You target yourself - you can do so by clicking the little avatar next to your hp/mp/exp bar. No point in doing so unless you have a sage/demon version, though.

Actually as long as you're not targetting another player the spark will only affect you. You can be targetted on a mob or have no target selected. I tend to only click my avatar if I have had another player targeted.

Sage version has a chance to give two sparks, but consumes one spark. Demon version gives one spark, but has a chance not to consume a spark. So either way, there is a chance to generate 2 sparks out of one. Regular Lending Hand is just one spark for one spark, though.

Sage - always give a single spark with a chance of not consuming one.
Demon - chance to give two sparks and always consumes one.

But casting Lending Hand on yourself has the same results with either choice. The only difference is that Sage has a slightly higher proc rate.

Sage - always give a single spark with a chance of not consuming one. (25%chance)
Demon - chance to give two sparks and always consumes one. (20%chance)

The chance from both skills looks really low....
    Sage 1/4 casts
    Demon 1/5 casts

In practice, it's not as bad as it looks. There's only a 15 second cooldown and the cast/channel is fairly quick, so really, you're looking at about a free spark every minute or so.

Also take in to account that you can cast it while waiting for slower squad members to catch up, or just when running around in general.

It may not be as effective as a sin's Inner Harmony, but it procs enough to make it worth it.

give yourself a spark? this is something i've never heard of before. dont you already have at least two, as seen at the end of the blue mana bar? why shoot one of them to yourself, when that is already on tap for use in the spark skill?b:puzzled

Until you get the sage/demon version of lending hand - no there's no point to it.
It costs a spark, you gain a spark - you stay where you were, and now lending hand is on cooldown.

With the sage version, that's what usually happens too - but there's a chance of it costing you a spark, and gaining you two sparks; leaving you with one more spark than you started with.

The demon version, similarly, has a chance of NOT costing you a spark, but still gaining you a spark - leaving you with one more spark than you started with.

More useful to use it on other people, who can actually DO something with the sparks, in my opinion - but it's a way to accelerate your sparks nonetheless.
