Allowable: Changing to the Old UI (aka The new UI. Vs the old.)

Well I found somthing interesting today, helping people get into char creation since the UI jumped around a lot upon login and didnt support really low resolutions to display all the buttons properly.

So editing the UI resize in the ini before you load the game is a nice workaround, but look at the file....:
[Info]
card = Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family
driver = igdumdx32.dll
version = 8.15.0010.2202
vendor = 00008086
deviceid = 00002a42
subsysid = c059144d
guid = {D7B78E66-6902-11CF-677F-53E0A9C2C535}

[Video]
Level = 4

WaterEffect = 0
SimpleTerrain = 1
TreeDetail = 0
GrassDetail = 0
CloudDetail = 0
Shadow = 0
MipMapBias = 1
FullGlow = 0
SpaceWarp = 1
SunFlare = 1
AdvancedWaterUD = 1
RenderWid = 1200
RenderHei = 715
TexDetail = 0
SoundQuality = 0

WideScreen = 0
ScaleUI = 0
VerticalSync = 0
Gamma = 48

[Audio]
SoundVol = 34
MusicVol = 0

[UI]
Theme = 1

You see that bottom one? Theme? Chance it to 0 and it brings up the old UI. Theres some nasty text overflow in the chat box, but aside that its b:dirty Compared to the new one.

Intriguingly it grants an option in the menu to switch to the new one, so id like to know:

Since its there (Slightly buggyly il admit) why is the option to switch not properly available? It WAS said we could switch, and its clear it was at least partially implemented. Any answers forthcoming? b:puzzle

EDIT:

Look to page 2/3 for the mods posts bout it being fine for the purpose of going around the UI issues. Currently :

"I add that it also adds the Event calendar back, makes the Alerts obvious again (Party invites etc), makes the skill boxes have no click-through spaces, shrinks them to a usable size on smaller displays (Better than the UI shrink on the new UI does), and most of all, Lets genie skills work on the whole image, not just the bottom right corner. Also makes text overflows a bit insane in places but eh, funtionality > Beauty right?" - from my post on page 2.

Also, the main point was that it allows the character creation UI to be usable on very,very low resolutions.

Post if youve any more questions.

    Everything has its beginnings, but it doesn't start at one. It starts long before that... The world is born From zero. The moment zero becomes one is the moment the world springs to life. One becomes 2. 2 becomes 10. 10 becomes 100. taking it all back to one solves nothing. so long as zero remains... One.. Will eventually grow to 100 again.

    It isnt a cheat, it doesnt affect gameplay, only the graphics on my end. And it makes it so much more playable.

    The .ini editing that people get banned for is character template editing, and even that is not bannable (I copy pasted my Clerics main features to my Wizard (No feathers or illegal hair)) so long as you dont use anything that that class / gender cannot have. I.E Having **** of 255 Size or Tideborn hairstyles on Human Characters. IT affects other peoples gameplay, because other people can see.

    Seriously, if I got banned for that id be damn surprised. Stop trying to look like some do-gooder, your just being an ***.

    Honestly, I'm not sure.

    As in the example Infernia gave, it can even be a recommendation if it helps you play the game without giving you access to things you wouldn't normally have.

    On the other hand we have this post which says editing ini files is bannable (which was later clarified here).

    If I had to guess, I'd say it's decided by whether it gives your character access to things you don't normally have in the game.

    Changing ScaleUI and Theme don't give your character access to things you don't normally have in the game, it just changes how the interface looks.

    Now, if you use those settings I doubt they'd say that they're fully supported, and they may cause weird side effects, but it's not like you're giving your character hair that (s)he wouldn't normally have access to in the game or something like that.

    Still, I'd like to see some clarification from FrankieRaye on this, as being able to edit those two settings are "access to gameplay" settings, not "character hax" settings.

    I'll send FrankieRaye a note pointing him to this thread.

    lol

    That thread was for humans with suboptimal computers which had issues with lag in which darth prescribed specific .ini file edits. You are obviously not following his prescription & "cherry picking" his words to benefit your goals.

    Also what you're doing doesn't make the game any more or less playable.
    o.o'
    Tis just your own shortcomings and opinions. (The new AI isn't trying to blind you or anything.)

    "Enhanced playability" is a rather flimsy argument. Me could argue that attempting TT 3-3 as a wizard makes the game unplayable for me (can't get mats which mean me can't get gear which mean me can't do anything that requires said gear, etc.)
    So that makes it okie to summon Ban Hamster form to solo & 1 hit kill 3-3 bosses & farm mats makes it more playable for me & hey, it's not affecting any one else's gameplay since me am soloing it & no one can see me.
    x.x'

    & others could argue that botting makes the game more playable since they can get to higher level content having had farmed monies and level by doing virtually no work.

    Also part (e) Interfere with or disrupt the Service.
    You (as an outside 3rd party entity.) messing with the game client which is part of the "Service."
    Q_Q

    But me own views?
    Meh, tis just affecting how you view the theme. There be more ban worthy things out there.

    Me ish going to check with Frankie if that's allowed, until then thread is being closed and code is being removed. b:avoid

    Personal opinion : Well since we don't have the normal option ( yea, the 'normal option' where you click a button and POOF! you have the old UI ) I think we should not play around with teh code b:quiet But that's just my opinion.

    Will redirect this to Frankie and he will throw some light on this issue.

    And don't spam me with PMs why the thread is closed or I`ll release my kittehs to nom teh hamsta!

    Hey guys, this is an interesting situation, and I'll need to talk to Xarfox and the leader of the GMs before we can say for sure whether or not we'd allow this modification.

    I'll post in here again within a couple of hours.

    Thanks.

    Okay guys, we have an official reply from Mr. Frankieraye about this modification of the ini files. Here's a quote of the original post :

    We'll allow that specific modification since it helps you get into the game, so go ahead :)

    Any other ini modification not explicitly provided by GM will still be considered a violation of the ToS though.

    Good luck :)

    Original post updated and and code added again.
    Thanks Sangodoc for updating me via PM. b:thanks

    Good luck!

    The client has to be closed to save the edit.

    If your getting that error trying to open it, I have no idea whats up aside Grims suggestion of it being marked read-only for some reason or the folder needing to be accessed from admin accounts :(

    thanks much for this; the "new" UI is just too... enlarged... to fit well in a 1024x768 windowed mode, which is how i do a lot of my gaming. will use this tip to change back to the old skin next time i go to start up the client, hopefully i'll be able to get my hotkey bars back to where i want them again.

    (oy, i am feeling so old right now. i can remember when 1024x768 was as high as PC screen resolutions could get...)

    Since we are on subject of modifying INI files. Anyone know what color code templet PW uses? I've been trying for a rather different shade of pink for my hair then I already have. I'm not good with useing the color chooser in the create character ap. So I'm hopeing I can get the right color with the code.

    Or if Sangodoc can give me the code for Cherry's hair color that would be nice.

    Do I understand correctly that using the new UI you have to click on genie skills in the bottom right corner for them to work? b:shocked That could explain the trouble I've been having since the expansion in using Holy Path and Cloud Eruption.

    Thanks for posting this. I am using it now; I really dislike the way you can't tell where to click to change what chat you are in, but that seems to be the only disadvantage. And at this point the advantages outweigh that.

    However, if any GMs are still checking this thread I'd like to say it would be great if you could pass on to the Devs that we would like some simple change to the new UI so that we could change it back and not have to deal with this disadvantage. For example, the genie problem, which I had thought was a bug. The second biggest reason I am keeping the old is the fact that I was continually missing squad invites with the new... they are just not visible enough. And lastly, for anyone who plays with wide screen in windowed mode, the skill bars are simply too big. There was no reason to make them that much larger; I felt like I lost half my screen to them. The difference is even more shocking now that I have changed back.
