALLY SUBMIT A BUG REPORT STILL, AS MY READING OF THE TERMS OF SERVICE IS THAT DOING SO WOULD BE A VIOLATION OF THEM.)[sigpic][/sigpic]
