A Simple Guide To Teamplay

I started this game rather recently. It is a really beautiful game and I'm looking forward to play it for long. But i was rather disappointed at how little the peeps in random group messes up and has no clue to what their role is. So i would like to share a lil of my MMO experience that i have cultivated over the years.
This guide isnt about gears or spells or any item related facts. This is simply about personal skills and understanding the job at hand. Pro peeps kindly add if i miss something for the newbs to understand better. Dont flame or critisize...instead correct me if i am wrong. That said let us begin the enlightenment begin.
Many players tend to mess up their roles in a squad a lot. Happens with all the game i have seen. This game is no different.
before start i would like to suggest one important thing : ALWAYS and ALWAYS lvl apothecary skill. The items u can get from there is life saver and costs nothing.
TANK : the tank or the meatshield is rather a boring job but requires to be daring. Bbut contradictory to many peeps belief that it doesnt take brain i would say otherwise. Tanking is a skill. It requires understanding of mobs. Most peeps jst think themselves to be Chuck Norris and rambo in between mobs. That is wrong and isnt tanking. Its jst making the life of squadmates hell. When a tank attract multiple mobs it makes Clerics job harder for if the cleric heals u he'll attract heavy aggro from the mobs that u wont be attacking. Kindly avoid the temptation of doing so.
Gameplay :As a Tank always wait for the lure. Wait for the lurer to get the mob out of the crowd. Then intercept the mob when lurer is backing away. While tanking NEVER BACK DOWN. that simply ll wipe the squad. always be ready to pop a hp regain potion at a moments delay. Finally if u need to die to save anyone, then get might and go down in the glory of battlefield. Thats what a tank is sposed to do. U can always get rezzed, but if rezzer dies all hope is lost. Protect the squadmates with ur life should be ur motto.
Bossing : Very important job. Always start by buffing to the max. Ask Clerics for some restoration spells aka heal over time spells. pop up and Hp regain pill from apoth skill..it makes clerics job easier and ur life safer. always keep high hp regain potions. And jst bash into the boss and hit him like there is no tommorow. If needed die there and wait for rezz. No Backing Down. No Running.
CLERICS : If the squad is a body , u r the heart. But as it is in real life, the body can defend anything as long as heart is functioning, a simple ***** from a pin can end ur life. U r fragile. so stay safe and stay far. Always let others defend u. No need to be Hero. Clerics arenot hero , they are hero maker.
Gameplay : ALWAYS AND ALWAYS FOCUS ON THE TANK. As long he is alive, u r alive. Stay far from the tank at max possible safe range. U dont want any unnecesasry attraction, it may turn fatal. Never heal urself , instead use genie skill and pop up hp potions. If u heal urself u r missing a heal on the tank which may make things ugly. Dont do that.
Bossing : While bossing start with some restoration spells on the tank. STAND AT MAX RANGE and heal from there. U dont want to get into the AoE. If the tank falls dont waste time and immediately rezz him. But always keep in mind ur saftey first. Every single person is to die for u but u need to be alive at all costs. Always rezz fellow clerics first in case they fall. they r priority as they can rezz others and u. Feel free to run away from the scene if things get ugly. Then come back andrezz everyone. Always and Always keep ressurection scrolls.
ASSASINS : This is one class where many ppls dont understand their role at all. An assasin doesnt fight , they assasinate. Play sinful. Dont be a hero. Why hit in the face when u can slit the throat. A sin who ramboes in is a failure sin. The role of a sin is to escort, scout and get the kill at the right time ( ill explain the right time).
Gameplay : A sin needs to be skillful. Always try to stay invisible while moving. Ur main target should be to escort the team and jump in for the swift kill when the time is right. When the time is right : when u knw u the health of the mob is low enough that u can kill it fast enough that it cant retailiate. U r squishy so NEVER TANK , but u r bound to generate huge aggro due very very high damage dealing capablities. So dont start hitting alongside the tank. Let the tank and others get the hp of the mob to a suitable hp, jump in and get the kill fast. Always keep invisible and dont attract attention. Always be on the look for trouble. Get working on any backdooring/ stray mob that come near ur squad asap.
Bossing : While bossing a sin need to keep many things in mind. At the starting phase of the boss never double click for regular attack. It generates lots of aggro for they are very fast and crit a lot. Instead stand behind the tank and use ranged spells only. Put in DoT and give in a stun whenever possible and leave it that way. DOnt make others life hard by getting the bosses attention. Never expect heal. U r lucky if u get heals but simply put u shouldnt. Heals is for the tank only. Use potion, Hp regeneration pills etc. when the boss is quite low on hp that u can finish it fast ..... buff to the max and show that those daggers arnt for show. Take him out for as fast as u can for now is ur time. The cleric and the Tank should be weary by now as well. Thats the time for u to shine.
SECONDAY DAMAGE-DEALER/TANK : Aka Blademasters. As a blade master u r not a tank. U r secondary damage dealer. Why? Because u rnt squishy. So even if for a moment the boss wants to give u love , u can take it. Then what is ur role when there is tank and no boss? U r the vanguard for the priest.
Gameplay : Stay at back. Focus on keeping the rear safe so that a stray mob or a walker dont back door the squishes. Ur main priority is to ensure there is no casualty. Dont expect heals either. Be ready to pop on some pills and pots. Make sure u hold of the enemy till u get quick backup.
Bossing : This is ur time for the front seat. Get buffed and pop a regeneration pill and start dishing ot whatever u got to the tank. Keep the stuns coming on the boss but also be on guard to back down at any given moment. Dont expect heals and hence aggo controll is of the essence. Try to damage controll. If u take occasional hits back stop immediately and let tank get the aggro back on him again. Always be ready for bad situations which starts if the tank falls. If it happens immidiately get the aggro towards u and try to but the cleric enough time for rezz. If u need to die then do so and join KIA. Keep rezz scrolls handy.
im sorry im getting tired and distracted atm(thanks to the roommates). ill add on the rest later again. pending..pending..pending..

Tank : 5aps or you're not gonna be tanking.
DDs : 5aps or gtfo
Cleric : 5aps or gtfo.0 -
In a Perfect World (2 years ago) this holds true. Now even the traditional role of barb + cleric is thrown away in the face of 5 APS Blood Paint and the like. Even in lower level groups the stigma is already there-both on the server I main on and whenever I visit HT every once in a while.
Nowadays its the 5 APS with the most damage output that tanks and everyone else is pretty much his security blanket. Unless you made a group of tight knit friends who will be willing to run the end game instance in the "traditional" way and who plan on even doing Delta for fun not just for BH/culti, these roles will never carry on into later generation of players. All that people will have to fall back on is old dusty guides and then wonder why those classes don't exist anymore. Then, they run off and make those classes to learn them and to have them for their deltas only to trash them later and/or understand why its such a pain to be barb/cleric or the like.
I'm very glad that even a new player to the game has this much insight and I'm a bit hopeful. Horray for apoth *hides in her herb patches in hell*Tamias-

I feel left out b:bye
According to what you wrote there venomancers have no use in squads at all.
Lurers, amplify damage, purge, sending sparks to squad members, tank+healer in one with pet.
Veno's don't fall under the category healer, tank or DD. It has a bit off all but doesn't belong in any group.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Thanks Silvychar for the awesome sig

I agree with pretty much everything you said, and I totally understand why you said it... This game seems to be full of "noobs" (or just stupid people that have been playing for ages but still cant figure it out) that have no idea how to party-play.
Unfortunately, the people you are aiming this post at are not the type to bother reading a guide... that is why they suck in the first place... b:chuckle
My personal pet peeves are idiot DD's who want to prove the size of their e-peen by deliberately stealing agro from the tank.
By the way, thanks to **** Dev's and poorly implemented game mechanics, if you're a Psychic its practically impossible for a tank to hold agro from you if you are just dumping damage non-stop (at least for pre-90, i can't speak for post-90).
So relax once in a while, give it a break and let tank retain agro and let whole party breathe easier! (Or just pull agro, Die, and stay dead til boss is dead, then get rezzed if your lucky)0 -
BEST. GUIDE. EVER
Someone should STICKY this!0 -
Weird terminology used in this 'guide,' as well as the broken English, make it hard to follow. I will say this though:
Barbs: Gathering mobs is your job as well as holding aggro. What other classes don't understand is that you hold great aggro against one monster on your skills alone. To hold multiple aggro, you need other team mate's buffs, like bramble (veno) and stunning mobs in place (bm).
Last I checked, not even blood paint can replace a cleric completely. If anyone says otherwise, then they don't need a squad for a single thing. Ever. Let them tank everything on their own.
Sins kill, yes, and swiftly. However, most players are 'hot doggers' and want to do insane damage against mobs, steal aggro and except to live, even if the mob can one shot them, with or without heals or guardian charms. Then they place the blame on another when they should be pointing the finger at themselves.
Why not speak about other classes? What about venos? That has to be the class that seems to know the least on what to do. Why? With the release of genies, most people use earthflame to lure mobs. Very few venos go out and practice luring and catching on their own. Most venos do not purge or amplify damage on bosses, completely not understanding that it just makes the fight go better. I have heard venos say 'I go fox- form because I run faster.' At level 64. Obviously not a demon veno. Most don't understand that fox form offers more phyiscal defence.
Most BMs don't understand that their main role is to stun. I don't care if you have 5 APs- do your job: stun and amplify damage, whether its glacial spike or heaven's flame. By the way, BMs tank fine. Usually they are preferred due to magic/ physical self buff. Add some decent HP and they are good to go. I've seen 3.8k HP'd BM tank Wraithgate just fine. It just takes a cleric that knows what he or she is doing. Hell, I've seen a 6k HP'd BM tank the final boss in TT3-3 with not a single charm tick and only one cleric (this was before any sins were high enough level, so you can rule out blood paint helping to heal).
Let's not forget the squads that run well ahead of a cleric and die because he or she couldn't keep up before the squad aggro'd everything along the way. You all know who you are.
NOTE: Most horrible squad incidents can be avoided if people actually watched their damage. Most clerics cannot save you if you pull aggro because they don't know their class themselves. Aggro- hopping is a cleric's worst nightmare because no heals are able to be built up for the most part.I level the old- fashioned way.

+ all extra classes with the same Guidelines you would be 101% correct on the classes and their roles.
However, this is the original programming, all this is now: NO LONGER THE CASE.
There are no more Barb tank....unless on a WB or 2, ow wait, usually 5 APS takes the aggro, because the barb's skills where not calculated 2 keep that much APS and threat under control.
Same counts for lower aps btw.
Then, the introduction of higher Defense gears (Nirvana) and the lately introduced Rank gears.
This has changed the face of all classes roles and usefullness in this game.
on a sidenote, current problem is that the offense capabilities (eg Damage totals and speed) hugely outclass the current defensive capabilities, Unless you get the Stones (Savant, Prime, Jades) and the High end refinements (+8 or higher).
So in conclusion;
Old system (Old Pwi); you are spot on, and thats the way it has been.
New System; (Current); The lines between classes have faded, cash determines the classes role and succes (also in old days, but now by about 1000% more then back then).
I could go explain this in quite alot of points, but i hate writing walls of text, want more details, just private mail me here ^_^b:victory Once you discover life is meaningless, you will see my point of view!! b:victory

The roles never changed. That's just people making up excuses to not learn something. The only thing that's really valid is the barb unable to keep aggro from 5 APs, but even I've seen that it's possible. Again, it takes a veno that knows its role: bramble and constant spark passing.I level the old- fashioned way.

Bullcrap. 2.86 is enough to keep aggro 90% of the time. Barb gets it back for half a sec the instant he flesh reams, only to lose it instantly after getting hit once or twice. 3.3 and above and the barb can hold down the flesh ream key but the boss wont even look his way. This being my own conclusion having played a 101 barb and a 100 clawcher.
I'd LOVE to meet a barb that keeps aggro from a 3.3 DDer (unless he's fisting in human form or glitched claws in tiger form haha), let alone a 5aps like you claim.b:dirty0 -
DeLetar - Sanctuary wrote: »The only thing that's really valid is the barb unable to keep aggro from 5 APs
Sure it is. The barb has 4.0 APS with +12 TT100 while the rest of the squad uses unrefined fists.0 -
this is how i would program a bot to run in instances.
however i would expect more from a human; like a cleric healing others if the tank can take a hit or debuff/DD (and lets dont forget purify).
but yeah, it's a nice simple guide that covers the general guidelines that should be followed0
