Wizards, what are they good for?
Unfortunately, not a whole lot. Wizards in instances with full parties are a rare occurance indeed. Even before the APS craze, it was somewhat difficult to get into an instance because archers and venos were much better DD, and maybe one or two wizards had Rank8 weapon. We are, however, decent in PvP (not the best in terms of world PvP) but we are also the undisputed powerhouses of Territory Wars. Let's take a look at pros and cons.
PvE Pros
- Great for grinding
- High DPH
- Dragon's Breath is great for Delta (or any rebirth)
- Morning Dew provides a secondary heal to any party
- Can tank most/all magic bosses and some physical thanks to high M.def and barriers
PvE Cons
- Grinding is almost obsolete
- DPH does not compare to DPS
- Delta is only one aspect of PvE
- Not many parties need a healer due to APS + Bloodpaint
- Can only tank when your party (most likely) refrains from doing max DPS as to avoid stealing aggro.
PvP Pros
- High spike damage (hello charm bypass/oneshot?)
- Excellent kiting skills
- useful silence (only one genie skills breaks silence)
- 30 metre range of attacks
- Wizards are among the few classes that can destroy all armor types. Even robes with undine take a lot of damage, not to mention BT.
PvP Cons
- Squishy (for the most part)
- Slow casting skills
- Lack of stuns/paralyzes
- Sins eat you for breakfast (as they do most classes)
TW Pros
- TW is hectic, unless someone is aiming for you, you won't be focused out
- 30 metre range, pew pew pew.
- Three 2 spark ultis with massive damage (hitting 8 people is fun)
- Great for killing cata barbs
- Full buffed + Distance Shrink + Decent Gear means you aren't too easy to kill.
- Magic damage ****.
Builds
Arcane Armour:
The most used armour type for mages, as it allows us to maximize our damage potential (as well as it being default armour). The builds for this pure magic (1 strength, 9 magic every 2 levels) which caps out at 54 strength (most you'll ever need for any gear), and Vitality/Magic hybrid (1 strength 1-3 vit, 6 magic every 2 levels). Note that you NEED 3 magic per level to wear weapons of your level, so vit cannot exceed 3 per 2 levels.
Light Armour
This build is useful for heightened physical defense at lower levels. The build itself has a stat gain of 1 str 1 dex 3 magic per level. You cannot add vitality unless you wear lower level light armour or have str/dex/magic add-ons on pieces of gear/jewelry. I personally used this build from 1-90, and although I loved it, I know there was a lot more world PvP in those days (ie. over grind spots like fish/undines) and that we used to level a lot slower (5-7 hours a day on exp scroll at fish to level once a week at 85-90, yeah...). With hyper stones and frost now, I would not recommend this build. If you like to take it slow and enjoy 6x-9x PvP, feel free to use this build. I remember **** archers all day long with gush sandstorm and being hit for almost nothing.
Heavy Armour
I do not recommend this nor do I know much about it. All I know is at end game you require a lot of +str/dex/magic gear to pull off gear your level + a weapon your level. This will require minimum magic, so your magic damage will suffer as much as LA.
Importance of Wizards in PWI
Wizards are important for one thing: Territory Wars. Other than that, we can be exchanged and interchanged with any other class for any other purpose. This is a sad, sad fact. With that said, I think Wizards are ballin' out of control.
Wizard's Skills
Ahh good ol' skills. What would we be without them? Boring APS classes that's what. Let's take a look into what goodies we have in our arsenal. *NOTE: All skills shown will be level 10, with Demon and Sage counterparts added in coloured text*
Pyrogram - 28.5/30m Range. Deals 100% of weapon damage + 1379.6 / 3620
Sage version grants a 20% chance to gain 30 chi on a successful hit
Demon version reduces channeling time to 1.2 seconds
One of 3 basic skills, and will forever be useful to you. I advise maxing this skill ASAP. It is a projectile skill with fast channel and fast cast, and you will forever use it in all aspects of PWI.
Gush - 28.5/30m Range. Deals 100% of weapon damage + 1372.6 / 3390. Has a 92% chance to slow enemy's move speed by 40% for 8 seconds.
Sage version increases slow to 45% and duration by 1 second
Demon version gives an extra 600 damage
Another of 3 basic skills, fastest cast/channeling of any skill with % modifier. You will definitely use this all the time, max it ASAP. The slow will help with kiting mobs (or people).
Stone Rain - 28.5/30m Range. Deals 200% of weapon damage + 2119.4 / 4804.
Sage version reduces channeling time to 1.6 seconds
Demon version has a 20% chance to stun for 5 seconds
Third in our basic arsenal, stone rain is our first 200% weapon modifier skill with a hefty 2119 damage added on at level 10. This skill is great for water mobs, max ASAP.
Pyroshell - Self-buff. Increases Fire Defense by 100%, and health regeneration by 10/second
Sage version increases Fire Defense to 150%
Demon version increases health regeneration to 15/second
Fire defense and health regen, the regen is negligible, especially in combat mode where it is reduced to 25%. I left this level 1 till 101
Glacial Embrace - Self-buff. Increases Water Defense by 100%, and mana regeneration by 10/second.
Sage version increases Water Defense to 150%
Demon version increases mana regeneration to 15/second
Water defense and mana regen. Great shield for grinding (2.5m/s adds up when you grind a lot) and great for magic water mobs. Max if you want.
Earth Barrier - Self-buff. Increases Physical Defense by 100%, and Earth Defense by 100%
Sage version increases Physical Defense to 120%, and Earth Defense to 150%
Demon version increases Physical Defense to 150%
100% pdef and earth defense. No brainer here, max ASAP. Only PvP shield and great for physical mobs too!
Crown of Flames - 28.5/30m Range. Deals base magic damage + 3012.9 / 5693 over 15 seconds.
Sage version increases Fire Damage (of the DoT) by 15%
Demon versions decreases the duration of the burn by 3 seconds
Our damage over time spells kinda blow. I wouldn't recommend getting past level 1.
Hailstorm - 28.5/30m Range. Deals base magic damage + 1794.9 / 3160, has a 33% chance to paralyze target for 4 seconds. Higher level gives wider range.
Sage version deals an extra 3160 water damage to those who were paralyzed by the spell
Demon version increases the chance to paralyze to 50%
Low damage, on demand AoE. I love hailstorm, and I would recommend maxing it whenever you can.
Divine Pyrogram - 28.5/30m Range. Deals 300% weapon damage + 2994.7 / 4903
Reduces enemy fire resistance by 20% for 15 seconds
Reduces channeling time to 2.5 seconds
300% weapon damage and quick casting. This spell is perfect for use with Essential Sutra and in combination of genie Spark, other than that I do not use it often.
Morning Dew - 28.5/30m Range. Heals target for 1000 HP + 30% of base magic attack.
Sage version gives a 10% chance to fully heal the target
Demon version also grants a heal over time, healing 200 HP every 3 seconds, three times.
On demand heal. I left this fairly low until I was higher level, I basically kept it so it would heal me to full whenever I used it. As I leveled I got more HP and was forced to increase it. Very useful
Pitfall - 28.5/30m Range. Deals base magic damage + 3600.8 / 5891 over 15 seconds. Slows the enemy speed by 15% and has a 15% chance to paralyze target for 3 seconds.
Sage version increases slow effect to 20%
Demon version increases paralyze chance to 33%
Pitfall is a tricky skill. Damage over time skills suck, but I leveled this to 10 just for the range increase. I use it as a quick finisher when gush is on cooldown.
Dragon's Breath - 6m Casting Range. Consumes 300 / 350 mana every 3 seconds to inflict base magic damage + 4458.2 / 4800 in a 12m area around the caster. Consumes 1 spark.
Sage version has a 20% chance to stun each target inside the spell
Demon version grants a 25% chance to gain 500 life (once per 'tick') *NEEDS VERIFICATION*
Our constant AoE spell. Allows us to Zhen and rebirth very efficiently, level up slowly but surely, try not to max right away or you may regret all the aggro you take.
Wellspring Quaff - Self-Buff. Increases maximum MP by 60% for 30 minutes. Consumes 1 spark.
Sage version grants 100% bonus to weapon damage for 15 seconds.
Demon version grants a 20% channeling bonus for 15 seconds
Useful for increasing max mana when you are grinding. Double & triple spark will recover more mana overall. Max if you want, Essential Sutra requires level 5.
Distance Shrink - N/A Range. Instantly moves you 25m forward in direction you are facing. Requires 20 chi.
Sage version reduces chi cost to 10.
Demon version moves you 30m forward instead of 25
Maxmaxmaxmaxmax. One of the defining skills of a mage, max asap!
Will of the Phoenix - 10m Range. Deals 100% weapon damage + 3534.4 / 5395.0 in an 18m line in front of you, also knocks mobs 18m back.
Sage version decreases cooldown by 1 second
Demon version increases AoE size by 50%
Very powerful, quick casting spell. Downside is you have to be fairly close to your target. Great in PvE for knocking back mobs, great in PvP for damage+AoE
Frostblade - 28.5/30m Range. Buffs target with water damage equal to 30 / 40% of your base magic attack. Lasts 15 minutes.
Sage version increases effect duration to 30 minutes.
Demon version increases water damage equal to 50% of your base magic attack
Fairly useless skill, I'm really not sure how much damage this adds but I KNOW for a fact it doesn't increase melee attacks by 30-50% of the casters magic attack. Note that level 11 frostblade gives 20 chi per cast instead of 10.
Sandstorm - 28.5/30m Range. Deals 300% weapon damage + 4288.4 / 6560.0 and decreases enemy's accuracy by 50%.
Sage version increases duration of -accuracy by 50% *NEEDS VERIFICATION*
Demon version increases damage by 1200
Another bread and butter skill, high weapon damage and damage add-on, though level 11 Pyro/Gush/Stone Rain outshine it. Great for lowbie pvp, max it if you want
Emberstorm - 6m Cast Range. Charge up to 3.2 second to deal damage up to the cost of 60% of your HP to enemies in a 12m radius. Deals 4000 fire damage + 4x the HP spent.
Sage version reduces damage taken by 25%
Demon version has a 50% chance to stun for 3 seconds.
Fairly useless skill... demon may offer a use, mine is level 1
Glacial Snare - 28.5/30m Range. Deals 300% of weapon damage + 4880.1 / 6171 and has a 92% chance to slow enemy's movespeed by 80% for 6 seconds.
Sage version reduces enemy's water defense by 20% for 15 seconds
Demon version reduces channeling to 2.1 seconds.
A powerful nuke and slow. Max it if you want.
Force of Will - 28.5/30m range. Silences target for 5.0 seconds.
Sage version adds a 3m AoE to the skill
Demon version decreases cooldown by 2 seconds
A fantastic skill both PvP and PvE. Disables the target completely for 5 seconds, and only ONE genie skill breaks through it, another prevents it. Most people do not have this skill.
Blade Tempest - 28.5/30m Range. Deals 200% of weapon damage plus 3860.4 / 6200 in both physical and fire damage. Costs 2 sparks.
Sage version grants a 50% chance to only consume one spark when used
Demon version grants a 50% chance to interrupt enemy channeling when cast
Our robe-raper. Note that it does 200% + xxxx damage TWICE, added together. Once for physical and once for fire, a very good nuke. My main ulti in TW
Black Ice Dragon Strike - 28.5/30m Range. Deals 500% of weapon damage + 9648.9 / 13955. Costs 2 sparks.
Sage version gives a 50% chance to increase critical hit rate by 30% for 10 seconds, also acts ON THE DRAGON ITSELF
Demon version grants a 20% chance to consume 0 sparks
A very, very hard hitting magic ultimate (with a wicked animation) Great for territory wars and PvE requiring AoE.
Mountain's Seize - 28.5/30m Range. Deals 500% of weapon damage + 8400.4 / 12149. Has a 95% chance to stun all enemies for 6 seconds.
Sage version grants a 50% chance to only consume 1 spark
Demon version increases cast range to 35metres.
A great PvE/AoE stun for any situation you're in. Has a fairly long cast time, but well worth it.
Essential Sutra - Self-buff. Increases channeling speed of all spells to near instant for 6 seconds. Requires 2 sparks.
Allows all skills to become almost instant channeling (NOT CAST), also restores mana on use.
Fire, Water, & Earth masteries - Passive. Grants a 20% damage bonus to each element respectively.
Sage version increases damage bonus to 25%
Demon version increases critical rate by 1% each
Pretty self explanatory. Increased damage, yum.
Undine Strike - 27m Range. Reduces target's Earth, Fire, and Water defenses by 60% for 12 seconds. Cannot overwrite itself.
Soporific Whisper - 20m Range. Instantly puts target to sleep for 4 seconds, requires 20 chi.
Elemental Shell - Buff, no range listed. I'd guess 20-25m. Increases target's Metal, Fire, Water, and Earth defenses by 1000% for 4 seconds. Has a 10% chance to dispel the caster of all negative status effects.

nice start.
wanna merge the two (what I started and this one)? we could make something good out of it. Like this we're just fragmenting more some information that should be in 1 place.____________

We don't need a Psychic guide in the wizard board. b:shutup"Of course you should fight fire with fire. You should fight everything with fire."

I don't really do the whole 'guide' thing.. I prefer to criticize people for being biased, or wrong; then listening to them use something irrelevant as an excuse for the fault in question. like, my choice of being a dark mage is obviously the reason I disagree with full hp stones in gear.
right?

haha, I still think you should post screenies up in BLOODMYSTIC's thread since you suggested it.0 -
archers and venos were much better DD
lol...... we are DD but we are NOT BETTER THAN WIZARDS.
Of course archers are better, they than put points into DEX for crit!
You made this new guide and all it'll really serve is discourage people from playing it.
Newcomers to this class need to LISTEN TO ME.
Wizard is STRONG.
Wizard is RARE but LIKED.
On my server, wiz gets asked for A LOT in world chat. THE TRUTH.
I've read "you'll be disappointed at endgame" As if getting to 100 will happen in a week - not everyone can hyper and oracle for 8hrs straight like some of you have - it took me 7 months to get my veno to 98. Some of us are still playing this game THE OLD ANCIENT WAY. So just SHUT THE HELL UP(I'm talking to all you 90-100 wizards , hate me, I don't give a damn, get in line.)Nobody wants to join your little ENTOURAGE of wimping.0 -

quoting me out of context just shows you're skilled at breaking up sentences (like a 3rd grader), not proving a point. imo you're just butthurt you couldn't play off your thread as a troll.. and besides your arch buddies, nobody will be taking you serious for a very long time rofl.Youtube Channel: youtube.com/user/D2VeT/videos?flow=grid&view=0

It's not hypocrisy, it's trolling. You're quoting 2 separate wizzy's with 2 separate opinions/cultivations on things even if they're similar sometimes.(and out of context) =/ They're both good wizzy's, i've seen them both take down people much better geared than them. =] I don't know if you have a character on lost city, but i seriously doubt it. If you did you would know most of the people in adroits videos are better geared and very few of them undergear him. I don't know why you seem to hate adroit, and i've never seen you play. But both of you are turning the wizzy forum into a giant argument about stupid things. You said you told yourself to stop? Please do ^^Shhh don't troll, it's yulk bait.0

His point was that Androit trashes BLOODMYSTIC's guide on specific parts that are exactly the same as Amour's guide, but since Amour gives it to Androit from behind, Androit would never dare criticize His Holiness.0 -

Who is this Androit you keep talking about? lmao I talk to Amour off forums as well, so what makes you think I don't criticize parts of his guide? Many of the misquotes in this guide are referring to other things, bad word choice and the like. They do not argue all the exact same points.Youtube Channel: youtube.com/user/D2VeT/videos?flow=grid&view=0

And THIS Adroit is why, not withstanding your constant "this thread makes you look stupid, etc." doesn't deter me in the least.
Anyone with a brain will see the truth. Those without will call it qq, or say pve is fail, or say Adroit is god, or blah blah blah. But I am not worried about those without a brain.

Tell that to Calvin. I think he is on lost city, no?HealingBliss - Lost City wrote: »I don't know why you seem to hate adroit.
Why I hate him? Really?
He trolls a guide before it is even written, and I hate him?
Every comment he makes to anyone not on LC server is generally in the form of "If you knew anything, you would know . . . ." and "being on a pve server, you probably don't realize . . . ."
He CONSTANTLY doesn't read a post carefully, then claims you say you like apples and that apples are for losers. Meanwhile, you said you hated apples.
And I don't hate anyone, actually. I LOVE to reveal self-centered, arrogant pricks for being just that, however.HealingBliss - Lost City wrote: »But both of you are turning the wizzy forum into a giant argument about stupid things. You said you told yourself to stop? Please do ^^
As for stopping, he had the first word in this back and forth. In fairness, you should want me to have the last and tell him to stop.
But somehow I don't see anything in your post directed at him . . . .
Oh, thats right, because lost city means never having to say your sorry . . . .
More people play off lost city than on it, by the way, so noone here has to listen to lost city people, no matter how pro you've all convinced yourselves you are."And as for bragging, I don't need to brag.
