Question about high lvl mage gear

Hello PWI.

I am a cleric lvl99 and I have a question regarding what type of gear I should get. Currently I have been thinking about keep the following pieces of equipment as my final set:

Warsoul of heaven
Rank 8 body armor
Sacred Legate Pants
Archangel Boots
Archangel Wrist
Wheel of light
LG cape
-6% channeling neck and belt
Sign of antiquity chaos
General's badge

Recently I have heard that full sacred legate is also very good. Some people abandon channeling items for better other stats. To me, I really like channeling, but I also want to be able to stay alive. It seems that Sacred Legate armor is for the latter, while my prior plans were for channeling. What do you all suggest? Please give me feedback if you have either of the two sets listed above, or something similar. I take feedback from anyone, though. If you have anything other suggestions for me, I will take them too.

I do a swap between gears. I have channeling and def depending on the situation at lvl 99 I'll be swapping gear between AA chars. So I'll be wearing the following:

Warsoul of Heaven
Archangel Top
Archangel Legs (will be moving to Nirvana Leggings)
Archangel Wrists
Archangel Boots
LG Channeling Cape (belongs to cleric only)
Warsong Belt - can be swapped to a channeling belt
Warsong Neck - can be swapped to a channeling neck
X2 Sign of antiquity chaos

Neon Purgatory as weapon (belongs to cleric only)

I'd rather run with lower channeling and be able to take the aoe hits and live in some instances. But if in an instance where that's not needed run full channeling.

Granted the gear is completely sharded for a different char but should make it easier for the cleric. Since this is an alt char I highly doubt I'll look at rank gear.

The neck and the belt is one of the most highest defense gear slots you will get for your cleric............so.. yeah dont do that.
Solsong put a nice setup thats pretty balanced.
You might also want to opt for the pdef cape. Not sure about your server but there are rarely any endgame mages that substitute a -6% channeling cape for a possible 800+pdef cape (once sharded)
Lunar nirvana Dragon Rise Pants has -3% channeling
TT nirvana hands have -6% channeling

mine is a defense/damage build
if your going to get 2nd cast nirvana types you might as well settle for a mix than a full set.
If you dont get a combo of 2, or 5, or 6 gear then the nirvana bonus will not procure

and of course, keep some cheap swappable -%channeling gear just in case. >.>

That looks really good, just fix the ornaments. I had a set of -chan OHT neck and belt that I swapped out with my cube neck and warsong belt for pdef. Just spam refines for HP and keep in mind that G15 nirvy refines better than TT99/8jun armor.

as far as the phoenix dance gear are concerned i do not know the current price for essences it since i got mine back when PWI first rereleased the 2nd wave of packs. Chromatic/Unknown Tinder is farmable or you can buy it at the chip merchant in 1k

Im not sure of your server price so i cant really say but you can most likely half this price by doing your own nirvana runs

I have heard people talk a lot of **** about DoTs, but if I am correct, the DoT adds one percent attack damage, and therefore is about 120 damage. It is a lot cheaper than garnet gems, in my opinion. But i do wonder, do DoTs increase the power of skills such as IH, or do they only increase damage?

Meh I prefer +2 def stones or garnets but that's just me. Keep in mind that DoTs do nothing for your defenses, but I am sure you knew that.

96 Mold cape is a good cape, but NOT worth +10'ing, imo anyway. Go with either the trophy mode cape with +343 pdef (refines the same but lets you restat out some str) or the cloudcharger cape (refines slightly better) if you want to refine. Good luck getting those adds on the Nirvy weapon... It's doable but may cost you quite a bit to get right (or maybe not, chanced things being what they are). I thought it was a good idea to mix and match Nirvy sets to get the att level bonus twice.

Thanks Decus, I will probably switch out the robe for the glorious torment, and have both the torment and the LG cape. The cloudcharger cape looks really good, but apparently, its like 350mil. As for the weapon, it shows my ideal, not what I expect to get anytime soon.

By the way, how much are Jades of Defense (+2 DEF) or DoDs (+1 DEF) in our server? I have never seen them on sale. Also, I dont know where I can find whether DoTs increase heal power, rather than just damage. Do you know anything about this?

I did not choose to get the LG nirvana set because that would take away the channeling bonus. I feel that the Rank 8 Robe is really cheap for what it is worth, and I find that the Dragon Rise body takes this opportunity away.

Well, as far as pricing is concerned. I have not played in some time, so I cannot really give a good approximation for what costs what now since I played at a different time and in a different economic situation. My golden rule-of-thumb-suggestion-thing is to merchant constantly so that you are guaranteed a source of income. Through this, eventually fiscal considerations become irrelevant because anything is (literally) possible. It just takes time.

From what I recall, DoT's increase attack level, which has nothing to do with heals. The formula for attack damage (not base magic attack, which is the thing that affects heals) is the only thing affected by attack level. I would reference the post with the accurate calculations, but I really don't have the time to look for it now. I am sure a search would turn it up.

Also, as an aside, JoSD are crafted by two (I think!) DoDs anyway so their cost is directly proportional to the cost of DoDs.

you need 3 DoD for a JoSD and 3 DoT for a DoD. i think i saw DoDs for 6mil? not sure.
DoTs are 1-2mil, due to the absence of packs sales they are ~2mil atm.

The r8 glaive is a very good weapon, and I assume it is way cheaper now due to it being more accessible than ever. Keep in mind that the G15 Nirvy wand has randomized addons, so you are guaranteed the -chan and +crit with the r8 weap whereas you aren't necessarily guaranteed good adds from nirvy. Of course, you'll look like everyone else and their mothers wielding it, but it's effective, so who cares?

So on my armor, if I put DEF LVL stones like DoD or JoSD, they give a reduced physical and magical damage taken by 1% in all cases (like if you had lvl 100DEF you cant be damaged)? Or is it just 1% boost to my existing gear defense?

I am stretching back here, but I think the formula for defense level calculation is:

x*(0.99)^(def lvl) -> dmg recieved

Where x is your dmg taken, factoring in elemental/physical resistances/reductions, attk level of enemy, etc... Because of the formula, it's impossible to block out all damage with a 100 def level. (e.g. Say some wizzie hits you for 8k dmg from some ulti, after all resistances and what have you were taken into account, and you have a def level of 100, then you'd take 2928 dmg.)

(EDIT: This is, of course, assuming I am correct in remembering the formula... Someone more up-to-date feel free to correct me.)

A more accurate formula would be:

If your attack level (A) is greater than your opponent's defense level (D) then:
new damage = old damage * [ 1 + (A-D)/100 ]

If your defense level (D) is greater than your opponent's attack level (A) then:
new damage = old damage / [ 1 + 1.2*(D-A)/100 ]
