Why do MMOs die?

Found this interesting article in my e-mail today. Thought you guys saying the game is dead might be interested.
Take the time to look for your answer before you post like an idiot.

There are two kinds of people in this world...
There are those who panic,
And then there is us.

I lol'd. I kinda knew they'd have HGL in mind. That was a huge wreck and I feel sad for their publisher in the Bay Area that had to go down the tubes cuz of stupid decisions by one person -- who did such a great job before with a series so similar.

Here's a quote that hit home, especially hearing those complain about how much insane profit that's being made via pack sales:
Then you need programmers to fix any glitches and other problems crop up. Those programmers, guess what? They sure as hell will not be fixing all your **** pro bono. I find it amazing that those free-to-play MMOs make money at all. Why pay for the cow when you can get the sex for free?

Not that I have much faith in their ability to fix bugs, but obviously they've quit on fixing bugs and moved their development to "creation" of other things, whether it be future PWI content or FW and whatnot.

My reply here probably belongs in off-topic instead of general forum, but: Hellgate: London did not die, it ran into contractual difficulties, resulting in HanbitSoft taking control of the revenue core stream, from its developers. You can still play the game, you just need to use HanbitSoft's servers.

Hellgate had way too much advanced technology in it, for its release schedule (pretty much the opposite of perfect world). For example: The idtech5 engine has some analogous innovations (high frame rate large world rendering stuff that was only in the 2.0 beta for hellgate, and not in the released version) and idtech5 is not going to be ready for something like another year, while hellgate tanked several years ago.

Meanwhile, perfect world's developers have been cranking hard, and we are seeing bugs, but to my knowledge perfect world does not have a heavily leveraged loan structure, like that which lead up to hellgate's "shutdown" issues.

Only p2p games truly die. They can only get a set amount of money per month. Unlike f2p where anyone can pay anytime and have the incentive to do so.
    /quit.
