So about 6 weeks ago I started playing a barb, I've only been in PWI for about 2 months, and I have reached level 75 without hypering, FC'ing, or using oracles, just purely questing (have completed every quest up to level 75) and I have run into a little issue.

Why is it that I am squadding with people who are my level, and sometimes higher, who have played for over a year, and somehow they know nothing of what their role is in a squad, or have no clue how to play their characters? I am assuming it is indeed the issue I hear about all the time about how hypers and oracles and BH level people too fast and I agree with that as I am level 75 already, but does no one even attempt to learn how to play the game while spending millions to level?

When I tank. my squad doesn't die, but if I let any other barb who's on some I have more hp or I am a higher level rant tank while I dd, it about 95% of the time ends very very poorly. All I'm asking is that people learn how to play their characters better than a 2 month old noob can. You're embarrassing yourselves when you have been playing 15 times longer than me, and still can't handle your role in a squad as well as I can.

Welcome to PWI. I will agree that most players suck, but I shall maliciously use maths at you:

There are six players in a squad. Even if they are all equally competent, sometimes they have a bad day.

What are the chances that none of them are less competent than you are that day?

You don't notice the teammates that are as good as you (or the ones that are better, unless they are a lot better) - you only notice the one that messes up.

I'll give you the on/off days. Sometimes I will lose aggro and someone takes a hit, but generally speaking, my squads don't die, unless someone runs off to freelance like some mighty suicidal hero.

As for the people who are better or as good as me, they are in my friends list, and my BH runs are now seemingly purely for my friends, as they need a good tank and I need people who know wtf they are doing. ^_^

It's not really that hard to learn how to play a class if you quest with it constantly. On my cleric I did all my quests too and I learned my weaknesses against certain things in pve and what I could do to counter them. A lot of people I'm running into lately don't seem to care about any of that stuff. >.< I've only been playing almost a year, but I feel I know my class completely and fully. :)

the people you squad with are plain stupid. PvE takes zero to no brain power whatsoever.

It's only once you begin to do FCs that you will realize it takes a bit more concentration to not let the whole squad wipe, but within a week you'll be going through the motions.

Tbh, you're lucky. You're a barb, and barbs are rare and wanted.

When it comes to FC: you, the clerics, and the bms can be picky about their squads, because all 3 of you are hard to find and a must. I'd of added sins to that list, except there's so many it's funny.

Point is, when you start FCs (which could be now if you wanted), you'll get the choose the cream of the squading crop.

Gratz on falling in love with the barb class. Not many do, but you seem to know what you're doing, and you'll be loved by squad mates for a long time for that b:laugh

No its not hard to learn a class at all if you quest with it :)
but sadly the main thing i think the poster was pointing out is the simple lack of even the most basic attempt to learn a class. The barb isnt alone at all, There are many times in a random squad that i see this sort of foolishness ALOT of players now a days dont even take time to learn or lvl up all their skills. No its not just him , its the player base they just dont seem to try, Now on the flip side you find those who do learn the nuances and strategies they need for their class.
Just now not as many do . its sad :(

leveling rate: your level compared to the time u played

high leveling rate + fail = hyper baby
slow leveling rate + good = ok
high leveling rate + good = smart
slow leveling rate + fail = yulk

i consider lvl75 in 1y, slow leveling rate now
so if they fail... gz, u found yulk. now burn it with fiiiireee.

ur problem is not hypers; 75 in a year is not hypers/bh/oracles/w/e
ur problem is stupid ppl. sorry, no fix for that, neither in pwi nor in RL

Thanos is right, 1-70 definitely isn't impossible.

and how would you know they've played for that long? Even the stupidest player can level to 1-70 in a 2month time span, let alone years as you said.

Stupid is stupid. Just ignore it when you can, make friends with the smart ones, and enjoy the game.

btw- idk if you like PvP, but an abundance of stupid people= fun pvp.

The problem with slow leveling + fail is that they can't do quests on their own, so they rely on other people to squad with them.

So they use other people as a crutch to leech off of them.

Me, I just play tons of characters... I can keep a sin alive who's tanking BH59 on my cleric, I can tank BH51 on my BM, I can tank BH59 (except Ofo) on my Archer, my veno is tabled, my sin is tabled, but I can solo quests...

i take the time to learn my skills and experiment with them, instead of going in guns blazing. Except on my archer. I only use like 3 skills on my Archer. I use Spirit Points for making Genies on that one.
    101 Sage Sin*/Archer
    100 Demon BM*/Barb
    96 Demon Cleric/Sage Seeker
    95 Demon Wiz/
    94 Sage Veno
    85 Psy/80 Mystic
And a handful of other alts, all 79 and under.

I hear this alot, what does killing 20 of a random mob then flying back and forth on the map to talk to npc's with auto path teach you about your class that BH/Frost doesn't? I've done lots of quests but i still do bh and frost, i don't see why it's looked down on tbh.

Frost at low levels is pretty good for teaching you your mechanics - it's just that people expect you to have already learnt them by that point.

Just doing BHs doesn't, because people are over-level for them, and doing stupid stuff works just fine.

Quests pit you up against various types of monsters, with an intelligent progression of abilities and behaviours, allowing you to learn in a relatively safe environment how to use your tools.

Also, people who just do quests rather than hyper-frost have, frankly, put in more hours of practice. They've encountered more edge cases, have a better feel for exactly how much they can do in various circumstances and just generally have more experience with their class.

    For starters.

wait what? i did all my quests till 80 and the only "hard" mob is the celestial plumfish and maybe the flying thingies above sanctuary (u have to do that for oht anyway).

the rest is F1,F2,F1 maybe F3,F1,F2 if it's an incr mag.

if doing stupid stuff for bh works how do we get fail bh squads?

you can add numbers for years but that doesnt make u a pro mathematician

from my point of view, i want u to be efficient in my squad; and u cant learn squad mechanics by solo-ing mobs. also, mobs in instances are usually a bit different than open map mobs

Soloing, as stated above, teaches you the basics of your class, sitting at an oracle spot all day does nothing but make you a high level noob who knows how to keep yourself alive at a low level mob. And yes people tell me their PWI age, I once had a cleric in HER bh29 refusing to IH me because it's more effective to use IH+the starter channel heal than to spam IH. And when I said that's not very intelligent I was told let the clerics heal and the tanks tank. Not only are they old players, but they are ignorant old players.

I know my role, I am quite good at it, and I love being the pinnacle of my squad alongside my clerics. I just wish other players knew their roles in the squad so that others aren't required to pick up their slack.

As for Psychic's who don't know how to squad, they either die from a spam with black voodoo or they use that soul **** on me that drains my mana...I have 1k mana...and taking hits from multiple mobs that are spam draining my mana with it and they get all upset when they catch aggro...of course you caught aggro...I'm not wasting my mana potions on you because you don't know how to play your character.

It almost comes across OP that you're saying everyone else sucks. Sometimes you catch people at off days :/

That being said, at your level you will find a lot of people still learning due to power leveling in bh. I'm doing bh 51/59 on my veno and I swear I didn't know there were so many barbs who refused to go tiger form. I've had to come back on my bm a few times to tank because a barb/cleric rage quit and blamed the others in squad. b:surrender People make mistakes, they're not supposed to rage when it happens. You should learn from it and get better Hopefully.

    ~edit~
also! Don't know if this was mentioned but for DDs taking aggro Alpha male works wonders, no matter the class of the tank, especially if your other Aggro control skills are in cooldown. I used it when tanking until I got a little aps. Now it just sits on my genie just incase.

It just seems to me that the OP wanted to spread the word on how great he is that he got to 75(omfg!) without any sort of lvling help, and can apparently tank better than any idiot he finds.

I did find that the earlier versions of Perfect World [6 classes not 8] (Malaysian here) taught how to *really* play. You had to AOE Zhen party for hours and you had to get your timing right with slam or you had to ride your mount to do the luring so precisely or you had to grind solo or in a party. Of course the higher you got the worser it was.

Quite a few of us from MY also laughed at stories of players on other servers who couldn't do success mode / trophy mode with all the best gear got instantly, I mean we *really* did laugh very hard when a full stquad couldn't get to the end of FB89 Heaven with full +10 gear (Yeah I know no private server talk but its funny)

You also had to learn Godless Valley (Reborn Order Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta here) in Malaysia and of course if you screwed up, you screwed up big time. Sure we had the Bounty Hunter for a while in Malaysia but they got rid of it. People in PWI laugh when I say they had no BH in MY and I'm like well sure we had world quest and crazy stones and the Beehive (you call it the cube here) but getting to level 100 in MY was a darn achievement. Getting your first fairy / devil was also an achievement.

Getting to 100 these days though its like pissing in the ocean. You know it won't make a difference and its just "Gratz moving right along..."

In MY I will tell ya. You had to stand on your own two feet, people went AFK in AOE zhenning parties, it was what you knew and how you did things. In here its "Look Im level 100 in 2 months, Wee"

Never the less you were learning about agro and when the mobs lost interest in you. The amount of agro sometimes I've taken and people just go "How the hell did you do that" and I'm like "4 years PW man." then its like "Oh."

Some of the most awesome players I met playing PW MY on Oracle (before it was absolved and turned into ironically 'Utopia') but some of the players in PWI, man some nights I laugh so hard. They crack me up.

Call it what you will: lack of experience, lack of reading guides, lack of reading the wiki, lack of concept of what you're class actually does. This lot never cease to amaze sometimes.
Time won't wake/make you wiser, but it will definitely wound you.
