noob question
Just started playing cleric and after trying all the classes was wondering why clerics are the "most expensive" class? I know barbs are expensive due to repair costs but what do clerics need more money for? pots? TY from a noob cleric

Whoever said they are the most expensive were lying off their rocker. Any "pulling" / "tanking" (i.e. barb / bm -- sometimes other classes on the tanking part) class is the most expensive to maintain due to repairs.
Clerics used to be expensive before level 75 mp pots got so cheap.
When starting out as a cleric, if it's your first PWI character, and you're under, say, 25.. it might be tough to keep up with the MP usage, so buying pots from the NPCs might wind up somewhat costly, relative to your very small income, but that's easily overcome by resting between a certain number of kills or using HP regen apoth so you can focus more on DD and not so much healing yourself.0 -

Or by merching simple things, like teles or cheap apo. b:pleasedProving that not only archers do math since 2009. b:victory

Hah, the only time my cleric is expensive is if a BM or Barb slips up in FC, then my repair bill will jump about 20k. Other than that, 30k coin will buy you 50 Lvl75 MP food, which is uber cheap compared to the HP stuff melee characters need.
All classes, regardless, should learn Apoth to lessen the cost of their pots.DREAMWEAVER

Cleric is now the cheapest class.
We don't have to save up 400mil for 5aps, 100mil for a Herc, or 100k+ repair fee after each FCC runs like Barbs.
We only have to buy MP food and that's a lot cheaper than HP food. 600 coins each for 5000 MP. At higher lvls, we get better MP recovery so we rarely need MP food. I only use it if I have to BB / RB. For 'normal' healing, my MP recovers too fast, I almost never need MP food, lol.
The only expensive Cleric things are the Sage/Demon skills. Revive and IH are 18-20mil each (still cheaper than 5aps and Herc), or around 5mil each if you get lucky and win it from a random skillbook (like me, I got Revive that way). I only have Sage Revive, Sage IH and Sage Wellspring, did not bother to get other skills because I'm fullsupport and don't attack, and I use other heal skills rarely.
Oh and my Cleric is my richest char because I am needed in all squads. (: One yell and I get 784354545432 squad invites / whispers. XD0 -

what level are you? at 100, I went through a plat mp charm in less than a day. Granted, an mp charm isn't always necessary but I still go through a ton of mp food.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

If your cleric is lvl 100 now, you're playing one of the cheaper classes. But cleric used to be one of the more expensive classes, this was largely due to using a lot of mp. Also in lower lvl's clerics have more of a problem with an expectation to get more skills. When expected to lvl 4 buffs, your heals, plume shot, great cyclone, revive, purify... it gets expensive. With most classes there are only a couple skills you're truly expected to have maxed.0

My Cleric is 101, pure mag and I never use charms. When I heal, that isn't considered as battle (I never attack), so my MP regen is normal. I have like 20 extra MP regen on gear, it helps a lot. I only need MP food for BB/RB and spamhealing. MP regen powders help too... I make them when I'm in the mood to farm herbs. xD I don't spend much money on MP food, so yeah, I consider my Cleric cheap.0 -
Ah... I usually attack and heal so maybe that's why I go through it so fast. lol[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I think it also might be expensive since you are expected to max a lot of skills >_>0

also, consider the following scenario:
a fb boss fight, doesnt last too long but u spam attacks/IH.
you spend ~8k mana, u have 10k mana pool
charmed: u spend 2.5k, tick, 2.5k, tick, 2.5k, tick, 0.5 end of fight
uncharmed: u spend 8k, end of fight
during the way back (no mobs to fight, just walking) u both restore full mp.
so u spend 7.5k mana from the charm while the uncharmed cleric didnt spend anything0 -
Clerics is one of the richest classes nowdays. May be tough at the begining but the more you level, the easier it will become. After getting level 90 you could expect to see your income starting to increase if you aoe grind, solo. DQ's have a market now, and the mp food that you can start using at level 75 is uber cheap.0

They are probably referring to the skills that are expensive. Clerics have a lot of skills and are expected to max a lot of them. Can go up to 20mill. But than look at sins...to max the good skills its like 27mill x.x
Than there is MP food, which can get expensive.0 -
The OP was probably referring to the Cleric guide stickied at the top of this forum, for anyone wondering.3. Why shouldn't I play a Cleric?

I've only ever used one MP charm and stopped after that because I didn't like how much was used. Even using the 5k hp pots, I still go through A LOT. Sage/Demon IH is a mana killer.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

yea being a cleric can be costly when it comes to mp especially when your supposed tank is pretty squishy but here's a few tips to save mp depending upon the situation.
1. The number one thing that can save you mp is don't constantly spam ironhearts if the person your healing isn't taking that much damage. This is the most helpful tip that can save you alot of mp but its funny I still see clerics do it today. Your hp bar is meant to move so if you see it moving don't panic, just make a judgment call dependign upon how fast it goes down that's how many irons they need, I mean its called a heal over time lols.
2. In the earlier stages of being a cleric you first see BB and your like "wow that's a lot of mana" but nowadays BB really starts looking good, especially if your main heal is sage/demon ironheart. So dont worry what people say, go whip out that BB for one mob and when they're like what are you doing just be like i'm saving mp noob lols.
3. This tip here I can't stress how much I love it and how many mp pots its saved me. I'm a Sage cleric and this is one of the macros I use to heal people but demons can do it as well. My macro consists of Sage spirits gift which regens your mp, sage ironheart and sage vanguard or magic shell depending on the situation. so it looks like this in the macro bar. Walk behind-Spirits Gift-Ironheart- Spirits Gift-VG or MS. Using this macro you can heal a target and you'll " NEVER" run out of mp. Demons can do it as well and they save more mp too, just swap sage spirit with demon CGS and VG or MS with demon Spirits Gift.
Hopefully one of these tips help someone thxs for reading b:bye0 -

nah u cant do this as demon cleric, the demon CGS granted 900 mana to target, it is not like sage SG, that granted 900 mana to the caster only.
I dont know wether this is a bug or not.0 -
Clerics used too be a very costly class too play.
but that was before you got 5k mp pots for 3 tokens. also before -int gears / high aps players made boss fights a matter of seconds lol
back then all you could do if you didnt wanna go threw charm over charm was making ur reg orbs with ur apo skills and stacking up like crazy on sesame (3k mp pots) back in the days where jolly jones events actually been worth it.
besides that a lower lvl cleric has a hell lot of skills you need too lvl up at once.
once your skills are leveld and you are lvl 75+ and can use herb yuanxiao ur almoust off as good as a veno that already has its herc0 -
nothing to add i guess , just caus plp start playing a cleric for the first time they make a judgment like woho this is expensive so much to buy and to lvl, always easier later on b:chuckle[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
