Character Names

Ok so how do character names work? I mean if I create a character to save a name (for the new xpack) can I then delete that character before the xpack becomes available (7 days before or however long it takes), will that name be available for use again?

Also is there a way to find out if someone is using a name on the server without actually creating the character? Since it takes so long to remove it?

1) Assuming that you created this character with the desired name about 2 weeks ago or more, then you can delete the character before the expansion.

However, the cut-off time was something like 12am-3am PST for it to be available by after maint next week. So if you haven't deleted it yet, you'll have to wait a day (or longer depending on how long you waited) to make the new char with the name due to the 7-day rule.

2) The only way I figured out how to find out if someone is using a name on the server is to add the name to your blacklist. If it says that player doesn't exist, then that means it's free for taking.
