In general it its possible to purchase all TT items from the mystery merchant in 1k streams.
This takes me to the question if there is a point where farming TT mats or buying from cat shops is relatively more expensive compared to the trade in mysterious chips. So what will be the cheapest way to get hold on all the required mats to craft a lvl 99 gold magic sword? I heared a lot of the higher lvl TT runs fail and drop rates suck. So whats the most economical way to get the required mats

It depends on how much time you're willing to spend farming the mats. If you have a lot of time to devote towards farming, then obviously it's cheaper to farm. If you don't have a lot of time, then chip the mats or look for a shop selling them cheap. Assuming you don't have an abundance of chips from bh100, you will have to factor in the cost of chips as well as the cost to make the weapon (Each TT item at mysterious merchant will have an associated manufacturing cost).

As for 99 magic sword gold mat, it's cheap enough to just chip and make from 1k streams merchant assuming chip cost is free. If you need to buy chips, then just buy the 99 gold mat from other players.

you can only trade chips for gold mats... but you'll still need green mats to make stuff. it is a lot more time efficient to just buy the green mats.
