When coming onto this website, suddenly my CPU usage has been spiking. 1 tab (even with nothing else open) is using 20%. If i have several tabs open, it nearly takes all my CPU usage so cant even run the game (effectively) at the same time as having these forums open. I've checked other websites and none of them are doing it so its not my browser or computer or something local to me. This applies not just to PWI, but forums on HoTK or FW as well, basically this companies forums.

Anyone else have this problem, or any website administrator know whats going on?

i don't know what's going on, but if you're using firefox then i recommend the NoScript add-on. you need to allow scripts from perfectworld.com in order to log in to these forums, but you can grant that temporarily, and as soon as you've logged in you can revoke that permission; no more active content nor scripting on this website. i never allow scripts (nor flash, nor java) to run on any website unless i know for a fact that i want whatever it's supposed to give me.

Make sure that you are using the latest version of Firefox or Opera with the latest Flash plugin installed for less issues with your hardware.

Adding more system RAM can help overall.

If your CPU is older than 3-4 years old, some flash stuff can run the CPU high.

Run multiple scans with multiple programs for malware, spyware, and viruses, because something could be piggy backing on your web browser.

Malwarebytes is a good program to scan for malware:

    http://www.malwarebytes.org/

This program is not recommended or endorsed by PWE, it is a personal recommendation I have used.
Do you need help learning about patching the game, installing it, changing antivirus/firewall settings, changing network settings, learn how to use a computer, keeping your PC maintained and more?

You just brought up a point, but its the opposite of what you suggest. This CPU thing has been happening today. And just this morning the flash player updated itself to the current version. My Opera is up to date also. Just checked. So with whatever older flash player version was installed, all was fine, but the most current version must be what is **** it up. However i dont see how its possible to fix this as... its the most up to date version.

(I also always have my computer scanned & even a large amount of HOSTS file blocking which really keeps it clean, thats not the issue).

Uninstall the current flash version and install and older one, to see if that helps.

it is likely the javascript they have added to give the snowflake effect up behind the main banner - it is creating and destroying hundreds of divs dynamically in the background (if you use chrome, inspect element on the main menu bar. just below it in the code you will see a div called snow expand this div and you will see hundreds of dynamic divs scrolling past)

why they didnt use flash or even a transparent gif I don't know. on a high activity forum such as this one you want to keep dynamic bells and whistles to a minimum.

A+ for the thought (it is coming up to christmas after all)
    B- for the execution

When do they do anything that makes sense?

    Either way just add

to addblock plus or some other adblocker and it goes away

We can confirm this is an issue here in Tech Support on our state of the art, high tech, super XP machines (sarcasm in case you missed it). On ours, the CPU jumps to 20-40% and keeps climbing if we open more tabs on the forum pages. This with us using Opera and Firefox.

So on older machines, I'm guessing this could be more of an issue.

We are researching it, and thank you all for the info!

I'd like to add that in Chrome using the Jones' Blessing page tazes my machine for like 30 seconds. Total freeze, then it goes back to normal.

You need to hire better people to code the website...

I think you know as well as I do (and a lot of other people here) they royally suck at it
